Height of 185cm, broad chest and handsome looks… All of the female staff sighed in delight upon seeing him enter the studio. He showed variety of expressions but when asked which one is the closest to his real self, he answered “I think it would be the one where I was leaning against the wall while relaxing. Aside from going out to do exercise, I mostly lay around at home on my days off. I want a girlfriend who would accompany me to drink at home. Even long before, I’m attracted to women who do their work earnestly. Because in that way, I would want to encourage and comfort her, not just depending on me all the time” which made our heart flutter. “If I can acquire one special ability, I want ‘an ability to see the future’.” He played the leading role in two dramas last year. Coincidentally, both are love stories of a man with unusual abilities. “「Let’s Fight Ghost」 is a love comedy drama about a university student who can see ghosts and a spirit of a female high school student living together. It’s a fun drama packed with romance, action, comedy and various elements. In the other drama, 「Touching You」, my role is a fortune-teller who can see the future by touching the person. I’m protecting a woman whose life is at risk. If I were to be given the ability between the two, the latter is definitely better. I’m really afraid of ghosts.” If he would be able to see the future, he’ll probably want to look at the members and the people around him so they can avoid any danger or trouble. When asked if he wants to see his own future, he answered instantly, “No, I don’t.” “It’s because I want to try different things. I want to get married and improve as an artist. 「Whenever I go to parties, I just want to dance! (laughs)」 I think I don’t pay particular attention to my fashion when I go to parties. Because I just want to dance. (laughs) I don’t mind being alone, but when you dance, your company gets bigger and bigger, and before you even know it, you’re already friends with everyone. 「I want to be an artist who continues to do what he wants to do」 As a 2PM member, we had our Tokyo Dome concert last October as our final activity in Japan for the meantime. I think there wasn’t any pressure. But when I think that we couldn’t be together as 6 for a while after that, I got lonely and it felt like there was a hole left in my heart. Looking back now, all I could do was focus on the concert since my will to come back someday as 6 is bigger. As a solo artist, I want to continue the things I truly want to do. I want to be an artist who can express his own self freely.

「There is no correct answer in life. That’s why, shouldn’t it be okay whatever I choose?」 If I were to explain briefly my new mini album 「Party Shots」, the content of this album would be “I expressed everything I want to convey through music!” If there is the title song 「Party Shots」 which is a fully fun dance song, there are also hip hop-like and ballad songs. I think it really gives off a very free feeling. I believe that there is no correct answer in life. (laughs) Since there is no such thing as correct answers, it’s important to do the music that I really want to do! That’s why this mini album is filled with that feeling of mine. I, myself, was extremely satisfied with the content of my previous work 「R.O.S.E」, so when I was producing the new album, I honestly felt pressured. But at the same time, my determination of wanting to do music more got even bigger. Since my previous single, I think my musicianship was more broadened. I’d be happy if a gap will be felt from my first album to the point that people would think “Is this produced by a different person?” ♪

Special Q&A of Wooyoung!!!

Q. For the outfit and hairstyle in “Party Shots,” which part were you fussy about? A. In the MV, just like the Joker who appears in Batman, I made an image where it looks like I don’t know where I’m heading to. That’s why I didn’t want the outfits to have a very neat impression on it, so I made it a little bit messy!

Q. Please tell us the main point of the title song “Party Shots” and the highlight of its MV! A. Since I like doing things such as gathering with friends, having different conversations and talking about real feelings, I personally really like parties. Generally speaking, I gave the song a theme of “Let’s make some noise!!” and let it blow up with a fun atmosphere. That’s why I want everyone to enjoy while listening to it! For the MV, the camera blocking is quick. I think that’s the highlight? It's like… you wouldn’t be able to take your eyes off of it!

Q. Do you like fashion? A. Of course, I like fashion. But rather than “I like fashion,” I think of it as a very essential part in entertainment. It’s one way for self-expression.

Q. Do you have a fashion item that you like? A. Hmm.. If I have to choose one…. I like Hawaiian shirts!

Q. We have this impression of you that tries variety of hairstyles… A. I made my hairstyle neat and clean this time! But usually, it’s pain in the neck to go to hair salons. (laughs) That’s why I’m keeping this hairstyle for now. If ever I end up doing the hairstyle that I really want, I think there would be no fans left. (laughs)

Q. Do you have your own rule when it comes to fashion? A. I don’t go as far as making a fundamental basis. There are times when I would go out with my friends wearing clothes as if I’m going to the supermarket or convenience store. Other times, I would wear a little bit of showy clothes when I go to supermarkets. The feeling for that day is what matters! I also highly take the size of the clothes into consideration. I don’t like it when it’s uncomfortable to wear. I prefer styles that would always let my body move freely.

Q. First appearance in SHEL’TTER! Please introduce yourself to our readers. A. I’m a member of a Korean group called 2PM, and we debuted in Japan 6 years ago with the song “Take Off.” As a group, we release albums and do tours every year, but this time, I’m appearing as a solo artist! 28 years old this year. No girlfriend. I’m Wooyoung! (laughs)

Q. Do you experience “love at first sight”? A. I do experience love at first sight! Just because I get taken with someone at the first meeting, it doesn’t mean that I would ask for her contact info on that same day, or convey my feelings to her right away, or make moves on her, or even confess to her. I want to be prudent when it comes to love.

Q. Please tell us your ideal type of girl! A. I think I’m not in the position to choose though… (laughs) I used to have ideal types but now, I don’t have any. Love is a feeling, right? (laughs)

Q. What do you do on your day off? A. I listen to LPs in my house, read books, or sleep. Ah, I watch documentary-type movies and shows. But that doesn’t mean I’m a complete indoor person. I still hang out with my friends or go to LP bars and bookstores.

Q. Have you ever felt a difference between Japanese women and Korean women? A. I don’t feel any difference just because someone is a Japanese or Korean.

Q. Ideal fashion for girls? A. A simple coordination of “white t-shirt x jeans” to be exact! I like casual and simple styles of female fashion. I would want her to come in a simple style even during dates♡

Q. On a regular basis, are you a night owl or an early bird? A. I am most active when it’s 12 midnight and I sleep around 10 in the morning. (laughs) My morning and night are completely reversed so we can say that I’m perfectly nocturnal! Hmm.. but right now, I have my make up on which is why my skin looks smooth. (laughs)

Q. What phone apps or SNS do you usually use? A. I only have music player which is necessary in my everyday life, internet bank app, Japanese and English translator app in my phone. SNS….. I consider it convenient and I also think it’s one good way of promoting in this modern age. But I don’t use it that much because I don’t want my daily life to be displayed more than it needs to be or to become something I just show off.

Q. Among the fans, you are being called #LittleDevil #DoingThingsAtMyOwnPace #Cute #ActuallyTheFunniestMember, but how do you think of it personally? A. Everything is correct! Well said! (laughs) But if I have to add anything, that would be “I have a lot of charms”! Also, “I love talking to people.” I just really like expressing myself. Fans are truly amazing! They can see through everything~ That’s scary~ Ah! I’m kidding~ (laughs)

Q. What food do you definitely eat whenever you are in Japan? A. Ramen and sukiyaki! I go to Jangara ramen frequently! Also, I love sukiyaki♡ I always mix up shabu shabu and sukiyaki. (laughs) The raw egg that comes with it is also good! Really delicious♡ I’m getting hungry now. (laughs) Please introduce a good restaurant to me!

Q. Do you like any artist from Japan? Please tell us a song that you like. A. Hisaishi Joe-san who is a musical director of Ghibli and Sakamoto Ryuichi-san. I actually like the soundtracks used in dramas, movies, anime, and documentaries. That made a way for me to get to know and like them! By the way, I was able to go and watch the concert of Hisaishi Joe-san in Japan! I own a lot of DVDs of Ghibli films. The first Ghibli production I encountered was “Howl’s Moving Castle” and I think I’ve watched that the most.

Q. Please tell us a song that you usually listen when you travel. A. I frequently listen to an album called “UTAU” by Sakamoto Ryuichi-san and Onuki Taeko-san. This album is really great, so I recommend all of the songs. I want to meet Sakamoto Ryuichi-san! Where should I go to be able to meet him? (laughs)

Q. Since you produce the outfits for 2PM concerts, do you want to try having your own brand of clothing? A. I really only do it for our concerts and music production. I don’t have any thoughts on wanting to try creating my own clothing line. Who will even buy it? (laughs)

What are your thoughts for being the first male on the front cover? Thank you! It's an honor. But why me? Really... why is it me? (laughs) From now on and then, I would want to appear in SHEL'TTER♡

What is your impression of SHEL’TTER? All of the models in SHEL'TTER are truly pretty! It's great to see that each of them has their own personality. Just by looking at the magazine, it can serve as an advice to all female who admires fashion. I think it's a very useful magazine. (After knowing it's a magazine where you can order) While looking at the magazine, can you purchase easily the item you like!? That's so nice! I want a copy now! Ah, but then again.. I don't have a girlfriend (laughs)

Please tell us your thoughts about the photoshoot To tell you the truth, I've known Emi-san even before as I have seen her in Japanese magazines. When I found out that my partner is going to be Emi-san, I was glad and I looked forward to this photoshoot. Since she is someone who I've always seen in magazines, I also felt the sense of relief. When I met her in person, her face was very small and she was tall. She's really a beautiful person! I was able to have fun during the photoshoot as well!

Please let us hear your thoughts about the outfit coordination

Since the concept for this photoshoot was to be a couple with Emi-san, I made sure to give importance on creating a sweet atmosphere just like real lovers. Even our matching clothes suited the concept, right? The coordinated outfit of Emi-san was very cute!

