‘Ferris, you’re pretty good. I know, you know. You’ve got what the big timers call chops. How do I know? I’ve seen you chopping.’ 

Nick is one of the cool teachers that asks you to call them by their first name and can be found smoking behind the school almost every day of the week. 

it is a well known rule that ferris doesn’t speak to the teaching staff of north glennbrook high school after hours, but nick is the one well liked exception.

   “Can you like - maybe not say my baby pictures are ‘cursed images’?” Maika’s bedroom door is open. (She is not allowed have boys over with the door closed.) She’s waiting for him in the doorway, but running commentary on every photo lining up the stairs is slowing Ferris down, and he is having way, way too much fun with it. She shakes him by the shoulder. “I was five, okay. I was doing my best.”

‘ hey, i never called them bad, they’re just cursed. big difference. in my opinion, the latter is a lot more flattering, it takes effort and comedic timing. your five your old self was really onto something. ’

in an idyllic world he’d never have to answer to such things, committing to a life where he fits unanimously as the little spoon in both cameron and sloane’s arms. as much as he is living his own rose tinted 8th grade fantasy, ceding to being the big spoon for connivence is a fact of the same reality.

it’s a question that ferris has been asking himself of cam for what feels like centuries. the answer, of course, is long elusive. if he knew the secret to giving cameron frye a genuinely good time, do you think he’d just be draped here across the couch ? of course not. he’d be up and out dancing, perhaps feeling like one of the most accomplished minds in the world.
