That moment. Whoa. (Actually better at regular speed, though.)
Is it worth making meta out of the fact that the light they have next to the singers in this scene is called a âghost lightâ? Itâs the light you leave on in an otherwise empty and dark theater. If thatâs a common expression, does anyone have thoughts on the idea that theyâre illuminated by a ghost light?Â
Wow. Didnât I say something about Kurt wearing gray for liminality in this scene? Between life and death indeed.
Itâs a common expression to people who work in the theater, I donât know if non theater people know it.
The ghost light, while at times useful and may have a historically useful origin, is not a practical thing. Itâs a theater superstition, although which story you know/subscribe to depends.
The Wikipedia article is half-assed but useful enough to this discussion.
Thank you for pointing me to the Wikipedia article. In there, I found this gem: âit is considered good luck for a production if the famous Man in Grey makes an appearance during rehearsal [in a specific theater].â
I do not believe that this is a coincidence.
And then thereâs the gray hanky around the neck, with all its associations of consenting to be bound/limited and binding/limiting others â and being hanged/hanging oneself. Plus all the times Kurt wore that hanky before (which Iâll have to look up). And the scene where the ND sit on the stage in a circle in âOn My Wayâ(?) and Kurt wears black and white and a scarf in a hangmanâs noose shape.
Iâm getting to the point again where I canât say anything coherent and all that comes out is DEATH DEATH DEATH (and maybe some meaningful pointing)âŚ

Lifeâs too short to even care at all oh Iâm losing my mind, losing my mind, losing control If I could find a way to see this straight Iâd run away To some fortune that I should have found by now So I run now to the things they said could restore me, Restore life the way it should be Iâm waiting for this cough syrup to come down One more spoon of cough syrup now, oh One more spoon of cough syrup now, oh
First Listen Friday: Diva 4x13 (part 1)
There is too much diva for just one post. Â This weekâs is another two-parter.
While Kurt is in NYC plotting murder, the kids in Lima are having Diva Week. Â First up is a music better version of what they were doing with âCall Me Maybeâ because a) Beyonce, b) Unique and Tina singing Beyonce, and c) those outfits on the runway. Â I like how confused the civilians (non-divas) are as they strut out of the room at 0:15. And of course ALL of the dressing room abuse shenanigans. Â Did you know that boys can be divas? Â Blaine is not a trick as ho, he does not sweat the haters. Â Though he is probably sweating in that bird feather jacket. Â
Itâs truth time!  I love this scene so much I could probably recite it.  The way she crumples that tea packaging, his faces throughout, âtake that backâ - âI canât itâs truth time.â  LOVE IT!
Blaine is sick on the show and Darren is sick and real life. Â Art does imitate life, or maybe the other way around. Â Even though you can see hi struggling at times, this number comes off really well. Â And we all love piano-man, baby leather daddy Blaine. Â He is the Venn diagram of what people want. Â I hope he saved that outfit for when he and Kurt are back together.
Does this count as a diva off or just inappropriately being possessive of Brittany? Â Itâs too bad I donât like the song or the context much because they sound pretty great together. Â There is some spinning camera work so you know it is on. Â I also really like the way they used that vertical blind effect behind the band to expand and contract the stage area along with the emotion of the song.

First Listen Friday: Diva 4x13 (part 2)
Midnight fucking madness is upon us!  I absolutely love the NYADA fight club.  The drama and pomp for this underground battle (in what is clearly the only classroom at that school) is gorgeously lit, has an orchestra, and is packed with students (all trying to hide their boners and lady boners).  This version is the one that aired and they released the solo versions on iTunes.  Of course, I have the Kurt version and I encourage you to listen to it with earbuds in for that last note along.  It is gorgeous.  Both of them sound amazing here⌠but who is the top diva?  Kurt!  (âHe never wins anything!â)
File this under: Divas Strike Back. Â Okay so Tina does sweat the haters a little bit but I can forgive this plot line for last weekâs and this weekâs solo. Â Last time she was awkward and this time around she is fierce. Â Tina is smokingâ in that leotard and se crushes this number. Â Even the normally jaded students in courtyard are getting down with her. Â Is she wrong? Â Well, yes, she totally is. Â Is she a diva? Â Yes, definitely. Â I love Blaineâs face throughout where he is still confused but so into this whole diva thing.
Itâs time for this small town diva to get into the big leagues. Â Santana sings her way to New York in a song that totally fits her moment, her voice, and her characterâs usual rage-motivation. Â When she shows up at the loft it feels perfect. Â It is pure diva to just announce it to the people you are crashing with. Â 11/10 Santana. [Iâll never understand why Glee thinks these characters need a kick in the pants/nudge from their significant others to go to NYC. Itâs a pretty cool place and Lima pretty much sucks.]
The winners of this Diva Week are Tina, Kurt, and Santana!

Day Twenty-Five: Favorite Season Four Duets Bring Him Home - Kurt, Rachel - 4x13 âDivaâ
No contest. I prefer the duet because Chris and Lea sound so lovely together. (Since only the solo versions were released officially, I went ahead and made my own mp3 from the video.)
âKurt, dude. You are better than a diva. You are a goddamn caped crusader and I love you with all of my whole heart. Also in love, or at least in the verrrry smitten range of emotion is Adam. The way he look at Kurt, itâs â I think loving Kurt Hummel gives boys an immediate and incurable case of heart eyes, like, âJust watching you tie your shoelace blows me the fuck away.â He tells Kurt that heâs impressive, but Kurt doesnât hear the implied and letâs make out right now because heâs the best best friend and he has to go stitch Rachel back together.â
