(Y/N) sat at her vanity, staring into the mirror. The sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow on her deep brown skin. Her reflection, however, only brought back her insecurities. Her hands brushed over the fabric of her dressβa rich plum color that complemented her complexion but clung to her curves in a way that made her hesitant.
She sighed, pulling at the fabric near her waist. βWhy do I even bother?β she muttered to herself.
Her friendβs words echoed in her mind: βThis one is different, (Y/N). I swear theyβre not shallow like the others. Just give it a shot.β
Different. She had heard that before. It always ended the same wayβdisappointment, awkward smiles, and the unspoken rejection that cut deeper every time.
But despite her doubts, she couldnβt ignore the flicker of hope that maybe, just maybe, this time would be different.
She took a deep breath, smoothing her dress and heading out.
At the restaurant, Uzui Tengen adjusted the collar of his flamboyant outfit and glanced around the table. His wivesβMakio, Suma, and Hinatsuruβsat beside him, each radiating their unique beauty and charm.
Makio leaned back, arms crossed, her eyebrow raised. βI still donβt get why weβre doing this. Arenβt we enough for you?β
Tengen chuckled, his voice a warm rumble. βOf course you are. You three are everything to me. But we agreed a fourth would bring balance, didnβt we?β
Hinatsuru placed a calming hand on Makioβs arm. βItβs not about replacing anyone. Itβs about expanding our family.β
Suma fidgeted nervously. βBut what if they donβt like us? Or what if we donβt like them?β
Tengen smirked. βThen we move on. But from what Iβve heard, this person is worth meeting. Letβs give them a chance, alright?β
The door to the restaurant opened, and Tengenβs sharp eyes immediately locked onto (Y/N).
She stepped inside, her confidence wavering as she caught sight of the group. Tengenβs towering frame and his wivesβ stunning appearances made her feel out of place. Her heart sank. What am I doing here?
Still, she forced herself to walk forward, clutching her bag tightly.
Tengen stood, his grin broad and welcoming. βYou must be (Y/N). Itβs a pleasure to meet you.β
His wives followed suit, each greeting her warmly.
(Y/N) smiled hesitantly, her nerves making her voice quieter than usual. βItβs nice to meet you all too.β
The table was lively, Tengenβs booming laughter filling the room as they chatted. Sumaβs curiosity kept her asking questions about (Y/N)βs life, while Makio occasionally chimed in with sarcastic remarks that made everyone laugh.
Hinatsuruβs calm presence balanced the chaos, and she was the first to notice (Y/N)βs hesitation.
βYouβre awfully quiet,β she said gently. βAre you okay?β
(Y/N) shifted in her seat, her gaze dropping to the table. βIβm justβ¦ not used to this kind of attention. Youβre all soβ¦ incredible. Iβm not sure I fit in.β
Makio frowned. βNot fit in? What are you talking about?β
(Y/N) hesitated, then admitted, βIβve been on dates before, but they donβt usually go well. Peopleβ¦ they donβt see me the way I want to be seen. They see my size, and thatβs all they focus on.β
The table fell silent. Suma looked close to tears, and even Makioβs usual sharpness softened.
Tengen reached across the table, his large hand resting gently on (Y/N)βs. βIf someone canβt see beyond appearances, theyβre not worth your time. You deserve to be cherished for who you are.β
Hinatsuru nodded. βBeauty isnβt just about how you look. Itβs about how you carry yourself, how you treat others, and the warmth you bring to the people around you. And you, (Y/N), are beautiful in every way that matters.β
Suma added, βI think youβre amazing! Youβre smart, funny, and kindβand your dress is gorgeous!β
(Y/N) blinked back tears, their words slowly chipping away at the wall of self-doubt she had built. βThank you. Thatβ¦ that means a lot.β
As the evening went on, (Y/N) found herself relaxing. Tengen shared stories of his time as the Sound Hashira, each tale more extravagant than the last, while Makio playfully teased him for embellishing the details.
Suma clung to every word (Y/N) said, her enthusiasm infectious, and Hinatsuruβs thoughtful questions made (Y/N) feel truly seen.
By the time dessert arrived, (Y/N) felt like she was part of something special.
After the meal, Tengen walked (Y/N) home, his wives trailing behind.
βYou know,β Tengen began, his voice softer than usual, βwe came here hoping to meet someone who could complete our family. Someone who could handle our chaos and bring their own spark to the mix.β
He stopped, turning to face her. βAnd I think you might be that person.β
(Y/N)βs heart raced. βYou really think so?β
Makio smirked. βYou handled tonight better than most people would. That says a lot.β
Suma nodded eagerly. βAnd youβre so sweet! I already want to spend more time with you!β
Hinatsuru smiled warmly. βIf youβre willing to give us a chance, weβd like to get to know you better. No pressure, of course.β
Tears welled in (Y/N)βs eyes, but this time, they were tears of gratitude. For the first time, she felt like she was enoughβnot despite her insecurities, but because of who she was.
She smiled. βIβd like that too.β
In the weeks that followed, (Y/N) found herself becoming part of their world. Tengenβs confidence, Makioβs strength, Sumaβs kindness, and Hinatsuruβs grace helped her see herself in a new light.
And for the first time, (Y/N) truly believed she was more than enough.
