one of the Moments of jane eyre is when jane is conflicted about st john rivers' offer and calls for a sign from god about what she should do and then she fucking hears mr. rochester calling for her in her head and immediately makes up her mind to Go To Him after a year and says she's coming and asks where he is and a while after she reunites with him he goes "oh yeah one time a little bit ago I was so anguished that i cried out your name and I actually heard you answer back. you said you were coming and asked where i was. crazy how that happened because it's not like you could have actually heard me or anything" and then she just tells The Reader that she knows that somehow she Really Was Answering Him but then she also goes "...y'know what I don't think he can handle that information right now so i'm just gonna keep that to myself" and then it's just never fucking brought up again

That's such a sick baby picture to have. The rest of us are all like "oh this is me tripping in the backyard when I was 2" and that baby's gonna have "yeah that's me in my mom's arms as she wins a mortal Kombat tournament". Iconic.

we need more portrayals of Wonder Woman that acknowledge she's a jock from a warrior culture. i don't want her to be a shining beacon of compassion i want her to headbutt her teammates (violently!) as a sign of affection and camaraderie

no listen i want her default response to minor interpersonal conflict to be politely challenging people to a duel of honor. i want her to be a bit of a dumbass actually! or at least let hilarious cultural discrepancies ensue. I want her to be surprised and dismayed that flipping a teammate around like a ragdoll is not considered a “friendly gesture." i want even the other super strengthers to be nervous of receiving a “friendly” noogie bc even with superpowers that shit HURTS. (in Amazonian culture being too gentle with your peers is an insult that implies they are not your equal in physical prowess.) Wonder Woman: i am doing such a great job of showing my fellow superheroes i respect them! *every Justice League Hero with meta powers flinching bodily when she pats them on the back*

If you're lamenting the fact that you used to be able to shoot through a 500-page novel in like a day when you were in middle school and now you can't, it's worth bearing in mind that a big part of that is because when you were in middle school, your reading comprehension sucked. Yes, mental health and the stresses of adult life can definitely be factors, but it's also the case that reading is typically more effortful as an adult because you've learned to Ponder The Implications. The material isn't just skimming over the surface of your brain anymore, and some of the spoons you used to spend on maximising your daily page count are now spent on actually thinking about what you're reading!

oh and another thing that devastates me about Obsession is how much nikki is judged and blamed by those around her. sarah and ian repeatedly telling bear that he shouldn’t have to deal with her, that she’s not his responsibility, that they’re worried she’s taking advantage of him. as if they aren’t also her friends, as if they shouldn’t know her well enough to notice something is off. there’s no concern for why nikki is behaving the way she is, there’s just distain towards it. she starts acting out of character and so it must all be intentional. but bear doesn’t get questioned. bear isn’t gossiped about. nikki loses all her agency and autonomy, and all she gets for it is judgment
