`salem’s lot/corpse demon inspired thriller slash slow burn horror hamilton musical au where:
- once-prolific now-uninspired true crime writer who moves into the sleepy town temporarily for his next project
- became an investigative reporter after his high school sweetheart (laurens) was killed by a stray bullet and the gunman was never found
- found a following when he published his first true crime book at 22 years old
- received a lot of flak after his latest novel’s theories affected public opinion on a case and when proven wrong disgraced him (inspired by sinister 2012)
- just wants to redeem himself with another good book
- drawn to the sleepy town because of an unsolved murder/death that happened there decades ago in which a man burned to death in a field and people saw something burning but no one approached the body due to superstitious belief (note: ok but this actually happened near my hometown)
- has tattoos and smokes because i say so
- has worked in the city as a private investigator before and has a master’s in forensic anthropology (which hamilton will ceaselessly hound him for)
- BUT moved back into the sleepy town a few years back because he simps for james who works as a doctor in sleepy town (for free)
- reads true crime novels, has read hamilton’s works and dislikes hamilton for misleading a case in his last book
- unlike james whose work is actually eventful he realizes that he’s very unfulfilled and plans to go back to the city soon as he makes arrangements
- plans interrupted when someone moves into an abandoned house in the outskirts of town and things get more interesting when local pastor disappears and people start mysteriously dying
- unrelated but probably has an oral fixation or something
