Summary: Andrew helps Chris get used to the world again, and Chris helps Andrew take care of himself in their shared body
Chapter 2
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-đ§ą~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
It had been a few weeks since the pair had become one. Adjusting to their new situation had been a slight challenge, yet they were happy together regardless of any disagreements they had. The two understood the fundamental truth that they would have to be willing to communicate clearly with each other at all times.
This was easier said than done. But then again, thatâs how relationships tend to work, isnât it? Despite how perfectly synchronized theyâd become, they still had and would continue to have problems that must be addressed and fixed as best as the two realistically could.
One of their first arguments after âbecoming wholeâ, as Chris enjoyed phrasing it (mostly to fluster Andrew), had been nothing more than a bump in their relationship:
After Andrew had gotten a new PC, heâd struggled with setting it up properly. He wanted it as secure as possible, but when Chris tried to help, heâd gotten irritable with him.
â
âChris, Iâve got this.â
âIf you say so,â Chris sighed sarcastically, resigning himself to the role of an observer. Theyâd both remained silent for a short while, until Andrew spoke up.
âOh, come on,â he chuckled with the slightest hint of bitterness to his tone, âthe silent treatment? Really? After everything I went through to save you?â
âAndrew,â Chris began, pausing to carefully think out his response. Unfortunately, before he could speak it, Andrew spoke again. Chris could feel their heart ache and emotion rise from a chest and up through a throat and eyes that were never meant to be shared by two people.
âDo you have any clue how much god damn stress I was under that whole time?! You could hardly speak to me! I missed speaking to you, and-and now that- now that we finally can, and I mean properly can, you go quiet on me?! I-â
Andrew tried to continue his ranting, but tears began to spill from his eyes. And then, they began to pour out, soaking his clothes as Chris raised his right arm warily to wipe away as many of the otherâs tears as he could before placing his hand gently over Andrewâs racing heart. Chris always seemed to know just how to be there for him⌠it was selfish of him to think of things only from his own perspective.
âIâm sorry,â Andrew choked out, âIâm so sorry. Fuck, this is selfish of me. Chris, Iâm sorry, I- I didnât mean to⌠hurt you. I never wanted to-â
With a tired voice as soft as a warm hug, Chris spoke; âI understand. Honestly, I do. I mean every syllable of that. Just⌠please relax, and then we can talk about this, okay?â
âOkay, youâre right, I-â Andrew sniffled and shivered as he began breathing slowly again.
âYouâre doing good, keep it up.â
Minutes later, when Chris felt Andrewâs heartbeat slow to a normal pace again, he moved his hand to hold Andrewâs firmly. âIâm right here. You wonât lose me again, okay?â
âYouâre an angel, you know?â Andrew chuckled as he yawned. He felt his heartbeat skip a beat or two and his face grow hot. âHm⌠Chris liked being called thatâŚâ
âStop that,â Chris muttered as he squeezed his hand tighter, heat noticeable under the skin of his palm, âyou know that Iâm in your brain, right? I know what youâre thinking.â
He wasnât sure if it had been the lack of proper sleep that was causing him to feel tired or something else, and he honestly didnât care to know. Instead, he had two options right now: finish the task they started or flirt.
âRight, okay, got it. Sorry again, for-â
âDonât be. Iâve missed you just as much. I honestly tried my hardest to reach you during my time stuck in your old computer.â
âThe whole timeâŚ? Damn, I might just be stupidâ, Andrew thought solemnly. He couldnât help but feel guilty over that fact, and the fact that heâs only now thought of it this much.
Chris paused to scoff at the thought that Andrew was sure he had just heard him think, but didnât comment on it. âItâs my fault for not trying harder⌠but I do not think there was much more I could have done, realistically. So⌠Iâm sorry for that, and I wish I could have done more.â
There was a comforting silence between them, interrupted by an error sound from the computer. Andrewâs gaze instantly locked onto the screen, as Chris mumbled the words on the screen: âError: could not install Minecraft.â
âDamnit⌠our world!â Andrew growled, followed immediately by a yawn.
âWell, maybe thatâs for the best.â
âYeah, maybe youâre rightâŚâ Andrew sighed, âIâm tired. Bed?â
âItâs only,â Chris glanced at the time shown in the bottom corner of the screen, â4 pm, though. Maybe we should get dinner first?â
Andrew pouted, âokay, fine, dinner first. Would youâŚâ the words got caught in his throat, and Chris seemed to notice how he struggled to finish his sentence. He could guess what the next words would be, of course, given how Andrew was acting like a teenager with a crush about it⌠but whereâs the fun in that?
