It's never done that before so I looked it up and turns out Roku TVs have added all sorts of creepy things in the privacy section since I last checked.

One of which being they take screenshots from what you're watching and send them to third parties to identify it.

PSA - Do not buy an LG smart TV. They just added a line to their terms of use that it's the user's responsibility to inform any guests in their house that by entering they consent to be recorded, in order to comply with wiretapping laws. That thing is literally recording you.

You can find tutorials online telling you how to open that thing up and physically remove the mic and wifi module. Frankly I don't trust anything less.

parents are allowed to straight-up torture their kids with zero consequences. they can withhold food and water, lock you out of shelter, confiscate your belongings, bar you from human contact, attack and harm you and exert complete control over your physical appearance. and this is just the norm. if you speak out against it you're seen as a delinquent or a predator. even otherwise progressive people get uncomfortable with the idea of dismantling the nuclear family unit because they still see it as the best way to keep kids safe when that simply couldn't be further from the truth. it's evil.

I feel like Vriska's typing quirk often goes underappreciated. I don't mean the part where she uses 8 instead of B or parts of words that sound like eight, I specifically mean how she starts shoving 8's where they don't belong when she starts getting emotional.

Once you notice it, it becomes a really REALLY good tool of keeping track of how Vriska is actually doing and not just how she is presenting herself. It becomes the equivalent of the comic shoving a "Vriska Stress-o-meter" at the side of your screen because the comic doesn't have to interupt itself to convey her status.

It is also part of why voicing Vriska is so fucking fun but thats another thing.

i mean there are different messages yes? i see "This reply is hidden because you have blocked the author" and "This reply is unavailable." as two different messages on the dash. When someone has removed replies it says "Some replies may be hidden, blocked, or removed". (at least, i believe that's why one message appears over another).

A new study shows how pickup artist influencers use smart glasses to create content, and the connection between covert recording and harm.

Instagram is full of first-person videos of men harassing women in public. They follow a similar script: A man walks up to a woman or group of women in a store, sitting outside a cafe, or walking home from a bar, and delivers a pickup line. The women almost always nervously laugh, react with barely-veiled disgust, or say "fuck off" while he stalks her or refuses to walk away. The men recording these videos capture them with Meta's smart glasses, which are designed to discreetly capture interactions like these and upload the videos to Meta's platforms where the women in the videos are turned into content for "pickup artist" accounts.

New research reveals this ecosystem works, and how pickup artists (PUA) influencers are using Meta's products, including its smart glasses and social media platforms, to perpetuate a culture of harassment against women.

"The data reveals a clear correlation between the 'covertness' of the filming modality and the severity of the harassment," they wrote. "This combination of first-person perspective and device concealment confirms that the means of production remain largely clandestine, facilitating a condition of low awareness among subjects and reinforcing the deceptive nature of wearable-mediated capture."
