Fake BG “Stare Steppers” Staircase

UPDATED – now includes all the BG staircases!

I really like the look of the default non-connecting stairs, but actually never use them because of the pathing issue – you know, that arm-waving thing when a sim realises they can’t go upstairs because someone else is already using the stairs? Well, no more, I say!

I have uploaded some pictures of the upcoming neighborhood Aileen Landing and I think it’s time to upload pictures of the inhabitants which will come with the neighborhood.

Busy Bees: Wild Hives

Forager Sims can collect honey and hives from wild bees for free…at their own risk!  There are two types of hives: Skyrim or more realistic “honeycomb” style covered in bees texture. You must choose which type you prefer for your game as you cannot have both.

An Old Tree Log, Old Tree Stump, or Hanging Hive are ideal locations for wild bees to dwell. You can find these in the Build Catalog under Garden -> Gardening for free. Place these in your forests and yards to “attract” bees. The Hanging Hive can be placed anywhere with cheats. It features the raise/lower bhav to put it into bushes, trees or other opportunistic locations without the need for omsp.

An hour after the Old Tree Log or Old Tree Stump are placed a beehive will appear along with bees fx. This happens only 5 Sim minutes after placing the Hanging Hive. Teen through elder Sims can collect the entire Beehive or a Jar of Raw Honey. The Beehive will be needed to stock the Apiary Station Skeps, while the Jar of Raw Honey may be used to stock the fridge as food. Both may be sold for profit too. The Wild Beehive is kept in a basket which includes 6 wicker textures. Sims can “open” or “close” the basket via pie menu. Selecting to “open” activates the bees fx, where you can see bees escaping their hive. Selecting “close” will turn it off. Meanwhile the Jar of Raw Honey includes 4 jar and 4 lid recolor options.

Once the Sim has made their initial collection the hive is “destroyed”, meaning it disappears for 48 hours. In a few days a new colony of bees has established their home and Sims can harvest once again. This happens from Spring through Fall, while the hives are dormant in winter. It’s important to state that successful collection of honey or hives is dependent upon a Sim’s “Mechanical” skill level. Sims with low skill will fail at making their collection and will be attacked by bees, while Sims with high skill always be successful and remain unharmed. Mechanical Skill Level Requirements as follows: 0/ 1 / 2 - Sims will stupidly poke at the hive with a stick and will be attacked by bees. Their only option is to flee without being successful at collecting anything. There is an approximately 5% chance of “Angering Bees” which can result in death. While rare, it can happen. Though it’s not generally not likely to happen since harvesting is a non-autonomous interaction. 3/ 4/ 5 - Sims attempt to contemplate the best way to steal the hive or honey and have a 50% chance of being successful. Failure means being attacked by bees without collection along with motive loss. 6 or higher - Sims approach the hives with stealth, use a torch to smoke the hive, thus calming the bees and then collect their reward in a basket. There is no motive loss. During all attempts at collection Sims will be building mechanical skill, so if they try enough times they will increase their capabilities and chance of success.

Autonomous Collection Placing an Empty Basket into the Sims personal inventory means they will autonomously collect beehives, while placing an Empty Jar into personal inventory means they will autonomously collect raw honey. Placing both basket and jar into inventory means your Sim will autonomously select to collect either item randomly each time. Skill levels still apply, so it’s up to you to decide if you only want to assign autonomous collection to qualified Sims that will always be successful or encourage your lower skilled Sims in order to build their expertise. You can “gift” these tools to visitors and employees to encourage them to do work for you. Autonomous Tools can be found in the Buy catalog under Hobbies -> Miscellaneous. Stealing Hives or Honey Visitors to the lot that are considered “mean” (300 nice points or less) and in a bad mood may attempt to steal a hive or honey. Hopefully they have the necessary skills or they may get retribution from feral bees. Low skilled visitors typically only make a couple of attempts before their motives drop low enough that they must leave or seek other entertainment.

Why are you doing this? What’s it all about?

In Jones’ own words: “It has been a rough several months for my family. My dad had a stroke (he’s made a wonderful recovery though), my mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly, we were without electric for a month, and all of this combined with my tendency to internalize everything caused something to break inside me and I spent several days at a psych hospital. With his mother passing away and me being in the hospital (we have 3 girls that I wasn’t there to take care of), my husband has missed a fair bit of work, he got no check at all a couple weeks ago. Bills have gotten behind, as well as new bills been added. $1300 for the hospital stay (after the insurance has paid their portion), $25 co-pay every week for therapy and $10 a month for meds. I worry about the continued financial strain and the affect it is having and will continue to have on my anxiety.“

The Sims community is special. Sure, there are other gaming communities with their own modding communities. But the Sims isn’t like other games and we aren’t like other communities. Recently a member of our community has been struggling, so we have come up with the Back on Track project to help her.

Ivy in the Middle with Grapes!

In keeping with the idea of a helping community, this ivy allows Sims in low spirits (red aspiration) to confide their problems. Maybe the house is a mess? Perhaps the garden is overrun with weeds? Maybe the shower needs to be fixed? Or perhaps there just isn’t enough food in the fridge to feed everyone?

Shortly after your Sim whispers a problem to the ivy, a neighbor will come by (during daylight hours) to assist. Word travels through the grapevine, you see. :)

The ivy can be found in Decorative -> Plants for $0 because you should never feel punished for asking for help when you are in need.

The ivy requires the Mansion and Garden Stuff Pack because it pulls its textures from the wall ivy that came with the pack. The grapes are a separate subset set so they will work with any recolors.

Polycounts are 220.

Please let me know if there are any issues with the object. As always, be sure to be descriptive; simply saying “it doesn’t work” doesn’t help me to help you. Also please note that the ivy will only maintain one interaction at a time. So if your Sim needs help with both gardening and cleaning (for example), you will either need two plants or wait until the ivy has pushed one of the interactions onto a neighbor.