Did you have fun during the photoshoot? Of course!! I had a lot of fun! Uhhmm.. I can't remember it well but I think I didn't have much opportunities to have a photoshoot with Japanese female models. So when the discussions for this project came, I was surprised! I would want to do another photoshoot! Please let me appear in SHEL'TTER every time! (laughs)

Complete REPORT of a rare backstory during the photoshoot! Wooyoung greeted with “Please treat me well” and entered the studio in a stately manner. After greeting his partner Suzuki Emi and the staff, the photoshoot began right away! When the cameraman requested “Hold hands and act like a couple!” on just the first cut, Wooyoung got surprised a little bit. While worrying about Emi’s nails that were freshly painted for the photoshoot, he held her hands gently feeling shy which you can check at page 13! Furthermore, Wooyoung personally suggested “Let’s do a funny dance!” on page 15. As a matter of fact, Emi used an iPhone and consecutively took photos of Wooyoung who seems to be having fun while dancing. The group of female that was in the set raved with words of “So kind♡ So wonderful♡” when Wooyoung put the hat on Emi and showed concern by fixing softly her messy hair. The posing where both of them hid their face with the hats was actually Wooyoung’s ad-lib! A peeping out pose is kind of rare, isn’t it? The photoshoot continued in a harmonious atmosphere while they were holding hands, taking selfies together and exchanging jokes occasionally. We were overwhelmed by the aura of the two during the last shoot which was for the front cover. Doing back hugs, putting arm around the shoulder… the eyes of the whole staff were glued to them who looked like a real couple♡ Just as we thought he would do playful dance and show us a cool picture perfect face even during his solo photoshoot, Wooyoung showed a pampered expression gazing at the camera and several more facial expressions. With fresh denim, chino pants adult style, casual street coordination, Wooyoung is exploding a lot of charms that we couldn’t take our eyes from him more and more! Q. Looking back to the feeling when you debuted, what was it like?

TY: I can’t remember it well. I believe during that time, reality hadn’t totally sunk in yet.

Q. Tell us your impression when you first met the members

TY:

JUN. K → Broad shoulders

Q. After being together for 8 years, what things did you realize that “in fact, he is like this”?

TY:

JUN. K → He has a softer personality than I thought

NICHKHUN → Manlier than I thought

WOOYOUNG → His body is more flexible than I thought

JUNHO → He is a more hard-working person than I thought

CHANSUNG → Bigger eater than I thought

Q. What did you think about being called “beastly idols”?

TY: I’m grateful. I think having an icon can be considered as a very strong point. That’s why I’m extremely thankful.

Q: Which part of you do you think has improved the most since debut days?

TY: Vocals, composing and dance skills. Before debut, I did a lot of practice for singing and dancing, but those are not enough once you actually stand on the stage. Through a lot of stage experiences I’m gaining, I think I improved when it comes to the know-how of expressive power to make oneself appealing, power to deliver the message of the lyrics and technique to convey the emotions.

Q: On the contrary, which part of you has deteriorated? (laughs)

TY: I used to be an individualist but now, I feel like I have become considerate of people.

Q: Which part of you has changed the most physically since debut days?

TY: My body became bigger. I was originally tall but during the debut days, I lost weight. When we were doing activities for the title song “Again & Again” from our 2nd Korean album, I began to train my body since then.

Q: When you debuted, were you able to imagine how you all have become now?

TY: I just knew that we will go well as long as it’s these members. From the time we were teamed up, we practiced together for a year until we debuted. During those times, you’ll learn the personality and likes and dislikes of each members, right? In the beginning, there were times when our opinions clashed with each other’s, but we put being concerned for each other as our base. That’s why I thought it will be fine as long as it’s these members.

Q: If you could greet yourself back in the debut days, what will you say?

TY: Taecyeon, enjoy your life!

Q: If you were not a 2PM member, what do you think you would have become now?

TY: Though my friends are working in different fields, I can’t specifically come up with something for me. I can’t think of anything else aside from being a 2PM member.

Q: What did you feel when you debuted in Japan?

TY: I was grateful to be loved by a lot of people even in a foreign country.

Q: What is the happiest and most enjoyable thing when doing activities in Japan?

TY: When I can eat delicious food during nationwide tours. Back in our first Japan tour, we started from Sapporo and we ate a huge crab there. It was really big that I got surprised! I took a photo of me holding it in my hand and even now, I still have that photo.

Q: On the contrary, what was the hardest thing?

TY: Bodybuilding. Because of that, there were times when I couldn’t eat delicious food and I felt sad.

Q: A song you’ve released here that has the most memories from Japan?

TY: “Wasurenaide” which is composed by me. I have an emotional attachment to this song the most. While bearing in mind the time to get separated, the lyrics is filled with implications of “Don’t forget us when that time comes.” Its melody is not sad but it’s a kind of melody that would give you hope.

Q: With whom did you have the most unforgettable encounter in Japan?

TY: Tamori-san. I really admired him when I heard that he has been MC of live broadcasts for several decades

Q: When you debuted in Japan, what Japanese dish were you into? → Did it change now?

TY: From the time I debuted until now, nothing has changed. It’s still tonkotsu ramen.

Q: What remained in your heart from your solo activities?

TY: My appearance in the drama “Boku to Star no 99 Nichi (99 days with the Superstar)”. I had the privilege to co-star with Nishijima Hidetoshi-san and Sasaki Kuranosuke-san. I learned a lot from them. I got to know deeper the good points of the drama system in Japan, the passion of the actors and also about Japan.

Q: What do you think is that one crystallization of your work in 2PM?

TY: 2PM LIVE 2012 “Six Beautiful Days”. In this concert, it was my first time trying to compose.

Q: The most difficult music video you did since debut?

TY: Heartbeat. The filming was just so long. There’s a scene in the beginning where we are lying down then we open our eyes. We filmed that individually. They started filming me first then the scene where we are all dancing. Lastly, we had to film individually again for the scene where we suddenly stand up from our lying down position. For that, I was the one who was filmed last. That’s why I think I’m the one who spent the longest!

Q: The concert that left the strongest impression on you?

TY: It was raining that day. Mezamashi Live where we got soaked by the rain while performing.

Q: Instance that gave the most outburst of laughter in the past 8 years?

TY: When I’m always together with my members, I laugh, so…  

Q: Most embarrassing moment in the past 8 years?

TY: I don’t have anything to be embarrassed about. I love my own past.

Q: Most touching thing you had in the past 8 years?

TY: All of the moment when I’m with my members. It’s always touching.

Q: If you could give a reward to yourself for working hard until now, what would it be?

TY: I want to sleep (laughs)

Q: 8 years have passed. What do you think are the parts that have changed and will not change in 2PM?

TY: The thing that won’t change is our teamwork. It has been 8 years since our debut. If we’re going to count the years starting from our trainee days, it would be 9-10 years since we are together. In Korea, we have this proverb: “Even the mountains change in 10 years.” During the years we are spending together, we continue to understand deeply our fellow members and be considerate of one another to fit each other.

Q: Do you have any new dream or goal right now?

TY: I want to learn cooking seriously. Also… since I’m working as an actor, I want to study being a director too. After that, I would travel alone then try to write a guide book of “Taecyeon’s Recommended Trips”. I was being asked about my new dream so I ended up saying a lot of different stuff.

Q: A few words to express your thoughts to fans that have been with you for 8 years

TY: Gratitude. Until now, we have come to spend eight busy years without even looking back. As if we were in a race, we weren’t able to look out over our surroundings. From now on, I would want to be a little more free…. running for a long time while looking at the eyes of each fans one by one.

Q: For you, what is 2PM?

TY: Fire. Before, I always used to say “family”. But what I realized recently is that 2PM might be “fire” for me. Like the torch in the Olympics. I feel like I can work hard using my own abilities/talents while being firewood or gasoline for the members to protect that fire.

Q: Your thoughts and aspirations for the Tokyo Dome concert in October

TY: It’s been a while since our Tokyo Dome in 2013. I can still remember even now that it was such a touching one. I can never forget the large number of spectators that appeared in front of my eyes and the cheers when the curtains came down at the beginning. I’m excited to encounter that deep emotion once again. We are currently striving with enthusiasm of making an impressive stage that we and the fans will never forget.

Q. Looking back to the feeling when you debuted, what was it like?

NK: To tell you the truth, I wasn’t aiming to be a singer originally. I was scouted and suddenly became a trainee until I debuted. Everything seemed so bizarre.

Q. Tell us your impression when you first met the members

NK:

JUN. K → Kind friend. Because he took care of me so much during those days when I couldn’t speak Korean at all.

TAECYEON → My first impression on him was someone who never does anything except study. (laughs) Then the “interpreter”. Because he lived in America, same as me.

WOOYOUNG → Cute lost child. He just came from Busan that time and he looked very naive.

JUNHO → His dreams were big. He’s someone who works earnestly towards his dreams.

CHANSUNG → I thought “He’s definitely older than me” (laughs)

Q. After being together for 8 years, what things did you realize that “in fact, he is like this”?

NK:

JUN. K → The more you get to know his real abilities, the more you’ll realize he’s perfect. I enjoyed seeing Jun. K’s musical and that was perfect as well!

TAECYEON → He will never tell lies, so he’s someone who can be trusted.

WOOYOUNG → Instead of being greedy, he’s more like a perfectionist when it comes to himself.

JUNHO → I knew from the start that he’s someone whose dreams were big, but in fact, his dreams were 100 times bigger!

CHANSUNG → He’s actually the youngest one. (laughs) We’ve been playing golf together recently and I came to know his personality deeper. He’s a very courteous person.

Q. What did you think about being called “beastly idols”?

NK: Before us, there weren’t any idols that were called that, so it was an honor, but at the same time, we also felt the pressure. Since we had to rip our shirts off and show our muscles during performances, we always need to build up our bodies.

Q: Which part of you do you think has improved the most since debut days?

NK: Myself on stage. Since I should not make any mistakes on our choreography and must sing perfectly, I used to feel a lot of pressure before. Because of that, I couldn’t afford to communicate with the fans at all. But now, I’m enjoying it and I learned that it’s the best if I can share that with the fans.

Q: On the contrary, which part of you has deteriorated? (laughs)

NK: 8 years have passed and I really mean to do my best to be able to make up for the parts I lack. Even though I’m still lacking, I think there is no any parts of me that has deteriorated even back then.

Q: Which part of you has changed the most physically since debut days?

NK: I used to do a lot of muscle training before, but recently, I’ve been doing golf only. I think my stamina has declined a little bit. Jun. K became a cover model of this magazine called “Men’s Health” and I went to see its photoshoot. When I saw his perfect body, I rushed to the gym that day. (laughs)

Q: When you debuted, were you able to imagine how you all have become now?

NK: During debut days, I couldn’t see anything about what’s happening around me and I couldn’t even speak Korean at all, so I felt like I was walking through the dark. That’s why I couldn’t even imagine how I have become now.

Q: If you could greet yourself back in the debut days, what will you say?

NK: Don’t get too pressured and give yourself a little break.

