There was a time when I believed in us. I lived for the way you spoke and trusted that we could take on the world. I wanted nothing more than to dwell in your overwhelming warmth and to wait until it enveloped me. I wanted it to consume my whole being until there was nothing left. I once thought we could breathe the same air together. That your oxygen was enough for both of us. But I was suffocating. Choking on your love and drowning in my own thoughts and your air wasn’t enough anymore. There was nothing you could do to save me. You loved so freely and so hard, intending to bring me closer to you but in reality, you only pushed me further away. Your weight was crushing me with every loving smile, kind laugh, and stolen kiss. I told myself that I could fall back into love as swiftly as I had fallen out of it, but I was tired. So, so tired of lying to both of us. And so I did it. I stole a piece of you in order to protect a shadow of myself. Without permission or warning, I scarred your once unblemished soul. I shattered us into a thousand glass shards and left you to pick up what remained. I don’t blame you for hating me and I wont ask for forgiveness, for I know that I will never deserve that great a gift from you. I wont apologize for destroying us but for the trail my fire blazed through you and the hole it left in its dust. I’m sorry I let you love me. For I was a hurricane and you were much too good to love a disaster like me.
