"Metamorphosis"

If I'm going to start this year off right, I'm going to start it with the Eighth Doctor! And butterflies. ^__^ Lots of butterflies.

Butterflies are a thing with Eight. He has a butterfly room in his TARDIS, and frequent butterfly symbolism and recurring themes throughout his storied travels. I've painted him with butterflies a few times in my art before, but always wanted to do a portrait that focused directly on "The Doctor's butterflies." And so, here he is, surrounded by butterflies, gently holding a chrysalis as a newly-emerged butterfly unfurls its wings on his fingers.

Dedicated to Carolyn for drop-kicking my muse into its past timeline with her own beautiful Eighth Doctor artwork! <3 I thought I might be rusty drawing Paul McGann after a few years, but it all came back to me.

My style has changed a bit since 2018, but he was meant to round off my pencil sketchpage series with FFXV's Ignis from back when, so here we go! A complete set together now with older Iggy. :D

So this started out as a portrait sketch of FFXIV Dawntrail's very own Koana (bottom image--my first attempt at him!) and I was going back and rewatching cutscenes for refs and. MY. HEART. It was so full, and my muse went "Why stop at one Koana when you could have ALL THE KOANAS??!" and so the whole pencil sketchpage was born.

I mean, c'mon--a green bespectacled catboy with flashy guns and a heart of gold? I never stood a chance! :D

I've made so many good friends and memories because of you. You guys…are the best! :D