Q: If you were not a 2PM member, what do you think you would have become now?

NK: I had different hobbies back in the debut days. I loved taking photos or playing the piano. Badminton is also my forte, so I might have aimed being a (badminton) player. Ah no, I think I would rather be a photographer…

Q: What did you feel when you debuted in Japan?

NK: The same feeling when we had our debut in Korea. I couldn’t understand the language and various systems are completely different from Korea. It felt like everything restarted.

Q: What is the happiest and most enjoyable thing when doing activities in Japan?

NK: Tokyo Dome concert. It felt like a dream to be able to do a concert in front of great number of people.

Q: On the contrary, what was the hardest thing?

NK: Nothing in particular. The period in the beginning when I was trying to get accustomed to a new environment is the only thing that was a bit hard

Q: A song you’ve released here that has the most memories from Japan?

NK: Our debut song “Take Off”. The song “Take Off” carries the meaning of “to begin”. We were in a situation back then where we started as a newcomer again. That’s why it left me an impression that this song really fits us.

Q: With whom did you have the most unforgettable encounter in Japan?

NK: The fans. In Japan, we do hi-touch events with the fans. In just one day, we can meet thousands of fans directly, so it feels refreshing.

Q: When you debuted in Japan, what Japanese dish were you into? → Did it change now?

NK: Sushi, Ramen → Tsukemen. My favorite ramen restaurant has tsukemen during summer only. I would call them every year and ask “Do you have it already?” and the owner would say “Please wait a little more”.

Q: What remained in your heart from your solo activities?

NK: When I appeared in a movie in Japan. I haven’t filmed any movies in Korea before that so when an appearance request came from Japan, I was extremely surprised. I first appeared in “Ouran High School Host Club” and my role was someone who can speak English and Japanese. It was fascinating.

Q: What do you think is the turning point or one crystallization of your work in 2PM?

NK: Our debut in Japan. When we go to foreign countries, the six of us spend time together, which makes our teamwork better. We were also able to do many concerts because of the fans. Due to the concerts we have done through the years, we improved our ability, gained more confidence and had more opportunities. Our Japan debut is truly full of good things for 2PM.

Q: The most difficult music video you did since debut?

NK: Heartbeat. There were many scenes with dance battles so we practiced a lot. In the midst of it, my lower back got injured that I couldn’t even walk at all. The recording was in two days but we were in a situation where we couldn’t postpone it. So I had to wear a protective equipment while dancing. It was very painful but I desperately did my best. Even if I watch the completed MV now, I think you won’t know that my back was hurting that time.

Q: The concert that left the strongest impression on you?

NK: It’s definitely the Tokyo Dome concert.

Q: Instance that gave the most outburst of laughter in the past 8 years?

NK: If Wooyoung is around, I always laugh hard.

Q: Most embarrassing moment in the past 8 years?

NK: A futuristic cyborg outfit was prepared for a performance in an award ceremony. We were wearing a little vest so our abs were being exposed. To tell you the truth, it was embarrassing. I think the fans know which outfit I’m talking about. (laughs)

Q: Most touching thing you had in the past 8 years?

NK: Receiving our first big award for our song Heartbeat in Korea among our great seniors. We were so moved that everyone cried. We also cried during Tokyo Dome. Ah, so far we have been crying a lot. But I am never a crybaby. Because I only end up crying on the stage.

Q: If you could give a reward to yourself for working hard until now, what would it be?

NK: I’m still not satisfied about myself, so I can’t give anything to myself yet.

Q: 8 years have passed. What do you think are the part that has changed and will not change in 2PM?

NK: The thing that will not change is us doing our best at all times. The thing that has changed is all members have done songwriting. Thus I find it amazing that we are able to participate in production process.

Q: Do you have any new dream or goal right now?

NK: For all members to release a solo album. Our fans know each members’ strong points and weak points. Understanding those points, I think the fans would enjoy the solo albums.

Q: A few words to express your thoughts to fans that have been with you for 8 years

NK: There is no words to express it other than “Thank you”. After that, I want to express it more and more through actions.

Q: For you, what is 2PM?

NK: Family. I was living with my real family in Thailand until I was 12 years old and studied in America after that. I came to Korea 10 years ago, so the years I have lived with my real family and the years I have spent with 2PM are almost the same. Thinking of it, life is sure fun. When I was a kid, I didn’t even know where Korea was. As for any connection between me and Korea before, it would be just the present-day Sonata car that my father is driving. To be able to have people like a family to me from that country is really something…

Q: Your thoughts and aspirations for the Tokyo Dome concert in October

NK: Until now, we have done more than 100 concerts in Japan. We will show all of the experience we have cultivated through those concerts and the know-how that we acquired to make it as the best concert. That is the kind of ardor we have right now.

Q. Looking back to the feeling when you debuted, what was it like?

WY: Nothing but feeling nervousness. Normally, I’m the type who gets nervous easily. So I can’t remember anything else aside from being nervous.

Q. Tell us your impression when you first met the members

WY:

JUN. K → He approached me in a very frank way.

NICHKHUN → He’s so handsome that I was astonished.

TAECYEON → I was a viewer of a popular audition show “Superstar Survival” which he appeared that time so I was like, “Oh! He’s the guy from that show!”

JUNHO → Junho also appeared in “Superstar Survival” so I thought, “He’s from that show too!”

CHANSUNG → Chansung was from “Superstar Survival” as well. So same as the other two, “That guy was from that show!”

Q. After being together for 8 years, what things did you realize that “in fact, he is like this”?

WY:

JUN. K → Very sensitive and has a great passion when it comes to music.

NICHKHUN → Ever since the beginning, he’s already been nice and kind-hearted. Even now, he hasn’t changed at all and he’s still a good person.

TAECYEON → He likes studying. That’s why he is well-informed about history, general information and social etiquette.

JUNHO → He’s originally the type who is good at attracting people towards himself through his charms. Adding to that, his thoughtfulness and experiences have now made him become a person who can see a forest rather than just a tree.

CHANSUNG → He reads a lot of books, has a great interest in communicating with people and is well-versed in psychology, which is very helpful in building our teamwork.

Q. What did you think about being called “beastly idols”?

WY: I thought it was very strange. We weren’t intending it to be like that, so when people started calling us with that name, that itself already had me wondering. Moreover, it became a new kind of entertainment content which was also strange.

Q: Which part of you do you think has improved the most since debut days?

WY: Back then, I knew nothing else except dancing. After going through various experiences and activities, the feeling of wanting to be more than a mere entertainer or singer began to grow in me. I still want to learn many more things even now. I’ve become to think how I should make use of the things I learned in music

Q: On the contrary, which part of you has deteriorated? (laughs)

WY: Amount of practice (Not in a bad meaning). I used to think before that life is all about practicing to the point where I don’t meet my friends and just stand in front of the mirror to practice very hard. But now, I’ve come to realize that was wrong. The new thing that I learned is that I want to value my own time as well.

Q: Which part of you has changed the most physically since debut days?

WY: Physical strength. I was only 20 years old when I debuted, so even though my body gets exhausted, I could still work hard. But since we had to do acrobatic dances, we injured ourselves a lot of times and went back and forth to the hospital frequently. After going through those experiences, I’ve become very sensitive towards taking care of myself. In the past, I didn’t hesitate to overwork my body but I came to realize that my poor physical condition can cause trouble to my team. Thinking that way, I learned to pay attention in taking care of my own body

Q: When you debuted, were you able to imagine how you all have become now?

WY: Of course, I knew we would achieve success. Rather than being confident, I think I can say that it was a wish. I kept on thinking that I want to do activities together with the members for a long time. Getting along well together and be concerned for one another, while being a fellow music companion and a good inspiration to each other.

Q: If you could greet yourself back in the debut days, what will you say?

WY: Have fun!

Q: If you were not a 2PM member, what do you think you would have become now?

WY: I think I would be dancing. Honestly, we’re too busy that I didn’t have the time to think about such thing until now. If I could think about it again now, I want to be a kind person. (laughs)

Q: What did you feel when you debuted in Japan?

WY: It couldn’t believe it. It didn’t sink in right away.

Q: What is the happiest and most enjoyable thing when doing activities in Japan?

WY: Tokyo Dome concert. To be able to perform in Tokyo Dome, which had always been our goal, is a memory that is still hard to believe. Dome is too wide that I can’t see the fans well. I can still remember that I was totally bewildered. Generally speaking, it felt surreal to me.

Q: On the contrary, what was the hardest thing?

WY: Communication using the language. My Japanese skills weren’t that good back in our debut days, so it was very difficult for me dealing to what extent I can respond/react in variety shows.

Q: A song you’ve released here that has the most memories from Japan?

WY: I love all of the songs, but if I really have to choose one, it would be “Take Off”, our debut song in Japan.

Q: With whom did you have the most unforgettable encounter in Japan?

WY: Nishihara Kenichiro-san. He’s a jazz artist. Since I like his music a lot, I’ve posted about it in my own Twitter several times. Then he began to follow my Twitter account too and from there, we became good friends. I have also invited him to 2PM’s concerts and he is still sending me albums even now. I’m truly happy to think that it also gave way to have a personal contact with him.

Q: When you debuted in Japan, what Japanese dish were you into? → Did it change now?

WY: Ramen. Whenever I go to Japan, I always go to ramen restaurants. → Nowadays, I’m into Japanese bread. In Korea, there is a bakery located in Garosu-gil named “TOKYOPANYA” whose owner is a Japanese. It’s the one and only bakery I go to in Korea. Whenever I come there, the people in the shop try their best to talk to me in Korean. As for me, I also try hard to talk to them in Japanese. That funny scene keeps playing in my head. (laughs)

Q: What remained in your heart from your solo activities?

WY: I think my solo activities in Japan became a big source of strength for me. When I go to Japan alone, it felt more like I’m going for a trip rather than going for work. I think the staff felt the same way as well. I had so much fun that it gave me a great energy.

Q: What do you think is the turning point or one crystallization of your work in 2PM?

WY: It’s hard to choose one, but if I need to answer, I think it would be the moment I stood on the stage during my solo.

Q: The most difficult music video you did since debut?

WY: Heartbeat. We got injured a lot because there were many acrobatic moves.

Q: The concert that left the strongest impression on you?

WY: Our first concert in Seoul and Busan after debuting in Korea as 2PM.

Q: Instance that gave the most outburst of laughter in the past 8 years?

