Sacrificial Lambs
I continued living my teen life as a sacristan in our small village, watching the pastor bloodily slaughter some sheep for this week's meals. As we were eating that night, I had thought to myself why we were always referred to as God's sheep in the bible. I asked the pastor why and he hesitantly replied with "Because we follow the lord's ways." I feigned satisfaction at his answer, called it a night, and went to sleep. I awoke when I heard the rejoice of my people being carried into heaven by angels. The world went silent and the sky dimmed, I sat there. Jealous. Wondering why I and a few others were not taken into paradise. Both horror and relief filled me when the heavens opened raining blood and body parts on the Earth. I understood then why we people were called sheep.
