a teenager in a world full of demons, shown to be fearful of just about everything around him. he was taken in by jigoro, a former thunder hashira, after taking on a mountain of debt by women who he thought loved him. been put through rigorous training to the point where he ran up a tree trying to get away from the old man--which is when he got struck by lightning and survives, though it's where he got his bright yellow and orange hair.
upon passing final selection, it's not long before he meets tanjiro, inosuke and nezuko and his world starts changing for the better. he might still be a coward from time to time, but with the help of the people around him, he starts to come out of that frightened shell he was once in and come into his own.
sure he can't use more than the first form of his thunder breathing at first, but upon learning that his master had taken his own life because of another pupil who chose to become a demon over being co-successors of the title thunder hashira, he unlocks a brand new technique that only he can master--using said attack to take down the same pupil in order to give jigoro some rest on the other side.

"Well still...it was an accident and no matter how disappointed or mad he might be..." He didn't really know about Zeni's grandfather so he didn't exactly want to make too many assumptions there with the closest comparison he could muster being how his own Ma would react - and that alone was a very difficult though, especially picturing what was sure to be disappointment and heartbreak. zenitsu felt grateful to just be able to vent some things out, having someone that wasn't in his friend group be so kind to him was rather nice. however, the words that the other spoke did make zenitsu give a sigh as he shook his head.
"i don't think that'll work, i'm sure the program would have already contacted him..so if he doesn't hear it from me, i'm sure that he'll be even more upset." it was like he was stuck between a rock and a hard place, but he also knew it was always best to come clean.
didn't mean he had to like the situation he was in.
"You seem different. Did you do something with your hair??"
though there really wasn't anything different about zenitsu, physically, knowing that inosuke could tell something was different about him--it made him smile and blush.
"nothing's different, really, just--i guess more happy? a little less stressed?" he didn't know why, just knew that he was feeling better emotionally today.

oh thank goodness! zenitsu didn't even have to turn to see that it was toshiro, it was the sounds that came from him that alerted the young man of his arrival.
"you're back!" he said, almost racing towards him, but stopped just shy of colliding with the shinigami in a tight hug. he knew that the captain needed his space, and it was something zenitsu was trying his best to give him.
so he would just give a relieved yet grateful smile.
not being ready for the jar that emil tossed at him, zenitsu got hit right smack dab in the nose, causing it to start bleeding as he was going down for the count.