WY: When I’m with the members, I’m always laughing because it’s full of fun with them.

Q: Most embarrassing moment in the past 8 years?

WY: When I see myself looking fat whenever I check the screen during magazine photoshoots or MV recordings. As an idol, it’s important to control your weight. That’s why when I see myself looking fat, I would regret that perhaps my self-management was not enough.

Q: Most touching thing you had in the past 8 years?

WY: It’s difficult to give just one. I have a mountain of moments where I get touched.

Q: If you could give a reward to yourself for working hard until now, what would it be?

WY: Anywhere is fine with me. I just want to travel.

Q: 8 years have passed. What do you think are the part that has changed and will not change in 2PM?

WY: What has changed is our teamwork. It became even better. What I think will not change is the same with my previous answer. The fact that our teamwork is good will not change.

Q: Do you have any new dream or goal right now?

WY: As a 2PM member, as well as for myself, I want to more broaden my scope of music. In order to do that, I want to work harder than ever towards music.

WY: A present from heaven.

WY: I think they are me, myself.

Q: Your thoughts and aspirations for the Tokyo Dome concert in October

WY: We are in the midst of preparations right now. I want it to be a very great and awesome concert. I want to do our best to make it a concert that not only the fans but also we, the staff and all people can think of it as “the best concert”.

Q. Looking back to the feeling when you debuted, what was it like?

CS: After our producer J.Y. Park-san told me, “I won’t let you debut if you can’t do acrobatics”, I recall that I thoroughly prepared for it. The debut was held at a TV station in Korea, MNET. In one of its program entitled “M! Countdown”, I can remember that I desperately did stretching because I had to do hard acrobatics. I can also remember the date which was Thursday, September 4. (laughs)

Q. Tell us your impression when you first met the members

CS:

JUN. K → Right after I entered as a trainee, Jun. K-san came up to me and said, “I want you to listen to my song” then started singing suddenly in front of me. I couldn’t read the situation so I just responded, “It’s good”.

NICHKHUN → He was extremely timid with strangers, so it was difficult to get along with him in the beginning. But it’s not like that anymore now.

TAECYEON → Whether he was a study nerd or a diligent one, he looked smart.

WOOYOUNG → I have an impression of him that we always eat something together during our trainee period. Because of that, both of us would gain weight and be worried, “Even though we practiced this hard, I wonder why we get fat”.

JUNHO → We became good friends in a show called “Superstar Survival” where we both appeared. When I got eliminated from the show, he cried so hard for me and I thought, “He’s really a kindhearted person”.

Q. After being together for 8 years, what things did you realize that “in fact, he is like this”?

CS:

JUN. K → He’s more amiable than what I thought and he’s an obliging person. It’s just that he sulks frequently. (laughs)

NICHKHUN → In fact, he’s very manly. He’s a person of macho personality.

TAECYEON → He is someone who is not two-faced. He’s too realistic that he speaks his mind frankly to the point that other people tend to think that he is being harsh. But once you know him well, you’ll realized he’s absolutely not that kind of person but someone who is very considerate and warm-hearted.

JUNHO → He likes doing something together with friends. When Krispy Kreme donuts was established in Korea, we went twice in one day to eat together. We only eat one in every visit but we do it everyday.

WOOYOUNG → He is clear with his like and dislikes. His ideas are extraordinarily a lot. He has ideas that a person can’t conceive, but it’s just that he can’t put it together…. (laughs)

Q. What did you think about being called “beastly idols”?

CS: I was really glad. Because it was a catchphrase that we didn’t ask to be called. It came naturally and we were called that.

Q: Which part of you do you think has improved the most since debut days?

CS: My performance on stage. We can now enjoy ourselves on the stage and have a good time. You can really compare if we look back to ourselves in the old days. That’s why I think the part that improved the most is that we are now able to have fun because we learned to be comfortable.

Q: On the contrary, which part of you has deteriorated? (laughs)

CS: My original resolution!? (laughs) Hahahahaha! Just kidding!

Q: Which part of you has changed the most physically since debut days?

CS: It hasn’t changed. There was a time when I had to build up my body as hard as I could to gain muscles. But now, it has returned to my body like in the debut days. That’s why I think it hasn’t changed.

Q: When you debuted, were you able to imagine how you all have become now?

CS: I absolutely was not able to imagine it. Back in the old days, all we had to do was to finish the schedule we have in front of us. We were in a condition where we didn’t know what would happen the next day. So to even think of our future selves was something I was unable to do.

Q: If you could greet yourself back in the debut days, what will you say?

CS: “If you’re going to do something, just keep doing it as it is.” But in reality, I wouldn’t want to say anything to my old self. I am immensely contented with my present self so if I say something to my past self, I think I wouldn’t be what I am today.

Q: If you were not a 2PM member, what do you think you would have become now?

CS: Martial artist. I liked moving my body, so I think I would be in that kind of field.

Q: What did you feel when you debuted in Japan?

CS: On our debut day in Japan, we did three showcases. I feared if we could really fill up the venue three times. At the same time, I was also looking forward to meet new fans. I felt so many various emotions that I froze up with nervousness that day.

Q: What is the happiest and most enjoyable thing when doing activities in Japan?

CS: The Japanese activities itself are all the things I’m am happy about. Giving only one thing is hard. Various filming, promotion activities, concerts and the like. The process of working hard together with the staff to create something is very fun as well. That’s why for me, every single activity is something I am glad about.

Q: On the contrary, what was the hardest thing?

CS: After appearing in the JYP NATION concert, I had to do rehearsals right away around 2 in the morning, then participate in a TV program in the morning. Without any sleep, I had to do another work after that. During that time, it was really difficult for me

Q: A song you’ve released here that has the most memories from Japan?

CS: “I’m your man.” Our catchphrase was ‘beast idols’ but our debut single “Take Off” had a different image. Rather than seeming like idols, I think ‘beast idols’ has the presence to create an adult atmosphere. The song that matches that image is our second single “I’m your man”. That’s the reason why I chose it.

Q: With whom did you have the most unforgettable encounter in Japan?

CS: My co-stars in “Kaito Royale” (TBS), which is the first drama I appeared in Japan. At the shooting sites in Korea, making friends with your fellow actors results to working well together which also helps on acting performance. That’s why you make efforts to be friendly at the shooting site. I thought of doing it when I’m in Japan as well so I asked, “Let’s have even a dinner after the filming” and invited them. I can still remember that I got surprised when everyone said, “It’s our first time having a meal with the co-stars in private”. Same as me, it was also my first time to meet Japanese actors in private. To think that it was their first time as well is…

Q: When you debuted in Japan, what Japanese dish were you into? → Did it change now?

CS: Ramen. When I ate it for the first time, it was too delicious that I was startled. (But it seems that Wooyoung was more startled than me that he suddenly finished off 3 bowls!) → It hasn’t changed even now.

Q: What remained in your heart from your solo activities?

CS: The movie that I filmed March of last year, which is “Wasureyuki”. Except for me and the director, everyone was Japanese, so we communicated in Japanese. Thanks to that, my Japanese skills improved too. There was a time when the director and I were the only ones left, but even before we noticed it, we were conversing in Japanese. I remember that I told him, “It’s just the both of us but what are we doing! (laughs)” I guess it was to that point we were totally immersed in what we were doing.

Q: What do you think is the turning point or one crystallization of your work in 2PM?

CS: Personally, it’s the performances adopted from modern dance which I show in my solo stages during the concerts. I think this made me produce my own color that is different from my members.

Q: The most difficult music video you did since debut?

CS: “Midaretemina”. Usually, we show a lot of acrobatic dances, but for this song, it’s a performance where we can enjoy while having fun, so I expected that it’ll be an easy one. However, enjoying while having fun was surprisingly tough too. (laughs)

Q: The concert that left the strongest impression on you?

CS: Tokyo Dome concert. Ever since our debut in Japan, a concert in Tokyo Dome had always been one of our goals. When it was decided, it didn’t sink in right away. Actually, I wondered if we can really fill up such a large venue. I had that kind of doubt. But the moment the curtains fell in the opening, I was taken aback to see a full house right before my eyes. Thinking how this big crowd can enter……. It felt like as if I saw a whole new world.

Q: Instance that gave the most outburst of laughter in the past 8 years?

CS: Since I always laugh when I’m together with my members, it’s difficult to give just one answer.

Q: Most embarrassing moment in the past 8 years?

CS: When I sang Bi-san’s “Love Song” for my solo stage in a concert. The time to change clothes was too short that the standby got delayed. Because of that, I wasn’t able to concentrate. I got the lyrics and choreography all wrong. It was very embarrassing.

Q: Most touching thing you had in the past 8 years?

CS: The last day of our 2-day concert in Tokyo Dome. After the encore finished, the camera showed the members’ faces one by one on the screen. Whenever someone’s face was shown, the whole crowd would shout that member’s name. From the moment I heard those cheers until we left the stage, I was crying nonstop. I will never forget how I was moved that day.

Q: If you could give a reward to yourself for working hard until now, what would it be?

CS: Strap hole sticker? (laughs) I don’t know. Once in a while, I give a reward to myself. There’s nothing in particular.

Q: 8 years have passed. What do you think are the part that has changed and will not change in 2PM?

CS: What has changed is our quality as an artist. We now do songwriting. And our level of participation when doing concerts and releasing albums has changed. What will not change is the ambition and resolution as a 2PM member.

Q: Do you have any new dream or goal right now?

CS: To show my own color. I realized that it’s important to show your individual color when doing solo activities too. Also, as 2PM, when the time comes and all of the members are complete again, I think we’ll be given a task to plan what kind of activities we are going to do.

Q: A few words to express your thoughts to fans that have been with you for 8 years

CS: For a period of time, we may not be able to meet. I know it’s unreasonable to say “Don’t ever change” but I just want to tell you “Don’t forget”.

Q: For you, what is 2PM?

CS: I can’t describe it in few words. From when I was a young until I became an adult, that period where I pondered the most over my own life, I spent it as a 2PM member. For that very reason, as much as 2PM are someone who exists naturally for me, they are also someone who I can’t be without. That’s why their existence is something I can’t sum up in just few words.

Q: Your thoughts and aspirations for the Tokyo Dome concert in October

CS: Though it hasn’t sunk in yet, I want to make it as a great stage. I want to reminisce the old memories and show a performance of what we have gathered and gained until now. I have this strong thoughts of making it to a concert that we won’t regret.

