Courtier had made trips to the Tangled Wood before, but never had he seen it so overflowing with life. Purple chameleons crept along the trees’ spiny branches, swiveling their eyes to and fro, while leaf insects buzzed through the night air. Fairies sparkled beneath every luminous mushroom cap, and the sky teemed with unfamiliar shadows. The Nocturnes’ odd echoing calls were beginning to give him a headache. It was exactly the sort of wretched phenomenon the Etherium would wish to investigate, and of course he’d been coerced into participating.
