Matthew has never needed glasses. His vision has always been incredibly sharp, sharper than average, at 20/10 on the Snellen chart. His little brother Michael wasn’t so lucky, wasn’t so gifted with excellent eye sight, and needed them starting at a young age.

Due to the less than ideal and violent nature of their household, seeing broken glasses on Michael’s face became somewhat of a regular occurrence. With their mother on welfare and her boyfriend Jeffrey (Michael’s father) an addict and a deadbeat, getting replacement lenses wasn’t always an option. Whatever Matthew could save from his first job at the time, went toward getting replacements for his little brother.

So many replacements weren’t necessary after Jeff’s murder.