JK: I really had a hard time. I spent a 4 year period of being a trainee before I debuted. During that period, the discussion about my debut came up several times, but I would feel down every time it was drifting away. As the chance would appear, I came to be scared of it. That’s why when I was able to debut as 2PM, I was truly happy.

Q. Tell us your impression when you first met the members

JK:

NICHKHUN → I thought “He’s very handsome~”

TAECYEON → I thought he was older than me. I was born early (between January 1st and April 1st) so he’s actually a year younger than me, but it feels like he’s the same age as me.

WOOYOUNG → I felt a sense of affinity because he’s the kid that is closest to my hometown.

JUNHO → I thought “He’s really passionate~”

CHANSUNG → I got the feeling that he could be like an actor.

Q. After being together for 8 years, what things did you realize that “In fact, he is like this”?

JK:

NICHKHUN → A very kind person.

TAECYEON → I wonder why we became as if we are the same age. (laughs)

WOOYOUNG → At first, he looked ordinary to me, but now, he has the aura of an entertainer.

JUNHO → His abilities really developed.

CHANSUNG → His musicianship really developed.

Q. What did you think about being called “beastly idols”?

JK: At that time, the name “beastly idols” had an impact, so it was something I am grateful for.

Q: Which part of you do you think has improved the most since debut days?

JK: I think it gave me a breathing room. Other than that, I learned to live in a positive way, become thoughtful and improve my music.

Q: On the contrary, which part of you has deteriorated? (laughs)

JK: The time I am seeing my family. I feel very sorry because I couldn’t see them frequently.

Q: Which part of you has changed the most physically since debut days?

JK: When this year started, I began to exercise and be healthier than before. My stamina also increased.

Q: When you debuted, were you able to imagine how you all have become now?

JK: During the debut days, I used to think that I knew everything I should know in this world. And I’m regretting thinking that way. Afterwards, I went through various experiences and realized that there are really a lot of things you will learn from life. In a collection of poems, there is a phrase that says, “If I just knew the things I know now back then..” That is exactly how I feel. That’s why I want to tell to my old self “You can’t ignore experience and time!”

Q: If you could greet yourself back in the debut days, what will you say?

JK: Not in a negative meaning, but I would want to say “Look more around you!” I used to think I lived a very earnest and self-righteous life, but I hope I was more sensible to look where I was going. Not just working very hard while only looking forward. Even if the people around you says “That is not the right path”, don’t agree and regard it as like that. I believe that you should try to broaden your sight because you can gain something even in such paths

Q: If you were not a 2PM member, what do you think you would have become now?

JK: I’ll probably be selling tteokbokki. (laughs)

Q: What did you feel when you debuted in Japan?

JK: It was very mysterious to know that there are people who love us this much even in Japan.

Q: What is the happiest and most enjoyable thing when doing activities in Japan?

JK: Receiving great love as 2PM. And being able to release a solo album.

Q: On the contrary, what was the hardest thing?

JK: Even though I usually go to Tokyo, I still don’t know where I am most of the time.

Q: A song you’ve released here that has the most memories from Japan?

JK: I will never forget “Hanarete itemo (Even If We Are Apart)” Everyone sang it together in Budokan; my tears were about to fall.

Q: With whom did you have the most unforgettable encounter in Japan?

JK: Shofukutei Tsurube-san who sends us a lot of food during concerts. (laughs) Also, music writer Tanaka-san who always looks forward to our music and supports us. Thanks to him, the songs that we released get to be widely known in Japan

Q: When you debuted in Japan, what Japanese dish were you into? → Did it change now?

JK: The ice cream in Japan is really delicious.

Q: What remained in your heart from your solo activities?

JK: When I released my first solo album. I was able to do the music I want and a lot of people showed their love for it. I was moved immensely.

Q: What do you think is the turning point or one crystallization of your work in 2PM?

JK: All of our activities until now. As 2PM, there were really many things that happened. But since the members are like a family to me, they made my 20’s a wonderful period of my life.

Q: The most difficult music video you did since debut?

JK: “Without U”. We had to keep on filming it in the rain, so it was very cold.

Q: The concert that left the strongest impression on you?

JK: The Tokyo Dome concert… I can still vividly remember it even now. It was my first time experiencing feeling overwhelmed because the audience was very big. It was a moment where I felt extremely moved. Then, I will also not forget our first concert in Korea.

Q: Instance that gave the most outburst of laughter in the past 8 years?

JK: There are very many things, but there are also a lot of things I can’t say. (laughs) We are in a relationship where we can know what the other is feeling just by looking at each other’s face. So if someone is looking tired, someone will make him laugh. When I’m with my fellow members, they always make me laugh.

Q: Most embarrassing moment in the past 8 years?

JK: When I change my outfit on stage, I sometimes forget to close my zipper…..

Q: Most touching thing you had in the past 8 years?

JK: When sales of the single reached number 1 spot for the first time.

Q: If you could give a reward to yourself for working hard until now, what would it be?

JK: Take a vacation to Switzerland with my family. For a long time, I wanted to try going to Switzerland even just once.

Q: 8 years have passed. What do you think are the part that has changed and will not change in 2PM?

JK: I think 2PM’s teamwork didn’t change for the past 8 years. What has changed is that, aside from me, everyone is growing old. I am young forever! (laughs)

Q: Do you have any new dream or goal right now?

JK: To do activities as 2PM. In the near future, I won’t be able to do activities as a 2PM member for the meantime, but my goal is to gather all members right away and do activities again. As for my personal goal, I want to compose a lot more so that my music will disseminate more.

JK: The reason why I live. That is the fans for me.

JH: I’m finally going to stand up on the stage I have been dreaming about….

The touching moment of going up on the stage for the first time and they joy of starting activities as a singer. The feeling of exaltation was overflowing so it didn’t feel real.

JH:

JUN. K → He produced a very sweet atmosphere.

NICHKHUN → My impression was “Ah~ He’s a foreigner”

TAECYEON → Full of confidence.

WOOYOUNG → Unidentified. (laughs) Because when I woke up one morning, he suddenly entered our dorm.

CHANSUNG → I thought he’s an elder brother at first. So when I heard we’re the same age, I was surprised.

Q. After being together for 8 years, what things did you realize that “in fact, he is like this”?

JH: Same with my first impression on everyone. Just like what I thought, Chansung is an elder brother-like. (laughs)

Q. What did you think about being called “beastly idols”?

JH: Very satisfied because we were able to create such an icon. The only disappointment is that the impact of the word “beast” was so strong that I think we barely had chance to emphasize our musicianship in the beginning.

Q: Which part of you do you think has improved the most since debut days?

JH: I haven’t even tried thinking about it.

Q: On the contrary, which part of you has deteriorated? (laughs)

JH: Nothing as well. My attitude never changed in our debut days and even now. Of course, the dream that I had and the reality were kind of different, but I consider it as a change for a better direction as well.

Q: Which part of you has changed the most physically since debut days?

JH: Through my activities as an entertainer, I’ve undergone “camera manipulation” which helped me to improve my presentation techniques. It doesn’t mean something changed in my body. It’s just that I learned to know whether I look the best in any angle I’m being taken.

Q: When you debuted, were you able to imagine how you all have become now?

JH: In those days, I was thinking that we would go well. It’s not that I was able to imagine specifically how we are right now, but I believed that we would do well. It used to be nothing but hardships, so I never thought that it would be this difficult. (laughs)

Q: If you could greet yourself back in the debut days, what will you say?

JH: “Pull yourself together.” Back in the debut days, we were so busy that I was absorbed in what I was doing at that time. But I have now made time to reflect on myself. Thinking about it, I was in my limit in those days that I couldn’t think of anything and I feel sorry for being like that before.

Q: If you were not a 2PM member, what do you think you would have become now?

JH: I can’t even imagine. I’m very glad that I’m in 2PM.

Q: What did you feel when you debuted in Japan?

JH: I found it very funny that our first press conference was held at exactly 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Q: What is the happiest and most enjoyable thing when doing activities in Japan?

JH: Our Tokyo Dome concert and when the arena tour started after our Zepp tour finished. That was the time it hit me that our full-scale tours are about to start and I felt happy. It was exciting to eat the local delicacies in every places during the tour as well. Our first visit in Hokkaido was very unforgettable because its winter was so beautiful.

Q: On the contrary, what was the hardest thing?

JH: Nothing in particular.

Q: A song you’ve released here that has the most memories from Japan?

JH: “Take Off” is the most memorable one. To be honest, I was somewhat embarrassed with the concept of “Take Off” at that time. We made our debut as beastly idols in Korea, but the image for “Take Off” was completely different. I was worried if it would be fine to be our first song in Japan. On the other hand, I found it amusing at the same time.

Q: With whom did you have the most unforgettable encounter in Japan?

JH: I am grateful to Shofukutei Tsurube-san who sends us food and sweets whenever we have tours. (laughs) I admire him for not losing the attitude of being devoted for the sake of someone. Also, in one of the broadcast of Akashiya Sanma-san MC’s “Anata ni aitai Special” (TBS) in 2012, it was a great honor to be mentioned by Watanabe Naomi-san saying she wanted to meet me. As well as the guests who appeared in my regular show “SAY YES (TOKYO MX)”, everyone left a strong impression on me. There are a lot of people whom I want to give thanks to…

Q: When you debuted in Japan, what Japanese dish were you into? → Did it change now?

JH: Ramen → Still the same even now.

Q: What remained in your heart from your solo activities?

JH: My solo stage in the concerts. In 2PM concerts, each one of us has a solo performance. It feels so fresh to be standing up on stage alone without any back-up of the members. Especially when I went around Tokyo Dome while singing, it made me more touched.

Q: What do you think is the turning point or one crystallization of your work in 2PM?

JH: When I underwent an operation for my shoulders, that was the turning point for me. Before that, I didn’t worry about anything and just focused on performing acrobatics. But after I injured my shoulder, I started to think about various things.

Q: The most difficult music video you did since debut?

JH: “Masquerade”. Since we have our MV recording 3 weeks after my surgery, we had to practice the choreography. It was really a hard time for me that I can’t even express it in words.

Q: The concert that left the strongest impression on you?

JH: Zepp tour left the deepest impression on me. The reason is that the distance from the audience is very near. At first, I was a bit embarrassed but as I make the best use of that close distance slowly, I learned to enjoy while breathing the same air with everyone.