âWould I⌠what?â Chris teased, audibly smirking from some corner of Andrewâs mind as his hand began to move the computer mouse around and tap a few keys. Heâd pulled up a notepad that read âtomorrowâs plans: reply to your sisterâs texts, Andrew.â
âAh! Shit, I completely forgot, Iâll text her back now. Thanks.â
Chris hummed in disapproval, causing Andrew to freeze in place as he reached for his phone, âyouâre welcome, but you havenât answered my question. Donât get distracted just yet.â
âThis fucking guy wants me dead, huh?â Andrew thought, earning him a barely concealed laugh. âFine, smartass, would you want to get dinner out?â
âAre you willing to shower first?â
Andrew shivered at the thought of water touching him ever again, and Chris seemed to notice this. âHm⌠no, then? Thatâs alright, weâre both still recovering fromâŚâ
The words were left unspoken, though they both understood what he meant. âYeah⌠look, Iâm just happy to have you back, honestly. No need to go out to celebrate it or anything, yeah?â
âYouâre sounding a little desperate,â Chris cooed, âthis is your body, Iâm just a passenger. You choose: get clean and go out or stay in and just relax together?â
âThat is definitely a questionâŚâ Andrew muttered, furrowing his eyebrows as he thought about his answer. âWhat do you think?â
âIf Iâm honestâŚâ Chris began nervously, âI know how your body will react to contact with water in this state, having been there myself, but⌠it might be worth a shot. I also would like to see the outside world again⌠but, I can wait for your sake.â
âWell, now weâre just talking in circles. Iâll shower, just⌠uh⌠you know youâll have to-â Andrew began as he stood up from his desk chair, Chris promptly moving his half to match Andrew (just as theyâd practiced).
âYeah, I know,â Chris stated, âif weâre sharing a body, weâll have to get comfortable with this eventually.â
âAlright, just checking that you consent to⌠showering together⌠literally.â The scraggly man chuckled, âyâknow, there really isnât a better way to describe it.â
âHah,â Chris laughed nervously, âwell⌠yeah.â
As they walked to Andrewâs bathroom, Chris yawned as he spoke. âAlso, about something you saidâor rather, thoughtâearlier. I donât think youâre dumb. I think you're brave, loyal, smart in your own way, and most importantly, yourself. I wouldn't want you to be anyone else."

I forgot to write this on my art blog⌠whatever. No beta read we die like Chris.

Hand in dark, wet hand, they walked up to the glitched door together. They agreed on two things currently; the first being that they had to stop Smile from winning, even if they had absolutely no clue if this would even work. The second being that they both, despite their recent arguments, needed to stay together.
Chris allowed Andrew to take the first step towards the blinding light behind the door, following quickly to keep pace with his friend while he squeezed said boy's hand. The poor guy was trembling⌠Chris shouldâve tried harder to be there for him sooner. Itâs his fault, all of this. He shouldâveâ
âChris,â Andrew spoke in an uncharacteristically stern tone that snapped the damp creature back to reality, âwe need to do this now. I feel my⌠connection to myself getting narrower every second. Count to three?â
Chris nodded. He truly admired Andrew. If he had Andrewâs determination to continue despite everything⌠would any of this had happened? He wasnât sure.
Andrew nodded in return, voice breaking as he spoke, âokay, we go at the same time then, alright? Iâm- Iâm not losing you again if this ends up being a stupid decision.â
Chris's heart (or lack thereof) churned with regret at the sadness in his voice. âAndrewâŚâ
âOne,â said man spoke over him with an unmistakable tone of urgency as they stepped closer to the light. It chilled Chris, the reality of this situation, and he spoke along with him.
âTwo,â another step.
âThree,â they practically shouted at the same time as they squeezed through the one-block wide door frame. The proximity was⌠nice. More than nice, it was euphoric to be this close to Andrew. Well⌠for Chris it was, at least. The other scrunched up his nose in disgust. Ah⌠must be the unmistakable wet and earthy odor.
âDamn. You smell like shit.â
âWell, youâre not much be-â
The blind light had burned them bright enough to cut them off from their conversation and Andrew woke in his own with a gasp. God, he felt disgusting⌠but overjoyed! They won! They- waitâŚ
âChris?!â Andrew shouted as the fear that Chris didnât make it out with him had settled in his chest. His⌠chest. Right, it had been a while since he tried to breathe regularly. He should try that again, maybe Iâll slow his heart rate down.
