Process of Trauma
There is something that trauma creates It is a cocoon of energy It is a life force That at first, you can't begin to control It will protect in any way It wraps you up and keeps you safe It might cut you off Amp you up Throw you into a fit when it seems Only vultures linger And it will keep showing up Even When you just get hit at a stoplight Or people don't understand you at work This helped us survive since the beginning of time It does not discriminate between circumstances It doesn't stop in an Internet age Our resilence and strength is still there Even when we sit lifeless Just TYPiNG Our bodies have absorbed our lives Can you try to feel all of your moments you Were too afraid to feel? Keep moving Keep breathing Fall away from all...that Doesn't let you move the energy through You have to feel, to be aware To not get stuck and shutdown The process is constant You will never be able to Ignore the vitality of humanness.
fleeting life
We want to forget Our feelings, our body What we do to stop knowing... It shows People see it year after year till we come undone
Be here today Feel today Till you are more than breathing ride awareness And it can and will tear you down Be Still, see the best as it sparks Your fleeting moments Dare to live
As a social worker and clinician working with “the seriously mentally ill” for many years, I never came upon someone who didn’t have fairly severe traumas in their histories. Yes, I can say those who were in that labeled segment had a solid 100% rate of trauma in their histories. Mental illness in large part is a reaction to trauma. It’s quite simple really. When we start listening to people’s stories of pain rather than numbing them out and effectively silencing them with neurotoxic drugs we will start healing them. Until then people will remain broken. One of the most basic needs for a wounded human being to heal is to be seen. Recognized. Validated. Yes. -MONICA CASSANI

All the minutes
I cant bring myself down I cant STOP I see it my head Breaking all the glass Standing up in all the minutes; all the moments in my life I have to break it all Even if it means i destroy this night; my life I will finally feel it, and be able to take a bow

The Ace Study took place in 1995. If the results had become mainstream even ten years ago it would have changed the entire course of my life. The best thing is that I did discover it on my own two years ago. Find out what you are up against. Realize why it is so important to take care of yourself.Â
The past few days i feel like i have been making some strikes; some strides and i think i hit a line. Very alive in this wire. Aware, angry, on fire, i can feel years of pain in just one moment, try to settle that spark. Glad i know NOW, a bit better how.
A nice blog describing a first hand account on how a healthy lifestyle promotes a healthy mind.Â
The hardships evident today could have been prevented twenty five years ago if someone had took me out of the "game" and gave me the tools to heal.Â
A great illustration on how to give adults and communities the tools to change the landscape of a child's life. Please Reblog if you are an advocate of change!

Wheel of Awareness. Meditation that can help with aligning physical feeling with thought. Being in the moment helps fight depression; strengthen connectedness; and leaves you calm. Powerful.Â
Some of the most difficult times are when you decide not to hide, stay quiet, surrender to the day to day. While you step out onto that ledge, stand up to say how you really feel, catch your breath, connect with your racing heartbeat, feel the breeze hold you up not knock you down. Be aware and you will harness the power of change.Â
We now know children being exposed to trauma is common. Now we need to put in place a common positive reaction and treatment.Â
Change your brain. Change your life. Heal.

If she had broken a bone or had surgery she would have received lots of flowers and cards, instead she got a few phone calls telling her to perk-up! STOP the STIGMAÂ
Connecting Pathways
It all began with watching a documentary called Wartorn. This documentary showed the impact PTSD had on American soldiers. I sat and watched and kept feeling like I get this, this is how I feel. Then I would say I am not a hero or a warrior. I have not fought for anything in my life, really. Soldiers would describe this need to isolate and feeling like they did not belong or no one understood them. I kept thinking YES, this is me. How a simple shopping trip in the grocery store presented the possibility of having to face people I knew in a difficult time. I didn't realize I was on auto-pilot keeping my head down letting fear of embarrassment grip me. I would leave the store light-headed and walk out without my change.
People have always said I am detached. I am either very aware of what might be going on, or missing anything that really is going on around me. I do not absorb facts; I learn only through repetition. My brain has acted in survival mode since I was at least twelve. I thought I hid my anxiety pretty well. I tried to combat it with exercise and a six-pack here and there.
I kept researching about childhood trauma and it’s long-term effects on health, behavior, and emotional wellbeing. That is when I found the ACE study. My score is high it terms of the types of toxic stress I was exposed to. I have been trying to understand why my brain works in the way that it does. I never knew why I had no impulse control, why people would categorize me as out of touch, or in my own world.  I have begun compassion training and different mindful methods that have decreased my anxiety and increased happiness. I notice things in my environment that I would have overlooked before. I anticipate other people’s needs and am able to connect more.
This has changed my entire life.
