When New York City was founded at the dawn of the modern age, London and Paris was already 1500 years old. Rome and Beijing 2000, Jerusalem 4000. And yet somehow in the centuries to come, the tiny colony at the edge of the world would rise to become the greatest city on Earth. The undisputed cultural and economic capital of the world and the supreme laboratory of modern life.

In 1609, under the flag of the Dutch East India Company, Captain Henry Hudson & his crew sailed into New York Bay & up the river that would one day bear his name. Beginning as a mission to find the fabled Northwest Passage, an alternative trade route to China, they instead found fertile land, amicable people, and a massive beaver population which, as a result, provided the potential for a profitable fur trade on the East Coast of the New World. This success in failure led to the development of a permanent Dutch settlement in 1624 on what is now known as Governors Island. That settlement would eventually give rise to the city of New York.

Inspired by Henry Hudson, & the explorers & settlers before & after him, our goal at 1624 is to honor this history & tell the story of this city through quality articles of clothing that blend the past with the present & commemorate the events that made New York City what it is today.
