It’s pretty rare to have photos snapped of me other than GoPro selfies - I’m usually running around trying to capture everything myself. Well thank you @iflyheli for capturing probably my favorite photo of me to date. This ice cave is one of those places that makes you stop and forget about anything you intended to do; instead you just find yourself exploring and taking in every little detail in awe. I also think this might’ve been one of the more dangerous places I’ve had a photo taken... This collapsed ceiling is at the very end of a football field sized cathedral of a cave, the only thing shining bright light from within. I think if I ever own and or pilot a helicopter I’d have a mandatory no selfie-stick policy. On the tail end of our BC heli adventure for the HERO7 launch I got a few laps in at the @whistlerbikeprk ! Shot this vertically on HERO7 in timelapse photo mode in photo every 0.5 sec. Shot it flat and colored in Lightroom and Photoshop.. oh and photoshopped out the pole on my head. Cheating, but it was ugly 🤷🏻‍♂️. If you haven’t checked out my blog, link is in the description! Here’s a very standard photo of the night sky. Could have been anywhere, except I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Milky Way this bright other than a remote part of New Zealand. Well good job Tahiti for being in the middle of nowhere! Shot this on my 5DmkIV using the @sigmaphoto 24-70mm F2.8 Art lens at 24mm. ISO 3200, F2.8 and 30” exposure. Setting your white balance is pretty key to getting good night photos directly out of the camera. I typically use Kelvin. Trying to shoot a sweet shot of @randyschmidt diving when a local was like “woah is that an unreleased HERO7??” 😝 Shot this in RAW using night timelapse mode. Fun fact - if you shoot in night-lapse mode, but have shutter and interval set to auto, you can have RAW on and capture shots during the day at intervals of less than 5 seconds (currently shortest interval that supports RAW in regular time lapse mode). Sometimes my job is editing for weeks straight and sometimes it’s sitting in a hammock at sunrise in Tahiti shooting my feet with a HERO7. As a huge nerd and a creative, the time in the edit bay is just as rewarding as this cute little scene of perfection. One of the many amazing sights we found amongst the glaciers in BC. This is part of a system of ice caves at the base of a huge glacier. Inside it’s bigger and more magical than you can imagine. You’re surrounded by the most intense colors of blues, filled with light from the sun and reflecting the light from outside. Each year the walls are growing thinner with the warm summers. From recent reports, a large part of this one collapsed just 2 weeks after we were there. Recipe for epic adventure: two badass friends with helicopters + 4 filmmakers + glaciers. Hats off to @bradleyfriesen and @iflyheli for being more than down to go for an epic week of adventures in the most beautiful of places. You might have seen a couple shots of @thebtown and I with massive grins on our faces in the HERO7 launch spot. Happy to say I’m working on a full length story from our adventure! This particular spot is at the base of a massive shrinking glacier. The bergs are the very recent remnants of giant chunks of the glacier that have calved off. We cruised up here last year and you can see the glacier has retreated hundreds of feet in just 10 months. Finally retiring my trusty old Subaru. I thought the day may never come, for she has treated me with nothing but positivity from the beginning over 8 years ago. I bought the Subie with 100K miles on it for under $10K. It was my first car; got it fresh out of college. I was in Oregon sorting a few things before starting full time at GoPro. With about $200 left in my bank account after paying my way through school and eating leftover ski team food for a season, I told @nicholaswoodman I needed to buy a car to make it to work in SF. He returned my email with a (digital) smile and offered me a starting bonus to pay for a “sick mountain car, because that’ll be your job to keep shooting epic snow content”. Well Nick, I think that 7K was very well spent 🙂Thanks for believing in me! It made it to Mammoth and Tahoe from SF, LA, and SD filled to the brim with skis and camera gear weekend after weekend. Still runs great, but it was time for a little change of pace. Hopping on the EV movement (plug-in electric) with this new little snow ripper. Looking forward to the auto-pilot drives to @mammothmountain this winter 🙃. For the car kids - 400HP, all wheel drive, with 2 electric motors that help the 0-60 in 4.9s. Plug-in electric that can run on either electricity or both gas + electric.
