A frequent question I get asked is, “how do you know when a piece is finished?“ For me it’s a feeling of satisfaction that everything is addressed and balanced. The more experienced I become, the more confident I am knowing when to stop working on a piece. Some of the best artistic advice I ever received is- 80% is good enough. What this means to me is that the viewer doesn’t know what your final vision is supposed to look like, so why agonize over perceived perfection? I’ve shared this tidbit with artist friends who breathe a sigh of relief after contemplating this sage wisdom.
