"Surrender” - Graphite on Natural Stonehenge 15x20cm

I am very excited to share with you the final version of this drawing. I posted this with the working title ‘Relief’, but ultimately felt as if 'Surrender’ more accurately captures the way I eventually felt about it upon completion. There are moments in life where we have to fight and struggle to do something that is difficult, but I think there are also battles we can’t win. Certain unpleasant experiences are only multiplied in intensity by our relentless resistance to them. These could range from relatively small moments of suffering, like unpleasent emotional states or minor illness all the way up to our own inevitable death. There will come a time when we have to let go of our entire body and identity, and it is my hope that a kind of surrendering to the present moment can help turn this from simply meaningless suffering into a powerful and profound experience. I try to make all of my drawings from the perspective that I truly don’t know which one will be the last one I ever make, or which I may leave unfinished, so I always want to give each one everything I have, nothing is guaranteed.“
