whatâs your accepted addiction?
whatâs your accepted addiction?
itâs so funny to me how every time people try to share theirs, they hesitate, get nervous.
they second-guess. they lighten it up. they start saying, âwell, i wouldnât call it an addictionâŚâ âwell, Iâm not addicted, butâŚâ
obviously weâre not talking about real addiction.
so the question becomes: why does the word make you check yourself?
we only do that because âaddictionâ has been locked in this negative corner of our minds.
when you take that same word & drop it into everyday life, it forces you to actually look at yourself.
you start thinking.. this thing i love sm, this thing i do without even noticing⌠why am i suddenly defending it? why am i trying to label it? What is it about your interests, routines, that makes you want to clarify, distance yourself, explain?
for me, im an âAVID cinephile and a pop culture connoisseur. â
- wise words of ISSA RAE
theyâre patterns. influences. the things that shape how i think, create, & interact with the world.
so when i say accepted addictions, im really talking about the things we gravitate toward so naturally that we donât question their impact â until someone frames them in a way that makes us look twice. they connect, they overlap, they explain pieces of who I am.
the moment you recognize that the things you love so intensely, the things you pour yourself into, are actually shaping you in ways you never stopped to notice.
