(not sharing my quirk, hopefully thats alright.) Grubs will bond with nearly anything, I've witnessed one of my friends get instantly surrounded by dozens of them because the grubs liked them due to.. Hm. Purely attributed to their "vibes" as no one can figure out why, aside from grubs potentially recognizing that they are Safe to approach. they were invited to the caverns for a visit, the grubs never saw my friend before. point is- it is a good thing you did not let anyone near them before leaving, as the grub could've grown attached to anyone without noticeable sinister intent. Uprooting such connections could've become early core memories.

✄ find a place where you know no drones or anyone associated with the empire would go. abandoned bases of the empire work well if they're far away or abandoned for longer than 50 sweeps, but abandoned hives work well too.
✄ hidden hives, such as bunkers, are the best, although harder to get out of incase of emergencies.
✄ try to find a base that is hidden from the sky and public's eyes.
✄ once you find a suitable place, ensure you're alone and no devices that could give away your position are present. i assume you know how empire technology looks.
✄ ensure multiple exits. a main entrance and preferably more than two emergency exits.
✄ try to create hiding places that aren't noticeable. a hole in the wall behind furniture, hidden trapdoors, anything is better than nothing.
✄ once again, make sure you are not easily trackable.
✄ do not speak of where you reside, make up stories, lies or anything to keep people away. but don't be obvious, do not drive attention to your base.
