I personally am an asexual that has sex. When I tell people this they always look at me extremely confused. If this confuses you too or if you're a fellow sex-positive ace and someone is confused this is the best way I have found to describe to people for it to make sense in their mind.

Imagine you see a donut. You're not really hungry but you eat the donut anyways because they taste good. That is what having sex as an asexual feels for me. I'm not doing it to satisfy a need, I'm doing it because it feels good and I like it. There is no sexual attraction or urge there, just a desire to feel good.

I have used this metaphor multiple times and it always seems to be the thing to help people understand, so I hope it helps someone else too.

Hey I saw your post and I had a question - do you have any advice on coming out to people in your life? I’ve done it a couple times and it’s been positive so far but I have a tough one coming up - someone I’ve known for almost 30 years and i don’t know if she will take it well. Anything you can tell me would help. Thanks!

My best tip for coming out is to do it whenever you feel comfortable. This is your experience and nobody else gets to take that from you. If you don't know how they will react maybe just drop it somewhere casually in the conversation gently and see how that goes. If that doesn't go well maybe you don't have to come out to that person. We don't owe anybody anything especially not an explanation of our sexuality. There are still some people that don't know about my sexuality because I just don't want to deal with the headache. If you do choose to though I sincerely hope the best for you, and if they don't like it well maybe they weren't worth having around in the first place.

I'm an Asexual Heteroromantic and I kind of want to come out to my closer friends but I'm not sure? None of them really know much about the LGBTQ+ community and I don't think they know what Asexual means.. Any ideas of how I could come out to them? (Also how I could explain the difference between Asexual and Aromantic?)

Maybe next time they bring up the topic of sex just casually slide in that you’re asexual and that it just means not feeling sexual attraction to others.

Aromantic is not feeling romance towards others. The two are not the same and don’t ALWAYS go together- sometimes they do!

So you can love somebody without having sex, or you could not love them and have sex...love and sex don’t always go together!

So, I'm 98% sure I'm a heteroromantic ace. I don't really feel I have to come out to my parents, do I really have to? They are really conservative Christians, they could be acephobics too, dunno .-.

Coming out is the individuals decision and their decision alone. You don’t have to do anything you’re not comfortable with :)

i do not really understand, greysexual means "only feeling attraction under certain circumstances" right? what could those circumstances be? whats the difference between "certain circumstances" and preferences?

Since I am not grey, I’m not sure what the circumstances would be. Good question! Any Greysexuals have any answers?

Absolutely! Many asexuals experience romantic attraction! People who don't are called Aromantic. Asexuals simply don't feel sexual attraction. I hope that helped a little. ^^'
