I think one of my major goals for 2025, apart from you know surviving the current sociopolitical/economic hellscape, is to actually start writing a fanfic idea / setting that I had stirring up in the back of my mind for a while now.
It would be a comic book crossover / fusion AU of Marvel, DC, a little bit of Dark Horse and Image comic characters and ideas, and just a scattering of elements from some animated series and novels.
Inspirations for this fic that might help give a sort of hint at the vibe I'm going for include :
*The Trilogy of Blade movies
*Mike Mignola's entire body of work really, but more specifically his two Batman Elseworlds comics.
*Super old school runs of Doctor Strange
*The New 52 Dark Justice / Justice League Dark run
*Stan Lee's Just Imagine DC one shots
*Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing
*The Spider Verse, not just the movies but the original comic book events and the Shattered Dimensions game
*The Mystery Kids crossover fandom
*Peach Momoko's Ultimate X-Men and Demon Days
*The work of Greg Weisman, especially Gargoyles and Spectacular Spider-Man
*And the very very small amount of ideas from the DC x DP fandom that I actually think are interesting / tolerable.
Setting / theme / tone would be Urban Fantasy with mild or light Cosmic Horror elements. Most if not all superpowers and abilities are magical and psychic in nature.
The protagonist would be a blind Peter Parker with the powers of Madame Web. The primary pairing would be spideyvenom + symbrock. The Venom symbiote would be a demonic / spiritual entity of living darkness, which it kind of already is in the comics but it's not just that, instead of an alien.
I have started to write bits of disparate scenes to try and get a sense of how I want to approach dialogue and tone and I'm slowly throwing together a lore bible/worldbuilding document.