Q: Instance that gave the most outburst of laughter in the past 8 years?

JH: It was not explosion of laughter. But I was the happiest when I did my solo debut “Kimi no Koe”.

Q: Most embarrassing moment in the past 8 years?

JH: When my pants got torn in Tokyo Girls Collection (laughs) We were wearing white suits that time but for some reasons, Chansung’s and my pants got torn. It was very embarrassing.

Q: Most touching thing you had in the past 8 years?

JH: Whenever we do concerts, I always get moved. After such long period of time, they still give us love, be on our side and stay as our fans. When I feel those, the feeling of being thankful and being deeply moved emotionally gush out.

Q: If you could give a reward to yourself for working hard until now, what would it be?

JH: Rest. I want to give a reward to the members as well. Golf set for Nichkhun-san, a golf set too for Chansung-san, a vacation too for Taecyeon-san, a lot more opportunities to go up on stage for Jun. K-san and I want to give an LP to Wooyoung-san. (laughs)

Q: 8 years have passed. What do you think are the part that has changed and will not change in 2PM?

JH: I want to give “teamwork” as an answer for both questions. Teamwork used to be all kinds of form. Despite being like that, there were still conflicts and hesitations going through our way. After overcoming it, I think it led us to a better direction. And now, I feel that we have the best teamwork.

Q: Do you have any new dream or goal right now?

JH: As a 2PM member, my goal is to be together with everyone forever. While my goal for myself is to continue my activities for a long time. Anyway, my biggest goal is to continue my present work for a long period of time.

Q: A few words to express your thoughts to fans that have been with you for 8 years

JH: All I can say is the words “Thank you”. I feel very happy and grateful to have fans who kept on supporting us for these 8 long years. I find it really amazing to spend a long period of time together, such as 10 years.

Q: For you, what is 2PM?

JH: If there is no 2PM, there is no me.

Q: Your thoughts and aspirations for the Tokyo Dome concert in October

JH: While there is the feeling of excitement, there is also the feeling of sadness. Nevertheless, I want to do my best to achieve a great success together with the fans.

Making Report

Today’s photoshoot was held in a studio at Gangnam District, Seoul. The members arrived with a relaxed atmosphere while smiling, despite starting very early in the morning. We got to do the solo photoshoot and interview from the member who finished changing his clothes first.

We started from Nichkhun. Each time we meet, his aura as a celebrity with humble character that didn’t change ever since he debuted, keeps on increasing. He chose a flower as a prop, not to mention a dry one. However, it’s strange that we could see it as a sweet flower just because Nichkhun was holding it.

Next one was Junho. At first, he was blushing a little bit for wearing a skirt as an outfit which he is not used to. But once he lay down in the studio, he gave off a sudden sexy mood. He looks good no matter what kind of pose he does. Perhaps it’s because of his sturdy physique and sharpness of intuition from his natural reflexes.

As expected, Jun. K who is sensitive as an artist, pays attention to his surroundings like an eldest one while proceeding with the photoshoot at the same time. He must have been totally exhausted from doing his Korean solo debut live few days ago, but he didn’t let us feel any slightest sign of it and showed off his well-sharpened charms coolly.

While the youngest one, Chansung, feels comfortable preserving his personal space, he still displayed his distinctive nervousness and sensuality today as well. We are wondering whether his carefree aura that no one can disturb is from his animalistic instinct or freedom of a maknae.

Wooyoung, who has both the nature of a young boy and the countenance of an adult. As his body movements are flexible, he performed agile motions like a cat. While following the voice of the cameraman, he would toss the flower up several times to take the pose. His earnestness was impressive.

Lastly, Taecyeon, who was partially late due to drama filming. He communicates closely with the cameraman then he would show bewitching movements using water as his props. Nothing has changed with his natural manliness and broad-mindedness, but once we went to the interview, he changed completely and showed expressions like a mischievous junior high school student. His cuteness was powerful as well.

In the end was the group photo. Even without anyone from them is talking, they would match their breathing with the voice saying “Get ready now”. Although it was a tight photoshoot, everything went smoothly. There is no mistake that it’s all because of their teamwork.

A place where Irish coffee and turtles can help you unwind!?

These two frequently drive around Seoul. Nichkhun, who extremely likes driving, leaves at 5am for his early morning golf. While Wooyoung said, “I don’t like going to a place so distant. I usually go to art exhibitions held within the city or watch concerts or meet up with friends”― an indication that he enjoys the culture of life in Seoul to the fullest while he drives around the city. However, the thing about here in Apgujeong only is that “It has been a familiar place since our trainee days because it’s near our company, and it’s also near the Korean language school that I used to attend. There’s a lot of delicious restaurants that I still often go to even now,” said Nichkhun. We went to “Café Kudeta” per his recommendation. Well, let’s GO!

"What I like to order from the menu is the Kudeta Irish coffee. The ratio of the coffee that is somewhat strong and the condensed milk mixed to it is just perfect. I also like the half-baked castella cake from the menu,” Nichkhun stated while smiling. “Here also serves as a place where turtles can make you relax,” added by Wooyoung while he peeks inside the cage. Wooyoung expressed “I think what I like from the menu is water. I really like water.” Then Nichkhun responded with “You gained weight because of water, right?” Wooyoung said while laughing incessantly, “Right! Right! I got fat here and here...” It was a hot afternoon in Seoul when the interview took place. When the crew was dripping with sweat while taking the interview, Nichkhun turned off the lights that were generating the heat and Wooyoung faces the ventilation fan to our direction ― kind considerations one after another from them.

Among the fans, these two who are really close friends are famous for being the healing pair. They are now living alone after moving out from their dorm, but how are they doing recently? While laughing together...

[NK] We haven’t gone to this café with just the two of us, right? [WY] We haven’t (laughs) [NK] Aside from the fact that we have work, men don’t go to café during the day with just the two of them [WY] I feel like Nichkhun-san is an older brother living in the same city who I know veee~ry well [NK] Let’s treat each other well from now on too.

When they were asked what has changed ever since they started living alone, Wooyoung answered, “I used to be fine by just cleaning my own room, but now I don’t get satisfied if I don’t do the whole house. I’m tired of myself cleaning until evening. (laughs) When my time and space become free, that’s the only time I have made an environment where I can make music.” The real life in Seoul is super stoic!? The two of them nodded and said, “But not as much as Jun. K’s right now.”

A gallery with cultural atmosphere where he usually visits 

Even during concert tours, Jun. K does stoic bodybuilding... Amazing! Admirable! As they get excited for a moment, we arrived at Garosugil ― a city filled with new information. “YELLOW KORNER” is a gallery where Wooyoung often goes. It seems that he usually visits because the selection of this gallery which only has photographic pieces suits his taste. Wooyoung stated “When I look at photos of animals, I feel relaxed. That’s why there is one large sleeping lion in the bedroom at my house.” It’s a modern and stylish framed picture of a lion. When asked what room it suits, Nichkhun spoke for him for some reasons. “It’s a freestyle (laughs)” and commented, “Just like having Mickey Mouse and Christmas tree, it’s something you don’t really decide. It could be like the café a while ago. Right?”

In this connection, we tried to ask their recommended places to date in Seoul.

[WY] N Seoul Tower. While walking the mountain trail, I want to take an extensive view of the whole Seoul. It would be nice in the evening of spring or autumn. [NK] Because you have work during the day. (laughs) An evening picnic at Hangang Park would be nice too. Because of the heat of the weather right now, you would likely end up quarreling. (laughs) I think you’ll get a nice feeling while watching the lights at the bridge around October.

These two from Seoul are relaxed and somehow, they have a very pleasant vibes. They are such cute young men every time we meet.

About "DSMN"

---You will release your 4th solo mini album "DSMN" on July 20. Before asking you about your new mini album, what are your thoughts looking back on your three previous albums? "When I look back, I think there were a lot of parts that were lacking. When the album came out, I kept finding that there were parts I wasn't satisfied with and things that were unfortunate. I've continued putting out a mini album every year like this for four years now and I become aware of my past inexperience as time passes. It's not limited to music, but also dancing, jacket photos, and about everything else that was put into the albums, but I repeatedly think, 'Ah, I was so young.'"

---When producing a new album, do you listen to your past songs and redo them? "When I perform I will listen to them one by one and fix them. Furthermore, if there's a part I felt wasn't good previously, I will grab hold of it and give it a grade up while also trying to change some of the dance moves on stage or change the performance."

---When did you start production for "DSMN"? "First of all, I finished the song called 'Doku (On your mind)' in November. Full scale production started in January. Once we entered January, I produced what would become the title track for the album, 'DSMN.' The acronym stands for 'Don't Stop Me Now,' which has a theme of being released from my usual self, thirsting for freedom, and deviation."

---Why did you choose these keywords? "I think anyone would wish for freedom in their mundane daily life. However, you get chased by things in front of you and so your wish can't come true. Therefore, even if it's just for that 3 minute time frame, I wanted to express the image of people, including myself, wanting to take a breath, wanting to be free, and that's the kind of feeling I wanted to get across. But in order for it to be properly expressed, I want the fans to give it a listen and feel it for themselves."

---Wasn't your schedule strict this time with the arena tour as 2PM, filming a serial drama in Korea, and so forth? "This time I truly saw my personal limit. There were various things progressing simultaneously, which I think is how I've always been doing this work thus far, however it was an extraordinarily stronger feeling this time around."

---There was a time you filmed until morning and then went and performed in Fukuoka. "My schedule was thus: I filmed the last episode of the drama until 6:30 in the morning, went back to my house just to pick up my luggage, like that I went to the airport to fly to Fukuoka, then I rehearsed and performed. It wasn't just one day that I went to film for the drama's last episode; it was a continuation after pulling an all-nighter from the day before. I was able to do it somehow, but these days I wonder 'How did I live through that?' (laugh)."

---Honestly, do you have recollection of it? "(laugh). I got along well with both the staff and actor cast, the filming location had a good feeling, so although the drama had a severe schedule, I had a ton of fun. Not everyone might have been sane, however (laugh)."

