❝ I have learnt it is often useful to expect the unexpected, because look at where both of us are now. Oh I do love it so, Denmark shall always have my heart. Although the pressure to marry is now incredibly unbelievable. ❞

          The snow felt like home, the familiar harsh sting of the           cold air upon her cheeks made her feel as if she were in           Denmark once more. It was a place she would always miss,           no matter where in the world she was. Now even more so           than ever before now that she was QUEEN.

Aaliyah watched with lack of amusement at his lack of manner - it wasn’t that she wasn’t used to that sort of behaviour. She had grown up in Denmark, where the men were loud and rowdy and the women could often be just as bad. ❝ Do you need guidance back to the castle? ❞

♚ — Asta folded her arms over her waist as she listened to Aaliyah, her fingers twirling the silken buttons at her wrists. ‘’I can assure you he has no plans to make any changes to our alliance. When I am Queen myself I plan only to strengthen it and expand it.’’ She nodded. ‘’How fares your brother, if it is not too intrusive to ask.’’

❝ That I am most thankful for. ❞ the alliance between Denmark and Sweden had remained strong for years already, and Aaliyah wanted it to remain that way for many more to come. ❝ By brother do you mean the previous King, or the brother who is enjoying finally being away from home. ❞

❝ It seems that is a question we are both pondering. ❞

♔|♱      William watched rather proudly as Aaliyah spoke to those around her like a TRUE Queen. After she had expressed so much faith in him, the least he could do was to congratulate her on her rise. Their situations may have been similar and yet he couldn’t imagine fitting into the role just as she had; as if born for it. “I simply wished to welcome you back to court and congratulate you, your MAJESTY.” The Prince bowed, a grin tugging at the corners of chapped lips.

❝ Three weeks and I still not quite accustomed to hearing that. ❞ Aaliyah admitted sheepishly, followed by a quietly amused smile. ❝ Thank you, William - truly. It is good to see you once more, dare I admit. ❞ she welcomed his familiarity after spending weeks surrounded by new faces and people whom she had only brief seen before in passing. Her life as princess had been rather DIFFERENT, to say the least.

♚ — Asta smiled at Aaliyah, her smile almost growing into a grin as she watched the new Queen grow accustomed to her position. ‘’I was just congratulating you. It is a shame about your brothers abdication, though he mustn’t have done so without good reason.’’

❝ Of course, Denmark suffers rather the loss of a great King and ruler - but alas ‘tis not a suitable role for all. And thank you - for your kind words. I shall carry them with me through this new unfamiliar weeks. I have written to your father in the hopes of him wishing to CONTINUE our alliance.  ❞ 

“I suppose you are right, your highness. Perhaps we could find a violinist to strike up a bit of music to encourage cheer once more. What do you think?”

❝ That is quite a wonderful idea, as I truly believe that music does soothe the soul. It may not quite do the trick, but perhaps it shall remind others that there are moments of simplicity in this world. ❞

“I’m sorry that I’m not as joyious as most of the people. You are right, it is good that there will be no more deaths but that doesn’t mean we should simply forget the people that did die. I believe my mother’s death is enough reason for me to be a sober and stay that way for a little while longer. It’s called mourning. But I am very glad that you did not lose anybody and can be happy and relieved, Princess”

❝ Please, do not apologise for your grievance nor your loss. I assure you I meant no harm or abruptness in my words, you are not at fault for how you feel. And for that I am also sorry, no matter how many lives we saved, the lives we lost shan’t be forgotten. Every death was an unnecessary and cruel act of violence which was out of our control, and I just hope we do not have to suffer in such a way for a long time to come. ❞ 

✕       “I believe some are still in mourning for their lost ones, not everyone can have the positive outlook ye have, Princess.”

❝ Of course... And they must take all the time they feel they need in order to begin to accept their loss. But I thank the gods that I was lucky enough to suffer no personal losses. And for that I feel that as rulers, or soon to be rulers, we must lead as an example to our people and show strength when they cannot. ❞

“I’m following you! Did I not just say I haven’t seen the gardens?” he teased, setting down his goblet and snapping up his cloak, for it was already chilly in France. “How much is still alive out there, anyways? You may be accustomed to such chill, but in Rome, the airs are still warm,” he hummed, offering his arm to the young girl. Julius led her out of his chamber, already happier with her around. “I’ve been well enough. No longer a free prince.”

❝ Ah but there are less eyes and ear outside than there are inside. ❞ she reminded him with a gentle teasing smile as she took his arm.  ❝ We are not all blessed with the graces of Rome nor being a warm blooded Italian. Being a Dane certainly as its perks. ❞ Aaliyah flashed him a smile which was playful in nature as they walked along the main corridor to the gardens. ❝ So I’ve heard... A congratulations is in order, now that you are a free Emperor. ❞
