Kendall has lived a life far less difficult, the path that led her to this complex man less treacherous than his own. still they’ve found over time they’re more similar than they believed.

both of their hearts are too big for their own good. they’re smart and witty and capable of keeping up with one another on every level. she’s compassionate and lacks the judgment others may levy toward him for the things he’s done. he’s wise beyond his years, a great listening ear, a gentle man despite challenges life has presented.

she’s also generous with her time, to which he benefits, even if he knows deep down it would be better for them both to stay away.

“are you awake?” she asks, chin coming to rest on his shoulder, looking up expectantly.

her touch, soft as a butterfly coming to rest against the leather that protects him, serves as a reminder of what home is supposed to feel like.

his response is a tick of his lip, a sleepy smirk that promises they’ll discuss his day later, when he’s no longer resting against the wall to get a moment of reprieve.

it’s selfish of each of them to indulge the other’s affection yet they couldn’t be forced apart if they tried.

sometimes home isn’t a place, it’s a feeling, a person, a settling of your restless soul that allows your heavy eyes to close for long enough your body relaxes in tandem.

A fic of mine that I love is Wild Blue Yonder - Modern AU where Geralt runs a bookshop and Jaskier is a flirty mess

A fic that haunts me is Sweat and Sex and Sin: The Passiflora in Bloom - Which is a beautifully written smutty/pining/idiots to lovers AU in which Geralt meets a whore that looks an awful lot like his bard.

A fic of mine that I'm really proud of is my sort of space opera inspired by the AWAU, would you find me in the stars?

One that haunts me is definitely Full Circle by CreativWit. This Eskel is just *chef's kiss* and I've reread the fic so many times.

I'm really proud of The Subtle Knife, an Eskel centric, detective noir fic with amazing artwork done by the extremely talented Cylin.

if i'm going to rec a fic it has to be better than we'll ever be on our own by @whispered-story. it's about geralt and jaskier going camping, i've read it more times than i can even count. i always always read it when i go camping and it feels as essential as setting up my own tent at this point

I'll be your shelter by AvoidingAverage - before this fic, I had NEVER heard of the guide/sentinel thing and it stuck with me because THESE ARE MY BOYS. This was SO perfect.

Posada Remix (But with Geralt from the books and Jaskier from Netflix) by Descarada - this was just so fucking enchanting. I love it so much.

As for my own, the one I'm most proud of and one of the only ones I've ever finished is Divine Favors. This was the second fiction I'd ever published and like - DANG I did NOT expect the reception it received. I'd gotten the idea from a Tumblr post and just ran with it. It was so much fun to write, but truly there are NOT a lot of "comedy" Witcher fics out there (or there weren't, when I wrote it a billion years ago).

There are going to be days (or weeks, or months) where you sit down to write and feel... disconnected. From your voice, from your characters, from your ideas. Like the person who used to write your stories just packed up and left.

They didn't. They're just tired. Here's how to keep writing anyway:

Lower the bar (Until it's on the floor) You are not here to write something brilliant. You are here to write something. A paragraph. A sentence. A single line of dialogue. Movement matters way more than quality.

Write around the story Don't force it. If you can't write the scene, try: ⋆ A character ramble / journal entry ⋆ A conversation that won't be included in the final draft ⋆ A list of things the character would never admit out loud ⋆ A messy summary of what should happen Engage with the story from a different angle.

Borrow a voice until yours comes back No, not with AI. Read something that feels close to what you want to write, or watch a scene that captures the tone, then write immediately after. Not to copy, to reignite your instincts.

Write the emotion, not the plot. What is your character feeling in this moment? What are they afraid of? What do they want but won't say? What's being kept from them? The emotion leads, the plot catches up later.

Stop trying to "feel like a writer" first. You don't write when you feel like a writer. You feel like a writer because you write.

You can label it as “dead dove” and the person who doesn’t like unspecific dead dove doesn’t eat the thing, because it’s not worth the risk.

Yes, ideally, dead dove would come with an explanation, but if you like some dead dove topics and not others, and something is labelled dead dove and nothing else, the responsible thing to do as a reader is to close the tab and not read it.

Not all stories are for everyone. If you don’t like dead dove topics that aren’t specified, the fic that says “dead dove” and doesn’t specify further isn’t suitable for you, and that’s okay.

We have laws for food labelling, and it’s usually very specific, because allergies can kill you and people actually have to eat. No one ever actually has to read a fic.

(I mean if a writer is a dick about how no one is reading their poorly tagged fic, then sure tell them that tagging it more thoroughly might help, but a fair few people who tag their fics that way are writing them for people who like to read unspecified dead dove.)