---What is the source of your unlimited energy, Junho? "I really feel that I'm doing what I want to do and what I love to do. In actuality, if I didn't want to do it I wouldn't have to, but I feel that what I'm doing is literally 'living' for me. Though pain comes with it, I believe I'm able to keep going because it's worth doing and because it makes me happy. I started filming for a drama on my birthday in January, before that I had started album productions, and during that time truly a lot of things happened, but the time flew by rather quickly and though I thought 'What did I do, again?' in reality a lot of things had happened. I can't believe it's the month of June right now (laugh)."

---What's the secret to keeping your motivation? "I have created an image of myself as always, endlessly, standing on stage. Including in acting, I have an image of myself acting within a production. Thinking 'I want to make that image a reality!' gives me strength."

---You never have the thought that you want the inside of your head to be empty? "Of course I've thought that. I want to be removed from it, I want to be released from it -- that's why I wrote this song (laugh). I can't really drink alcohol and I don't really have any other way of reducing stress, so although I think it's important to have hobbies, I don't have hobbies. A few days ago, I appeared on a program with my 2PM members and there was a corner in which we were to talk about the hobbies of the member sitting next to us. Chansung was in deep thought trying to think of something for awhile and when nothing came to mind he asked me, 'Just what are your hobbies?!' Having a mental breakdown, I worried ' Huh? What are my hobbies,' but after thinking about it, when I lived with my parents in the past and even now, I flop down and watch movies or dramas I like, work on music, listen to music, watch over the cats, or relieve stress through exercise. However, all of these can be done inside the house. I even bought a running machine recently (laugh)."

About 2PM

---As it is the final installment of the arena tour (at the time of this interview), please tell us what you're now feeling. "I've lived the past 10 years as a singer. However, this concert became a chance for me to look back on things that have happened once again. If you add up the world tours, Asia tours, arena tours, and solo stages up to now, I think 2PM has stood on the stage more than 100 times, but despite standing on so many stages, I never once thought about it until this time around, when it suddenly hit me. To us, meeting with the fans onstage and putting on concerts is like breathing and eating -- it came naturally. However, it's really heartbreaking when I think about how the 6 of us won't be standing on stage together for awhile. At the same time, that feeling of reflection [that we won't be on stage as 6 for awhile] didn't come naturally. After thinking about that, I exhausted my resources to do my very best for each and every stage more than ever before, and compared to earlier days, I sense that I'm working harder than ever. At this arena tour, on stage Wooyoung always starts by saying 'More than before, I'm going to pour all my strength into this concert,' but it represents the feelings of all the members."

About His Private Life

---When do you feel that you are Blood Type A? In Japan it is said that Type A's are largely methodical, cautious, and attentive people. "(laugh) Hooo. That's great. It's true (laugh). When I'm methodical, I'm truly methodical, but when I'm loose, I'm really loose. However, I've become able to control the degree of how methodical or lenient I am within myself. Personally, I'll look into something thoroughly until I'm satisfied, but since there's a side of me that's a perfectionist, when I investigate something too much it will end up wearing out those around me. Therefore, I want to hold myself back a bit where I should, without investigating too much."

---It seems like the inside of your bag must be neat and tidy. "My bag? (laugh). I said there is a part of me that is methodical and a part of me that is not, but the inside of my bag is the part that's not (laugh). It's extremely masculine. My bed is extremely methodical (laugh). I want to put everything into order in my house as well as I can. However, the parts of my house are divided and I because I want to focus on my music room, I tidy that area the most. The entryway is very masculine (laugh). There hasn't been enough time so the house is still in a state of arrangement (laugh). Perhaps if I didn't have cats I could have finished arranging things, but my hands are full with taking care of them as soon as I get home. Like changing kids' diapers, I change out their litter (laugh)."

---You're not able to get out of the house, it seems. "Even if I were given time, I would end up looking after them. When I go to leave, they go to the entrance ahead of me and talk to me, saying 'nya-nya' (impersonating the cats)."

---What's the latest fashion item you bought? "The yellow hat I was wearing today. It's a super cute yellow color. Recently it seems retro fashion from the 70's to 80's era has been popular, right? There's not just that, but lately I've been challenging myself to wear primary colors."

---You're wearing an orange outfit today, too. "Carrot (laugh). This outfit was decided before Chansung could start calling me 'Carrot.' But because of Hwang Chansung, this outfit has become no big deal (laugh). It's without a doubt that I would be stuck getting called a carrot when choosing orange (laugh)."

---Now then, what perfume do you use? "I recently changed it, but it's POGOSTEMON."

---What do you wear to bed? "Please use your imagination (laugh). I tuck into bed and sleep."

---What is the fashion style you like on women for summer 2016? "(looking at mini) Wide pants are popular too, right? And loose t-shirts. I like simple fashion." (He chose for us a plain t-shirt paired with denim.)

---Do you have marriage aspirations? "Haaa-- (deep sigh). I haven't thought about it yet. My older sister recently got married. I thought she looked really happy."

---Have you become conscious of something as a result of people close to you getting married? "Rather than 'How nice, I want to [get married] too,' the feeling of 'You're getting married already?!' is stronger. Maybe because I debuted at such a young age, I don't feel like I'm as old as I am, and so I had thought that I was still very young, but more than anything I was surprised to hear that I'm of a marriageable age already."

---Many readers of mini are of the same age as you, Junho. Furthermore, there are many who support Junho while working. What does Junho think is more precious than working? "Passion. That's what I think is the most important. Even if you do a job that you love, it could be what you didn't think it was, and if it's different than what you had imagined, it could potentially cool your passion, right? 'Isn't this not how it's supposed to be?' etc. However, though it may be difficult right now, if you keep working hard in order to mature and make a better future, I believe you'll be able to come to think that the worries you had at the time were really nothing when you look back on it later, so don't forget your passion!"

---Lastly, please give a message to the readers! "Always carry your passion with you and look at mini to beautifully refine yourself!"

(laughs)] JH: If it’s in Japan, I would want to go to a hot spring and relax~ CS: If we were to gather at 2o’clock in the afternoon that would be rehearsal already, right? Q1. Origin of your name My real name is Minjun. “Min” means “gentle, be relaxed” while “Jun” means “to excel”. The meaning behind my name is “To be gentle and outstanding person” Q2. How did you become part of 2PM? When I was a high school student, I sent to the company a demo tape of me singing. It was a song of an American singer, R. Kelly. Then they told me, “There’s a contest. Would you want to try and join?” Which resulted to entering 2PM. Among the members, I’m the one who trained the longest so when the debut was decided, I was very happy. Q3. If entering 2PM is your first turning point, what would be the second? Hmmm… [(while Jun. K was thinking) TY: Isn’t it your solo debut!] That’s right! The second one is when I started doing solo activities in Japan! Q4. Q1. Origin of your name “Taecyeon” is a very rare name. I was born in the Year of Dragon around 8am (※the Hour of the Dragon). It is said that if you name people born under that star with water-related names, they’ll turn into dragons which means they will succeed in life. That’s why they named me “Taecyeon” which means “water in the pond that will continue to flow far away”. Deep meaning, right? Q2. How did you become part of 2PM? There was a show called “Superstar Survival” and I appeared in that. On the same show, Junho and the others were also there! I was ranked 12th though (laughs) Q3. If entering 2PM is your first turning point, what would be the second? It hasn’t come yet but I think it will come next year. It’s something that will certainly come. While I go through that path, I think I will also be able to see the journey I must venture Q4. Type of woman that you like I used to list down the kind of person I want to be my girlfriend. Q1. Origin of your name The kanji for “Woo” of “Wooyoung” is “福 (which means “good fortune”)” while “Young” means “eternal, forever”. It comes with a wish of “To be eternally happy/fortunate”. That’s why my name became “Wooyoung” Q2. How did you become part of 2PM? In a show called “Superstar Survival” where Junho and the others appeared, I failed during the preliminary contest! (laughs) I couldn’t even pass the regional preliminary rounds but 2 years later, for some reasons, I was in the same group with the members who made it to the top 12 back then (laughs) Q3. If entering 2PM is your first turning point, what would be the second? It hasn’t come yet. It might suddenly come tomorrow or maybe 5 years later. Even I, myself, don’t know when it will come. Q4. What is the thing you especially put a lot of efforts into preparing for this tour? I’m part of the stage production and in charge of the stage outfits this time. Since I didn’t have individual schedule before the tour, I did it not because I just wanted to kill time but it’s because I wanted to do something for 2PM. I wanted to try doing it even before but this time I finally made it happen! I want everyone to take a look of it because I demonstrated and expressed all the abilities I possess right now. Q5. Say something to yourself back in the debut days “Not bad at all~ (laughs)”

JUNHO -Profile- Born January 25, 1990. Blood type A. The first one to start solo activities in 2PM. Jam-packed Budokan for his solo concert. Recently, appearing in dramas and movies frequently. Highly regarded as an actor.

Q1. Origin of your name My parents wished “We hope he can become great and excellent that can even reach the sky” so they combined “Jun” which means “great, to excel” and “Ho” which means “sky”. And gave me this name Q2. How did you become part of 2PM? During the time when there was no audition shows that much unlike now, I joined a show called “Superstar Survival”. There was around 7000 applicants but I got the 1st place which is why I entered the group Q3. If entering 2PM is your first turning point, what would be the second? When I got injuries doing acrobatics and tumbling [TY: By ‘tumbling’ did you mean ‘turning’? That’s why it’s “turning point”? (laughs)] Ever since then, I learned to take care of my body. I think that became the trigger point. Q4. Type of woman that you like There is no such things like “conditions” when you like someone. The person I like will become my type. The most important is that I like that person. Q5. Say something to yourself back when you were a child “You haven’t changed at all!”

CHANSUNG -Profile- Born February 11, 1990. Blood type B. He’s so proficient in Japanese that he’s called “Chansung sensei (teacher)” by the members during talk sessions in concerts. Active as an actor. Leading actor in the Japanese movie “Wasureyuki” last year.

Q1. Origin of your name “Chan” has the meaning “to shine” and “Sung” means “to accomplish, to fulfill” Chansung means “to shine while achieving success” Q2. How did you become part of 2PM? I also joined the show called “Superstar Survival” where Junho and Taecyeon appeared as well. I ranked 11th which was one spot higher than Taecyeon (laughs) Q3. If entering 2PM is your first turning point, what would be the second? Being part of 2PM is rather the second turning point for me. The first turning point in my life was when I acted in a Korean sitcom drama called “Unstoppable High Kick” Q4. Type of woman that you like [JH: Chansung brings rain with him so someone who brings the sun is the one, right? (laughs)] You’re wrong. (laughs) Someone who matches me would be fine. Like our way of thinking and things like that Q5. When do you think of what to say during the MC part in concerts? I just tell what I feel that moment. When we actually do concerts, I look at the fans and sort out inside my head the things that come to my mind and that’s what I talk about. My Japanese skills is still lacking so sometimes I find it hard to perfectly express what I think of. Q6. Say something to yourself just before you become a 2PM member “I’m curious about what you were doing that time!”

