you can see morrible starting to panic when glinda shows her that the wizard is leaving, and she’s panicking bc her boss is gone. deep down both her and the wizard were pathetic little bullies which is why she freaked out when she realised her victim was about to take her power away from her but the wizard was very much still the mastermind behind it all.

Late Valentines post (it’s like 2am rn), I wanted to draw my Wicked ships even if they’re kinda weird…

Any thoughts on an alternate universe for that?

I have! Its probably my favorite Wicked AU because I actually think Oscar would legitimately try to be a good dad (actual results would vary). I think in this he would pop back to Munchkinland and see Elphaba as a baby and go “Oh dang” but come up with some excuse that ‘magic’ had been done to create an heir to Oz and Elena had been found “worthy” and now he’d take his heir and compensate them.

I like the idea of Elphie and Glalinda meeting as kids at some high society function and Galinda instantly gluing herself to Elphaba’s side and declaring herself her Bestest Friend.

Madam Morrible of course is there and still acting in a motherly role to Elphaba, but even more so as she’s basically helping raise (mold) her. (Madame Morrible in my mind doesn’t actually care for anybody, except for how she can use them for her own ends. Any and all affection can be turned in and off at the drop of a hat).

Elphaba grows up pretty much becoming Oz’s new de facto fairy princess/symbol of the Wizard’s right to rule. Though in this world she has doubts about her ability to live up to all the promises that the Wizard and Morrible make to the pop,e, as she sees from behind the scenes that things aren’t as wonderful as they appear, though she doesn’t know the full length of the power abuses yet.

I think she does still go to Shiz as she would want to have some sort of normal school experience and get to see more of Oz, and Oscar wanting to keep her safe. Shiz is a good compromise, with Madame Morrible being there. At Shiz’s she’d still be roommates with Galinda—with a lot more space, as this time it’s Galinda moving into her private suite at Elphie’s insistence. She’d make friends with Fiyero and Boq, (I’m still trying to figure out what to do with Nessa). She also makes friends with Dr Dillamund and is horrified when he’s dragged off, and then whole bit with the lion cub. She’s the determined to write to her father and find out what’s going on. She’s never forgotten the kindness DulceyBear showed her as a child, and always liked Animals ever since. (Something Morrible knows and so has worked to keep Elphaba unaware of the worst of her plans).

Ultimately I feel like this culminates in a scene that’s a mix of Elphaba finding the caged animals in part 2 and Moses discovering the slaughter of the Herbrew babies in Prince of Egypt, with Elphaba begging her father to assure her he didn’t know about this, and then denouncing him and running off. This time though Oscar isn’t willing to villainize his own daughter, and Morrible amps up the Anti-Animal stuff by saying they’ve kidnapped the Heir.

Meanwhile Galinda and Fiyero (who were left at Shiz as Elphaba didn’t think she’d need backup to talk to her dad) are working together to try and find Elphaba and navigate the mess that Shiz has turned into. I think they’re still a thing in this, but since they’re not getting pulled into being figure heads in this , they have more space to think and both go off to join Elphaba sooner, and they all three get together.

A brain? No. He couldn’t even do the “oh this powerful green woman’s age = time since I last saw a woman and gave her a mysterious magical green beverage + 9 months” math.

A heart? Don’t make me laugh. Elphaba pleads with him multiple times to care more about the Animals than his own power and he remains unmoved, he has no problem killing Nessarose to get to Elphaba, and honestly, if I were to list all the reasons the Wizard doesn’t have a heart, we’d be here all day.

Courage? He spends his days hidden behind microphones, tricks, and illusions. Even when he regrets his actions in the musical, he doesn’t even have the courage to try to clear his daughter’s name or admit to his crimes.

Throughout history regime changes happen in a few ways, violently overthrowing a dictator in which the next leader tends to also be a dictator, killing a leader (usually a king/queen/monarch/) and taking their place, revolution in which many people work to overthrow a government and create a new government, a political takeover, voting, and wars.

The main issue is that once Elphaba took the grimmerie, she became public enemy #1. This relegates her to one option which is violently overthrowing the regime and taking over. However she is hated by the majority of Oz which would likely revolt against her because she killed their “dear wizard”. She is powerful enough to subdue them but that would turn her into a dictator.

None of the other options would work because she lacks the support of the many. The wizard is loved by all of Oz and it seems like the few dissenters are the Animals who are being prosecuted (and losing their voices both literally and figuratively). That is simply not enough support to overthrow a government via revolution, coup, or voting.