As he attempted to exhale, his right lung felt⌠numb? That was the best way he could explain it. It felt like it wasnât there anymore, which couldnât possibly be true.
âA-Andrew?!â Chris wheezed out, as though just learning how to breathe again. I was followed immediately afterwards by relentless coughing, to which Andrew himself began coughing and⌠ground water managed to escape him. How?! He hadnât been in any in real life.
âChris?! Wh-where are you, buddy?!â Andrewâs tone lightened tenfold as he unconsciously wiped up the water with some of the unused napkins from last nightâs dinner on his desk. Wait⌠no, he didnât do that⌠did he? Andrew usually just soaked up spilled liquid with a hoodie sleeve or something of the sort. Oh well, maybe he did do it. Best not to worry about that for now.
âSorry for the m- wait⌠huh?!â Chris apologized.
âWhat?â
âTh-this⌠this desk, this room, this setup, everythingâŚâ
âGet to the point?â
âAndrew, I⌠think there might have been an error,â Chris spoke wearily, âand I do not know how to say this without it sounding really weird, but⌠I might be inside you.â
There was a pregnant pause between the two.
âA-as a passenger! Not⌠you know-â Chris stammered to elaborate on his statement, Andrewâs face turning red and hot due to Chrisâs apparent partial control of his body as Andrew chuckled. âHe's cute when he stutters.â
âYeah yeah, I know⌠well, itâs nice to finally be face to face, technically.â
âYouâre⌠okay with it?â Chris asked, tone soft and encompassing, like a warm blanket during winter. Soft, just like his tone years ago when heâd comforted Andrew over the phone. Soft like velvet, almost. God, he missed that sweet, raspy voice. Would it be selfish to admit that he dreamed of a day like this for years, where he could hear it in real life and keep him to himself?
âI can find a solution to-â
âNo, donât,â Andrew muttered.
âHm?â
Fuck. Okay, how was he going to tell Chris that this was an even better option than meeting in person? That sounds⌠well, itâd be best to call it what it is, right? âChris, I- uh- okay, thisâll sound gay but maybe I am gay, so⌠worth a shot.â
âCool! Cool! Yeah thatâs- thatâs great, man!â Chris responded with what Andrew could only imagine was barely concealed glee. Okay, good, theyâre in the same boat! Thank god. âThatâs- thatâs alright by me. Go on, then?â
Andrew opened his mouth to speak, but no sound left him. Pathetic. He groaned and grabbed at his hair with his hand, his left foot tapping against the carpeted floor of his room as if that would quell his increasing heartbeat or the butterflies that threatened to suffocate him from the inside out. âChris, I- fuck. Goddamnit. Ugh... I'm- I'm sorry.â
âHey,â Chris whispered shakily as he (or was it Andrew?) exhaled sharply.
Andrew had noticed something new about his friendâs (though the term didnât seem fitting enough to describe how he felt about Chris anymore) voice, now that it had caught his attention; it sounded just slightly as if the sound of it were traveling through water. It reminded him of summer trips with his family long before heâd met Chris. It was nice to have a memory of water that wasnât infested with fear of drowning. Or maybe he had always been afraid of it, and nostalgia had just saturated those memories again.
Or maybeâjust maybeâhis feelings for Chris overrode the fear response in the limbic system of his brain. Maybe he wasn't scared because it was Chris. That would make better sense, considering how said boy acted seconds after the unconscious thought had formed.
Chris raised a hand slowly and purposefully to caress Andrewâs face with their (assumed) shared arm, as if testing for his reaction. Chris wouldâve then followed up that action by cradling the manâs face and telling him heâs okay now, just like he wished he could years before everything with the wells began, and even during the time in between then and now.
The computer screen had interrupted both of their thoughts. Minecraft had apparently crashed, and now someone had been throwing a tantrum. Files began opening, error sounds played at maximum volume, and text files containing highly personal information opened and closed.
âWhat the fuck?!â Andrew shouted. Chris panicked, and, for no apparent reason other than pure primal instinct to protect, yanked his hand away from Andrewâs face and punched a dent into the screen deep enough to break the computer internally.
