1840 Farm

It's such a gorgeous day here that we're soaking up every minute of it in the back yard. While Penny Lane inspects every inch of the yard, I am drinking a lavender hibiscus iced tea and writing up a few new recipes (including lavender syrup and this delicious iced tea). This is my kind of afternoon!

After a day of working in the studio and working on a few spring projects in the farmhouse, I needed something easy and delicious for dinner tonight. Thankfully, it is the height of egg season, so I made open faced egg sandwiches with English muffins, a party of homemade Italian sausage, smoked cheddar, our fresh duck eggs, and a drizzle of barbecue sauce for good measure. I love egg season when a delicious meal can be on the table in minutes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's really no wonder we keep chickens and ducks! What's for dinner at your house?

Remember when I promised that I had pink and purple pillows to add to the mix? Well, a promise is a promise. Here's a second peek at what's coming to our shop. I hope that you love these farmhouse style pillows made from repurposed dress shirts. They're dressed up in their Sunday best and will be ready to bring a dash of color and comfort to your home. I just love every single one of them!

Bucatini All'Amatriciana was on our dinner plates tonight. The sauce was made from heirloom cherry tomatoes frozen from last year's garden. Every bite was a reminder of how delicious homegrown tomatoes are. I can't wait until we have tomato plants in the ground in this year's garden. What's for dinner at your house?

Happy Easter! I am planning to enjoy this gorgeous day and fill it with a few of our favorite Easter recipes. I am taking the day off from sewing and writing to relax and enjoy the day. It's shaping up to be a warm, sunny day and I plan to make the most of it. I hope that you will do the same! There was only one logical thing to do after publishing my recipe for Old Fashioned Pound Cake this morning: publish the recipe for Creamy Lemon Curd to go with it!

I hope that you've saved room in your weekend plans for my Old Fashioned Pound Cake. I just added this recipe to our blog so that you could bake one to share with friends and family. This recipe has an interesting history and is a delicious way to celebrate spring's bounty of fresh eggs. Now I'm off to write up the recipe for lemon curd so that you can serve a dollop of it on top of beautiful slices of pound cake. Stay tuned for that recipe later this morning. Watching this whimsical combination of fabrics spin around at the sewing machine was a lovely way to spend my morning. This Small Table Basket is destined for our shop. I can't wait to send it on its way to a new home so that it can bring a dash of color to someone's home!

After a long walk and a bath, someone is looking very sleepy tonight.

It's such a beautiful day outside, that we're grilling local sausages to pair with leftovers from last night. These Neeps and Tatties with Wild Ramps will be even more delicious tonight. I love this rustic Scottish dish of turnips (neeps) and potatoes (tatties) mashed together with cream and butter. This time of year, I love to add wild ramps to give them a subtle onion/garlic flavor. What's for dinner at your house?

Mother Nature is treating us to a glorious day with temperatures in the 70s and bright sunshine. I know better than to start planting pretty flowers outside. We'll still have cool nights and seasonal daytime temps in the 40s. Instead, you can count on me to have a few pots of colorful pansies inside the farmhouse. They'll add a touch of spring's whimsy and color to our days and help pass the time until we can plant in the gardens outside. This little one is going to brighten up my view from the sewing machine. Thanks to a little chicken bowl, it will put a smile on my face ever time I see it in the studio.

I love packing up our Mason Jar Heirloom Flower Gardens to send on their way to our customers. There's something so lovely about the prospect of growing these beautiful flowers together this year and enjoying the pretty blooms in our gardens and homes all summer long!