JK: There are so many things that happened since our debut in Japan, right? CS: I think this happened when we just debuted. It was a live broadcast in a morning show. Despite the fact that it was already a freezing day, we had to lie down on the cold floor for the choreography of our song in the beginning. On top of that, our outfits were sleeveless! WY: I remembered! The host asked me “Aren’t you cold?” and I answered back with a smile “Not feeling cold at all!” but the truth is it was freezing cold!! Such a nostalgic memory TY: On the contrary, there are days when it’s terribly hot that we would jokingly say “It would have been good if it was raining” and then it ends up raining really hard. NK: But still a lot of fans gather. I was happy to see that. CS: Is it by any chance my fault? (laughs) JH: Wherever Chansung goes, there will always be heavy rainfall or heavy snow (laughs) To the point that the flight gets cancelled CS: There is no denying (laughs) NK: But since this is how we spend time with our Japanese fans for a long time, I feel like we get to know little by little what kind of things that could make them happy TY: Like in concerts, we could really feel their response JH: I think our concert this time is especially very important to us JK: The most important is to continue standing on stage from now on and forever, right? WY: As we gain more experience on stage, we’ll provide many different ideas and continue to improve. I think that’s how we will keep going on. CS: We’re going to sing our songs together for a long period of time NK: Us together with the fans, right? TY: Since we’ve come this far as 6 members, we should continue as 6 members from now on as well. This is the next stage that we, 2PM, are heading to and at the same time, 2PM’s goal as well.

For today’s interview, Tsurube-san prepared a carefully thought-out handwritten list of his thoughts about the songs from the album and his impressions going to 2PM’s concerts. Seeing that, the members were moved.

NK: Please let us call you “Father”! Tsurube: I’ll listen to everything that can make you happy the most. With the experiences you gained until now, I think you can manage it even without asking me. But it’ll bring us closer if we listen. JK: We are very grateful to you. Tsurube: Because I believe it’s important that you think about the person you’re talking to and find out more about them. Even in interviews, dramas, movies and stages. NK: We always do our best when preparing concerts in our own style but seeing Tsurube-san being so prepared for us like this, I’m now reflecting if I can really say that “we really did our best.” WY: Tsurube-san, which part of the concert do you think is entertaining? Tsurube: In 2PM concerts, you all talk in Japanese even without translators, right? I think that’s really amazing. You also use dialect depending which region you are. That’s impressive as well. Also, Taecyeon says a lot of unnecessary things, right? 2PM: (laughs out loud) Tsurube: Then Jun. K and Junho would try to get back, right? But sometimes, Junho would give up. 2PM: (laughs out loud) Tsurube: Taecyeon is very essential in 2PM concerts. And the thing called “incidents” in 2PM is because of the Japanese language, isn’t it? 2PM: (laughs out loud) Tsurube: I should not be a nuisance to the fans. That’s why I just quietly go whenever I go to your concerts. But when our eyes meet, I get very happy! Then at the end of the concert, you would mention my name. I get surprised! I don’t have any mic and I don’t know what I should do. (laughs) I get startled but I’m happy. I appreciate it when you keep adding more adlibs to your talk and I also appreciate the kindness of all members to make everyone enjoy the concert. While watching 2PM’s stage, I admire so much how each member’s personality comes out really well. It’s fun to see that. When you start singing, you give it all. When there are “incidents,” it’s amusing. That is what we call “entertainment.” JK: I am deeply moved to see how you feel a lot of different things while watching our concert. Tsurube: 3 hours.. rather than watching without thinking anything, I watch and learn from different situations and even from your weird conversations.  Being professional is the capability of coping with “incidents.” That’s why I came up with “Sujinashi,” a variety show in TBS where we make an impromptu drama with an actor. Acting with no rules but there’s a theme. Last time we did “Two persons in a store window.” From the viewers’ request, the actress would come out from the audience while I start from standing in front of the store window. That actress came up on the stage from the audience seat while on a state of being totally blind and hit me gently. She was still a young actress but I was surprised. I was interviewed by that person while performing “Sujinashi.” You must enjoy the stage! Enjoying the stage is absolutely important. Entertainment is having fun and being loved. 

CS: Given this opportunity, I have something to ask to Tsurube-san. Please tell us the key of doing activities in various genre such as being a host, actor and comic storyteller. Tsurube: 2PM members are amazing, so someone like me has nothing to say. But for me, what I value is having a mindset of “If you have reached your goal, that’s just the beginning.” For example, if 2PM’s album ranked no. 1, that’s the starting point. You aim much higher. I started doing comic storytelling at the age of 50. Since comic storytelling is floundering, my seniors told me to do it. I did it in a huge venue and made it to the point where you can’t get tickets anymore. You may think that storytelling is just coming out from gilded folding screens and doing it, but you spend a great amount of money on stage. So it’s important to make the people who come and watch it realize that. I want to reform the storytelling. When I reach the peak I’m aiming for, I’ll head for the next step. I just keep doing that same cycle. That’s why it goes on forever. JH: I want to learn from your genuine attitude and passion when it comes to work. Tsurube: I don’t know if you have this saying in Korea, but here in Japan we have this idiom “fall into lap,” which means having an opportunity you didn’t expect. But if you don’t work hard until that opportunity comes, it won’t come. There are times when it only comes to people who work hard for it. That’s how I think of it. CS: I try not to regret my choices, even if it brings a not-so-good result to myself. I fear and worry about some things, but after hearing Tsurube-san, I want to do my best not to have any regrets with my own choices. I feel like I gained some courage. Tsurube: If I were to have two options, I choose the more difficult one. There’s an idiom in Japanese, “After a storm comes a calm.” There’s something definitely better after every hardship. Even if you encounter several troubles, you are heading to a much better direction in the end. It’s something I have realized while living for 64 years. WY: Do you have any advice for us who are still in our 20’s? Tsurube: My 20’s was a complete mess (laughs) 2PM: (laughs) Tsurube: But for some reasons, people think of me as a very diligent man. I wonder why it has become like that. Maybe because I’ve never betrayed someone. TY: I heard that your youth is like Junho’s. Is that true? Tsurube: That would be rude to Junho. (laughs) JH: No~ no~ (laughs) Tsurube: My son is like Junho though. Me -> my son -> Junho NK: I’ve once worked with your son in a drama. Tsurube: Oh, that’s right! In a show “Kazoku ni Kanpai” (Salute to Families) in NHK, I met someone by chance who has a photo of me during my high school days. In that picture, I look like Junho. TY: In conclusion, Tsurube-san looks like Junho! (laughs) After 40 years, Junho will become Tsurube-san! NK: Can I also ask a question? Tsurube: Oh, Nichkhun~ Do you have any? NK: Tsurube-san who is full of curiosity, what is your secret to keep on smiling all the time? Tsurube: Youth is having interest in various stuff. Also, it might be different since all of you are good-looking, but for me, it’s better to laugh. When I was having a photoshoot for a front cover of a magazine, the photographer tried to bring out a different expression of me than my usual one. He took a lot of shots of my grim expression. Seriously a lot! But in the end, I asked “Can I smile?” He took only one photo of me smiling. And that is the one we used. 2PM: (laughs out loud) TY: Aahh~ There are times like that, isn’t it? I totally understand! JH: I know that you are very busy. How do you take care of your health? Tsurube: No matter how tiring it is, I practice properly for my storytelling. I’m doing a classical comic story entitled “Rakuda” for 1 hour and 20 minutes the day after tomorrow. When I was about to sleep last night, I felt uneasy, so I practiced one more time. That’s how I manage my own health. JK: I am reflecting upon that right now Tsurube: If I had to dance just like what you do, I can’t do that. You all sing, dance and speak in Japanese. Even if I were told to do storytelling in Korean, I wouldn’t be able to do it. Absolutely impossible. One of my pupils does storytelling in Korean. He lives in Japan so originally, he can’t really speak the Korean language well. But since that is the language of his native country, I told him to learn to speak it. And now, he can speak in Korean.

Tsurube: It was the year 1980 when I first went to Korea. They treated me very well. Though it’s a neighboring country, it feels different to actually go there. I’m still good friends with the person from Korea University who helped me with interpreting. The Koreans that I met with my own eyes are all wonderful people. When it comes to getting along with someone from another country, I think it will be hard to do if you don’t open yourself up especially because there are things like language barrier. That’s also why I send some gifts in 2PM’s dressing room. I find it fun when I think of what Japanese food does 2PM like to eat. I think of things like “When they come to Hokkaido, I’ll send them this.” Recently, I found out that Jun. K likes sushi, so from takoyaki, I changed it to sushi. (laughs) I do this because I like doing it. I do this with my whole heart because I want to get along with all of you, and I also want you to know that Japanese are like this. JK: We are always very grateful to you. Tsurube: Since there is a military service in Korea, I think Jun. K and Taecyeon are about to go. After coming back from the army, I would want to see 2PM again standing on stage. (Editor’s note: It was announced that “GALAXY OF 2PM” Arena Tour which started from April 23 would be temporarily the last tour with 6 members.) Even though you won’t be on stage for about 2 years, won’t there be a new strength once you come back? Being together as 6 means being extremely strong. Stronger than being alone. Each one of you is strong by himself as well. But when united, it’s very powerful because it releases a different strength. That’s how 2PM was formed. I think it would be a waste if you don’t continue it for a long time. TY: It’s making me sad little by little……… JK: As a matter of fact, what you have just said is what I am thinking about the most right now. Tsurube: Although the “height” of popularity is also important, the “length” is much more important in the world of show business. It’s about how you last long. JH: Today, for me and also for everyone else, we are really glad that we could meet Tsurube-san during this essential time. My dream is to continue doing this job for as long as I can. After listening to Tsurube-san, I’ve made a new goal. WY: We don’t often get opportunities like this. So today has become a precious gift to all of us. Thank you very much.
