Trapped, wings clipped, stuck in her cage.
Always the victim of her keepers rage.
He has never hit or hurt her,
Never cut off her gorgeous wings,
But he doesn't give her space to fly,
She is such a pretty swan,
She was happy when she was free.
But now she cannot see the world,
She longs for the day she can
Escape and leave this pen.
He says he’ll let her go,
But he never tells her when.
Even when she's with him,
She's never felt more alone.
She’s sure she’s stuck forever,
But she’ll never give up hope.
Her children come to her for love,
Their eyes like mirrors soft and bright.
They don’t know what's been stolen,
That their mother lost her flight.
They smile and play inside the pen,
And call her name with laughter sweet.
But she cannot help the aching pain,
A prisoner, who cannot meet-
The world outside, the life she craves,
To teach her young ones how to soar,
To show them skies that they can chase
And open wings that fly once more.
But still she holds them close and tight,
And shields them from the storm outside.
She whispers dreams of distant skies,
Where they, too, may someday glide.
Though bound for now by chains unseen,
She’ll give them strength to spread their wings.
She fights to be their guiding light,
And teach them how to take their flight.
