Peshwa Balaji Bajirao become deeply saddened by using Abdali's plight of the Marathas. He despatched his cousin Sadashivrao Bhau closer to Delhi with a massive navy. The formal leadership of this campaign turned into entrusted to Vishwasrao, the eldest son of the Peshwa. Sadashivrao Bhau became a mighty commander. Abdali, searching for the aid of Indian Muslim generals, declared that he had come to India to shop the Muslim kingdom of Delhi from the plunder of the Marathas. The sympathies of all the powers of India had been with Abdali besides Raja Surajmal.

To say that Marathas have been combating a battle with Ahmad Shah Abdali on behalf of Mughal Emperor Alamgir, however by using this time the Mughal Empire had emerge as so precarious that Emperor Alamgir couldn't send even a small army towards Ahmad Shah Abdali. Sadashivrao Bhau left from the south on 7 March 1760. The Marathas had been greater than vital in their victory. They couldn't even think about their defeat. They reached the battlefield with their wives, concubines and maidservants. Before entering the battlefield, he took a dip in Pushkar and Prayag and had darshan of Vishwanath in Kashi. They proceeded very carelessly toward Delhi. In August 1760, Sadashivrao snatched Delhi from Abdali's men and also captured Kunjpura, the primary middle of the Afghans near Delhi.