âFuck! Andrew, shit⌠Andrew Iâm so sorry, I do not know why I-â Andrew felt his heartbeat racing once more, though he didnât exactly feel scared. He was more relieved, if anything. âMust be Chris feeling it then, Iâm guessing? If⌠thatâs how this works.â
Andrew winced at the pain of the impact in their arm and held their hand carefully. âYâknow, not the smartest decision youâve made,â Andrew began, his heart dropping and throat drying up on Chrisâs behalf, âbut good reaction speed. Is he dead? For good? And Iâll get a new computer. No worries, okay?â
Chris had gone silent for what felt like forever, the only evidence of him still living somewhere within Andrewâs mind being the trembling hand and whimpering. âChris, bud? You alright?â Andrew asked as he flexed the knuckles on their shaking hand. He heard (and felt) Chris swallow back his nerves before speaking again.
âYou- y-youâre- youâre not mad? I broke your computer, though-â
âAnd you saved me from being possessed by some angry ghost. Plus, I have you back, better than before- better than ever!â
Andrew forced himself to breathe, to remind Chris to calm down just how Chris would do for him in the past. Chris chuckled nervously, âgood-thatâs good- thank you for forgiving me, Andrew.â
Chris cleared his throat, âfirst of all, yes. Yes, I think he is gone for good. Hopefully he is at peace now... secondly, âbetter than everâ? Care to elaborate?â
Oh. The same frog that got stuck in his throat earlier had returned, as he stammered and tripped over his own words again. âYou do not have to if you donât want to-â
âNo, just⌠give me a sec, okay?â
âAlright, take your time, I have nowhere else to be,â Chris hummed. It was that sort of hum that Andrew had known him to use when he realized something during a call. Maybe it was the fact that Chris already apparently knew his answer which quieted his racing thoughts enough for him to speak coherently, or maybe it was courage.
âIâve- Iâve wanted you to be with me again for so long,â Andrew began, âthis- this whole time, I wanted you back, just like old times. I sort of⌠only recently figured out that I- that I wanted you only recently. I- Chris, youâre everything I wish I was but couldnât be. Youâre a saint, and Iâve wanted to treat you like one. Itâs what you deserve, for always being there for me when I needed it most, andâŚâ
Chris inhaled sharply, as though bracing for impact. He and Andrew had both unconsciously intertwined their hands together, though neither seemed to notice it yet.
âFuck it, youâve just gotta rip the bandaid off sometimes,â Andrew muttered to no one, âIâm trying to say that I love you. I have since some time after we began playing Minecraft together, I think.â
Chris audibly gasped from within Andrewâs mind, as though nobody had ever spoken such utterly divine, warm words to him in his life. Something about the thought of Chris having never been told this truth tugged at Andrewâs heartstrings, threatening to snap them.
âI-I love you, too. More than you could possibly know,â Chris sighed warmly, voice dripping with such sincerity that Andrew had whined as Chris let go of his hand to move their shared one towards his face. Chris had felt his unkempt stubble on his chin, to which Andrew leaned into the touch like he had been starved of thisâlike he needed this much more than he wanted it.
Chrisâs steady and focused breath was followed by his fingers tracing over corners of the otherâs lips, but pulled were away hesitantly.
âAw, come on!â
âSorry, I- I wasnât sure if⌠or how to- you knowâŚ- never mind. I-it is probably too soon to⌠um-â
Sometimes, Andrew surprised himself. Maybe it was the fact that heâd been so exhausted that he wasnât quite thinking logically or coherently, but he found himself pulling their right hand back up to where it had been. The surprised âeepâ Chris made at the sudden action caused Andrew to smirk and breathe out a silent laugh.
âLike hell itâs âtoo soonâ, Iâve just been too big of a coward the whole time.â
âIf anything, youâve been far from a coward,â Chris uttered, as though simply stating fact, âIâve watched you fight for your life, for our lives. Even though Iâve been dead months before you started recording your adventures, you still kept trying to find your way to me since youâŚâ
Chrisâs actions stopped dead in their tracks, and Andrew felt his right hand (which had been held against his lips) go ghostly cold, along with most of his body. âLetâs just⌠not talk about it, okay? Iâd like to keep you here with me.â
âRight- yeah,â Chris halfheartedly chuckled, âyou are right. I do mean what I said, Andrew.â
Andrew hummed, heart fluttering at each comment. God damnit, did the boy know the right words to say in any situation to make him feel loved. He allowed his hand to release the wrist of his right arm, and Chrisâs next object of curiosity happened to be Andrewâs hair. Oh no.
âEwâŚâ Chris yanked his hand away, wiping it excessively on the boyâs pants, âyour hair is disgusting.â
âWow, what a way to kill the mood,â Andrew scoffed, though he knew Chris was right.
âYou need a shower, or to at least wash your hair, if nothing else.â
âI- wait! The water-â
âWill not harm us anymore,â Chris interrupted.
