Pulling Teeth

Oh fuck, we actually won. Didn't think that'd happen. We really ARE the bad guys now.

I don't usually follow football, but since it's the World Cup and I am (unfortunately) English and we are usually the bad guys in any event like this. I feel I have to say I'm shocked we're actually winning but as the bad guys we must bathe in the tears of the rest of the world. Tally-ho.

While I really appreciate the fact My Chemical Romance have covered Common People by Pulp (a band from my hometown) it would be nice if the people on social media promoting it had a little bit of media literacy about them. The song isn't about "not wanting to be one of the common people by being yourself" it's about classism. It's always been about people in the upper classes trying to pretend they are just like the working class and everyday person while at the same time being able to flee back to their comfy, sheltered lives whenever they like and pretending to be "common" is like a game for them. Making light of the struggles of people who live in poverty and have to barely scrape by money wise. It's not even hard to see this when you read the lyrics, they don't leave room for interpretation. Just... Pay attention to the media you're promoting, otherwise you just look stupid when you're missing the message by a large margin.

One of my favourite tropes in media is when the hero is losing a fight and an old villain returns to help the hero. I don't know why, but it just always feels really cool. Even when it's written poorly, the trope is cool enough to usually carry it.

You know what we don't have enough of these days? Dumbass, goofball bands. Like Blink 182, Bowling For Soup, Bloodhound Gang. We had it great in early 00s / late 90s with just great musicians who didn't take themselves serious at all and just made dumb jokes to make sure everyone laughed and had fun. We need more of that back again.
