My husband pulled out the shower while we were gone and thankfully there’s no apparent water damage underneath. So that’s one less thing to worry about.

Next we have to make decisions on everything and start demoing the floor. I can’t tell from the now exposed edge of the tile if the previous owner installed it correctly on cement backer or if they just slapped it right on top of the subfloor. I’m going to assume the latter based on what we’ve discovered of their previous DIYs.

Saturday we actually left exactly on time. We killed some time at a thrift store my aunt and sister wanted to check out and then had lunch and took the kids to the park before check in time. After we got everything unpacked we took the kids down the pool that’s right outside the condo.

Sunday we did the beach in the morning and then took a break then went up to the big pool area that’s near the beach. My mom unfortunately had to work today so she drove home Sunday evening. My sister’s childhood BFF from St. Louis happened to also be in Hilton Head this week on a family vacation so we met up with her and her family for dinner, more playground time and ice cream.

This morning we went swimming again and then my husband came to get Isla and they headed to their camp site about an hour away. Ava and I hung out until the afternoon and drove home. I guess the only movie that finished downloading on the tablet for the ride was Beauty and the Beast so she watched that 1.5 times before falling asleep while eating a cheeseburger (oh, to be young again). Now after a few meltdowns about minor things she’s finally in bed.

Considering we had 5 adults and 4 kids in a 2 bedroom condo it all worked out pretty well. It’s the first time we haven’t used a pack n play for Ava away from home but she did well. Also managed to hang both days with no nap until way past bedtime with minimal meltdowns. We ate out twice (the second time with 7 kids total including my sister’s friend’s kids) and that went pretty smoothly too. The only thing we ended up not having time for was checking out the Disney resort. We probably could have fit it in this morning but Isla opted to swim some more (all she ever wants to do if given the chance is swim).

Stopped at the antique store before we went grocery shopping and found this absolute nightmare fuel:

I ramped up my reading (listening) this month and really liked all of these except I Who Have Never Known Men. I just didn’t get the hype, it was well written but it was lacking plot and the only way it “stuck with me” like everyone else said was that I wished it’d actually done something because the premise was interesting.

Excuse the AI but I really couldn’t visualize anything without its help (and this is just about the only thing it’s good for, imo). I think this is basically what I want to do in their bathroom. Except a lighter shade of pink and probably no board and batten on the left side (in my head it’s weird to have the board and batten at two different heights which is why I only planned it for the right side; in the photo I think it looks fine but idk). I found the shower curtain a long time ago online and have wanted to use it in this bathroom so that’s kind of what everything is based around.

New microwave is here and my husband installed it so that’s back to normal. We’re finally a white appliance free household, how bougie (garage freeze doesn’t count).

Meanwhile my mom goes back to work tomorrow after her double mastectomy and has an $8k attorney bill she needs to pay before she can do anything else with the alimony stuff. So she either pays it and continues to throw money at the situation with no guarantee of the outcome or she drops it and has wasted $8k for nothing, no longer gets alimony and maybe also has to pay his attorney's fees (he had the audacity to ask the court to make her pay his alimony fees even though he's the one trying to resettle something he agreed to 14 years ago- even if his claims that he can't pay due to his medical issues were true, how is that her fault or her problem??).

I'm just so angry at the unfairness of it all. My mom is legitimately a good person. She always put us kids first (including my dad's kids from his first marriage, when it was his weekends but he wasn't around), has worked her ass off her entire life (ie, getting a 2nd job doing the census in the worst St. Louis neighborhoods so she could afford a new car because my dad refused to put money towards it- he then eventually took over that car and ran it into the ground), and has been nicer to my dad post-divorce than he ever deserved but I feel like she's gotten a raw deal. Meanwhile he has literally treated almost everyone in his life like garbage, has done stuff that should have wrecked his career, has been a liar and a cheater and a narcissist since forever but gets to live a comfortable life that he frankly doesn't deserve. At this point I truly think I actually hate him.
