I have a very docile Rose Hair, Roxanne. Someone told me she may actually be a different species in the Grammostola genus, but I’m not sure. she’s probably the most docile tarantula I’ve ever owned. Tarantulas in this genus are known to be chill, but she’s even extra nonchalant about being handled in any which way. The thing is, lately I’ve been getting these small itchy painful hive-like blisters on my palms. I first thought it was from Elvira , the burgundy bird eater because they are notorious for their urticating hairs but I rarely touch her (I may be bold some days and stroke her bum). I think it’s actually from Roxanne! Has anyone ever had a spider in this genus cause such a reaction? And could life be so cruel to make me, one of the only people I know that wants and needs to handle spiders on a daily basis for their work allergic to them?! Could it just be that I’m only allergic to Roxanne? I’ve had other Rosies in the past with no problems. My hands itch. Life, you cruel.
