dropping by to say that i’m still here and lurking (way more active on twitter), but i will not be posting any fic for the foreseeable future. some of y’all have gotten wayyyy too comfortable breaking what used to be basic fandom etiquette. i’ve been in these spaces on and off for over a decade and i have not witnessed anything to the extent ive seen here.
publicly blasting authors for slow updates, difference of opinion, writing style, and suspected ai use is something i will not subject myself too. especially when writing is supposed to be a fun outlet! something i am sharing for free! out of love for a fandom and community! i fucking hate generative ai more than the next person, but too many people in this space are comfortable throwing around accusations based on vibes.
fanfic is a genre of its own, which means it often comes with a distinct writing style and prose. i love abusing punctuation and writing in threes and excessive metaphors. i do not love tampering my own writing style to *maybe* avoid accusations of ai use or complaints.
very few things can surprise me in ao3 tags anymore. there are things i gape at and mutter a “what the fuck” before i keep fucking scrolling. because i know it’s not for me. if you don’t like it, don’t read it. move on with your life. not every battle is yours.
i love writing. i was so excited to find it again after a confusing few years for me. i am at my best being a dykey little parasite in the brains of fictional gay people. i refuse to turn that into a source of anxiety because some people decided to be assholes.
also, some of y’all are being fucking weird and racist! not everyone of asian descent in ice hockey is shane hollander! real people in public spaces are not your pawns for projecting a fictional world into real life! there are some wonderful people in the nhl who deserve to exist as their own wonderful people, not as comparisons to your favorite gay of the month.
maybe i’ll be back to posting if this space calms down. i really do miss fandom communities. until then i am comfortable lurking. if anyone does actually see this post lmao dm me if you want my twitter handle, i practically live over there.
