FAVORITE SONGS EDITION

This is a special edition of the music blog where I select a few of my recent favorite songs for you guys to listen to!

First, is Currents Convulsive from Pierce The Veil's debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic. This song is actually my favorite from them, and I have been listening to it for about 5 months at the time of writing this. The song (to me) is about not feeling like you want to be loved, but wanting to be loved anyway. To me, this also goes with Yeah Boy and Doll Face from the same album, which is the confidence that comes with being with your partner.

Second, coming from The Neighborhood's 'I Love You' album, is W.D.Y.W.F.M? (Stands for What Do You Want From Me?) is a song about a bad relationship from the victim's point of view. The person starts to notice that the girl he's dating is the bad person, and not him. It's also slow and calm, so it's a good song to fall asleep to.

Recently, Heat Waves has been playing because its summertime.. and off the same album is one of my favorites! This song is titled Waterfalls Coming Out Your Mouth off the album Dreamland. It has a nice chill vibe, though I don't really know what it's actually about. It has references to some popular things in there like Pepsi, Scooby Doo, and more! I recommend this song because most people know Glass Animals for Heat Waves because it was a radio hit.

UNDERRATED ARTISTS: SEPTICFLESH

Septicflesh is a death metal band that formed in Athens, Greece in the late 90s. Their music is usually slow, with heavy vocals and thick riffs. With band members Sotiris, Spiros, Christos, Kerim, and Dinos, they make the sick death metal band they are today.

What song should I listen to first?

Well, if you like something more down to heart, When All Is None is for you. It talks about being controlled by people when you are at your worst.

If you're feeling like learning about a super cool Egyptian god.. the song Anubis is for you. Literally all this song talks about is what Anubis does and how the Egyptian afterlife is like.

PUSCIFER

This one goes out to my mom, who asked for this one!

Puscifer was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1995 by Maynard James Keenan who is the lead singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle. He made the band as a fictional band, but then he states that it was his 'creative subconscious.' at the time. Keenan says that the band is more of a clothing line, since they made more clothes than music at a point in time.

You should also listen to Tool and A Perfect Circle, but those bands are for a different time. Some of Puscifer's songs touch on some pretty deep subjects, but it's a per song basis. As Keenan said, there is no theme or restriction on the band's content, which leaves that space free for what I call a mixed deck of cards.

What songs should I listen to first, and what are they about?

If you like calmer music, The Arsonist is for you. This track is from the album, Money $hot. It features a slow and calm instrumental background, with dual vocals. This song talks about stress, and making mistakes, and what they do to the people around you.

Want a more emotional feel? I suggest The Undertaker is for you! This song talks about leaving people behind, and moving on. Below is the Renholder Mix, which is a different mix, so the original is a different song. This is one of the first songs that they made.

UNDERRATED DEFTONES SONGS

We all know Deftones.. well if you don’t, they are an alternative metal band that is known for their very chill but also very hardcore music.

What’s the most underrated Deftones song publicly?

As of writing this, it is the closing track of their self titled album, Moana. (No, not the movie..)

In my opinion, these are the most underrated:

GHOST TOWN

Ghost Town is a very unique band, and an odd mix of genres. They mix EDM, pop and screamo together in a unique mix! They stand at about 270,000 monthly listeners.

What songs should I listen to first?

If you’re more into calmer music, Black Moon is one of their more quiet songs. This song talks about desire, I’m pretty sure.

If you like more heavy music, I suggest Dr. Doctor. This song talks about not wanting to feel like nothing in your skin. The repeating line is “I’m not a waste.”, which goes further to show that this is a song about not wanting to feel like a disappointment.

PERSONAL FAVORITE: Game Freak

This song talks about a girl who breaks boys’ hearts. Not cool, but the song isn’t just that. It talks about desire, as well as the people who are affected by this girl’s actions.

MACHINE HEAD

Machine Head is a heavy metal band from California that commonly makes songs that have “murderous riffs”. They just released a new album called Of Kingdom and Crown recently.

Personal Favorites:

SLAUGHTER THE MARTYR is the longest track on the album, standing at an astonishing 10 minutes. This song talks about accepting death, and letting go.

BECØME THE FIRESTØRM is a song about coming above hate and standing up for yourself no matter what happens.

FATEHARTT (PLUS A MINI INTERVIEW)

Fatehartt is a new and upcoming artist that makes music very reminiscent to bands like My Chemical Romance. I had the honor of asking my very important question of what started their career.

My favorite song from them is “Hey, You Hear The News?” because it talks about not wanting to take the blame. It also talks about anxiety, at least in my perspective.

G: “What inspired you to make music?”

FH: “It’s kind of a weird domino effect in a way”

FH: “I initially got one of those little first act guitars when i was 11 and got put in lessons and hated it”

FH: “A year later I was on Youtube and i saw the thumbnail for My Chemical Romance’s “Sing” and was like wow this guy looks really cool. Completely not knowing this was the same band I’d heard my dad playing on the radio when i was little kid in 2006”

FH: “So i got obsessed with listening to the music, i found interviews, and watched live shows on youtube but the singular moment was when I saw a video Frank Iero throw himself into a Bob Bryar’s drumkit while they were performing in Times Square, NYC. To me that was the coolest thing I’d ever seen anybody do and made me want to play guitar which led to where I’m at now. Never looked back.”

G: That’s cool! What would you suggest for new people listening to your music?

FH: Definitely Toxic, Haunted, and 21st Century Catastrophe!

AMON AMARTH

Amon Amarth is a death metal band that focuses on Norse Mythology and Viking culture. Known for their very unique concerts and awesome merchandise.

Vengeance is My Name is a song about fighting in war and your bond with a weapon. He says, “My sword and I are one.”

Fate of Norns talks about the loss of loved ones through a warrior’s point of view.

First Kill is about a Viking’s first kill in war. He talks about how the man looked as well, and how he didn’t understand himself at the time.
