Two new songs I did with Jay (Daniel Striped Tiger)

for the handful of people (maybe) that might remember, i used to play shows around boston under the name the nine billion names of god. it’s been a very long time since i’ve played a show, and playing in another band (sinaloa) took its place for a long time. about 10 years ago, i recorded a bunch of songs with Mike Law in the studio that he and Andrew Schneider had (Translator Audio). i was really happy with the songs and the recording, but i didn’t do anything with them. i have a properly mixed album still sitting, but i’ve tidied up the other songs for a follow up (to something that will someday be “released”) that is ready to go. over the last year or so, Mike and Andrew put just about every dime they had and every drop of sweat into building a new studio in Brooklyn, along with a bunch of high quality practice spaces. they did a ton of construction themselves, in an empty building. the studio and practice spaces were barely open when Hurricane Sandy brought 6 feet of water into the building. every room was wiped out. most of the studio gear is gone. they’ve essentially lost their investment, and who knows how much of their lives over the last few years. very long story, not short enough - i’m posting an album recorded by mike in their old studio. i don’t expect all that many people to listen or download it (for free or donation), but if anyone does download it and donate any money, for the next year or so, i’m just going to send the money down to those guys. there are plenty of worthy causes, and plenty of charities for people that lost homes, etc…but i know these guys. they are great people, and as happy as i am that they are physically okay, their situation sucks.

I recorded a new song, with friends Jason St. Claire (Daniel Striped Tiger) and AJ Barillaro (Anton Bordman, Lorna Doom), called gold records. it’s about Carl Sagan’s time capsule of humanity, sent out to the cosmos. it’s also about wanting to be remembered by those around you, and the desire to make an imprint in whatever way you can / wish to. this was recorded at home, in my basement, over the span of about a month. jay played guitar and did vocals, AJ played bass, and i played drums, did vocals, some odds and ends, and did the recording/mixing.

I posted the first of what will hopefully be many home recordings to my bandcamp page.  Album (it will expand)/Song are called No New Flags, and the song is available for streaming and free download.
