I. My mother envies me for feeling so much but all my life I have been reeling from the bomb. II. There are trees caught in the blast still standing so I cried in the library and thought of her. III. My mother never taught me to be hard and I might have thanked her if not for the radiation. IV. I envy her walls, her hardness, her strength, our family has always been nuclear but her skin is made of lead. V. They said nothing would grow for seventy-five years but the next spring the earth turned green I pray I will do the same.
