So this is the tattoo I got a few weeks ago. I heard through a friend that a girl, who is extremely negative all the time and irrelevant to my life anyway, has been making horrible comments about the “fucking tattoo” that I got and how it’s “ugly” and I “ruined my body”. I think, not only is that terribly misinformed and judgemental, it’s downright wrong. I didn’t ruin my body at all. I joined myself to a piece of artwork that speaks measures to me. I became that art. For those who don’t know, this is the first drawing that the pilot drew in the book Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince, there are English translations if you can’t read French!) and he goes around asking the adults if this drawing scares them. “Why would I be scared of a hat?” They all respond. The pilot is confused, and doesn’t understand why none of the adults can see that his picture is clearly a serpent that has swallowed an elephant whole. The point of it is that adults lose their imagination when they lose their childhood, and that they no longer look for the deeper meanings in what is plainly in front of them. It is about staying true to the child that taught you how to believe in the extraordinary. So no, I did not ruin my body. I made it something more extraordinary than it already is.
