我々人類は、遂に他の知的文明を発見しました。技術力の向上により直接向かうことが可能となった今、１人の研究者と1機の探査機が彼らの住む星、「セレンテリア」に向かっているのです。文明を構築した生命体が現存していれば、この広大な宇宙に暮らす住人の一員として交友関係を築くことが出来るかもしれません。たとえそうでなくとも、彼らの生きた証を調査することは我々に与えられた使命であり、希望なのです。

セレンテリアとは、セレスティア博士が2352年に直接観測に成功した知的文明のある系外惑星である。発見の手掛かりとなったセレンテリアからのメッセージにはその惑星を指す名詞が記述されているが、発音が不明なため定められた仮称である。由来は発見者であるセレスティアより。2908年にアース宇宙航空研究機構所属のエバ博士が直接探査に向かった。

SY163853は、セレンテリアの主恒星の名称である。この恒星系にはセレンテリアの他にもいくつか惑星が発見されており、発見された順にSY163853b、SY163853c…と呼ばれる。

 ◆セレンテリア性コンピューターウイルス/ The Celenteria computer virus

セレンテリアに遺された自律型AIロボットが多く感染しているとの報告が上がっている。感染したロボットは数分間周辺の物体を破壊しつくし、やがて動作が停止し二度と再起動しなくなる。その不可解な動作から、このウイルスの目的は一切不明である。略語は”C-ウイルス”と表記する。
