Clarke would like to say that she didn’t set out to insta-stalk Bellamy Blake, she really would. But that would be a bold-faced lie.

“How did this even happen?” Monty wonders, peering at the screenshots she saved on her phone.  “I thought Bellamy disappeared from all social media a few years ago.”

“Yeah, but I’m still following Lincoln Woods on Instagram,” Clarke says, taking a swig of her beer. “He never posts anything but his sculptures, but recently he posted a picture of him and Octavia. So I clicked on her profile and she had pictures of him up from his college graduation last month. Monty, it’s so much.”

The full weight of all the beers she’s downed and seeing a picture of the boy she was in love with in high school for the first time in years hits her all at once. She feels like she’s going to be sick, but the line for the bathroom is long and it’s cold out. Instead, she lays her head down on the bar and wills the lightheadedness away.

Monty pats her arm. “Look on the bright side,” he says cheerily. “At least he has a beard now.”

I’d like to sincerely thank the readers, the editorial department, the printing people, everyone who has ever worked on this manga, and my staff.

Including the pre-release preparation period, I’ve been drawing Tokyo Ghoul non-stop for seven years, from June 2011 to June 2018. It’s a poor work by an inexperienced author, but I’m proud to have finished it.

Although for the past half a year I’ve been writing with this sinking feeling of “It’s going to end”, now that it’s time for it to actually end, I’m suddenly feeling like I dropped my food.

I’ve been a… big nuisance to both the editorial department and the printing office, so I’d like to thank them for working with my many unreasonable requests. Things were often challenging, but I’ll use that experience to learn from and grow. 

My deepest thanks to my editor. He’s become a… buffer? Between me and the outside world. It’s his fault that I’ve become like this, but it’s also thanks to him that I’ve become like this. I think he is the person who made Ishida Sui. Was it 10, 11 years? Thanks for all these years. I feel like is a lot I should apologize for. 

To all the authors published in the same magazine as I, all of you inspired me daily. Thank you. Especially to Hara-sensei, my original teacher and the author of “Kingdom”, you really made an enormous impact on my life. I will be taking my leave earlier than you, but I will support everyone who’s still being published.

Thank you to my staff, who always accomodated my crazy schedule and accompanied me when I wanted to hang out. You are all good kids, I hope you have a good life. I know I’ve inconvenienced you a lot, but I’ll pay you, so please forgive me. Please wait a while longer for the last month’s salary to be paid. And next time don’t forget to bring receipts for expense reimbursement, please. 

I’m grateful to have received feedback from the readers, too. I’ve read all of your letters. On the characters’ birthdays… no, even on the days with no significance at all, I kept getting presents throughout the year, and that made me very happy. Even if you just read the manga in the store without buying, I’m still grateful. Thank you all very much for supporting me.

I was bored yesterday, so I was just doodling and somehow managed to fill up an entire 31-page B4 notebook. (I mean, I did have some things to do…)

What do authors do after finishing their manga…? I guess I’d like to just draw whatever I want for a while.
