Protection/Warding Black Salt
Not to be confused with volcanic salt/Himalayan black salt/kala namak. Black salt has strong protective properties, especially when combined with other protective/uncrossing herbs (herbs meant to undo a curse or hex). Itâs used to absorb negative energy, create wards, and undo curses. Itâs also good for banishing and binding. Hereâs my recipe:Â
What youâll need:Â
Cleansing items, such as palo santo, sage, bells, spray, whichever you personally use.Â
Sea SaltÂ
Charcoal Disk (or charcoal powder)Â
Black Candle
RosemaryÂ
Garlic Powder
Chili PowderÂ
Crushed Red Pepper FlakesÂ
PaprikaÂ
Black PepperÂ
Black CandleÂ
BowlÂ
Mortar & PestleÂ
Black stones/crystalsÂ
Any additional protective items you may have. (Here I gathered dried red peppers, dried chili peppers, lemon, sage, and ashed from a Litha bonfire.) These items are for You to draw some extra energy from, and wonât be directly added to the salt.
Frankincense and/or Dragonâs Blood incense.Â
Instructions:Â
First, cleanse your space using whatever best works for you.Â
After cleansing, start your frankincense and/or dragonâs blood incense, this will be going for the duration of the spell.Â
Light your black candle.Â
Gather your supplies as seen in the picture.Â
As always, make sure your intention is strong, and continuously draw from it. Return to your intent no matter how often your mind wanders (which it will, thatâs ok).Â
In a bowl, mix the salt with the herbs first.Â
Remember your other protective items are there for you to use. If needed, refocus on their protective energies and draw from that.Â
Use a mortar and pestle to crush the charcoal disk separately. This takes a lot of physical energy, and it is very messy. If you prefer to use charcoal powder, thatâs ok, though charcoal disks will be cheaper. I like charcoal disks because I feel more energetically involved in/connected to the process.Â
Mixing counterclockwise, mix the very finely crushed charcoal into the salt. Mix. Use as many charcoal disks needed to get to the level of darkness you want.Â
Mind wandering? Remember your intent! Refocus!Â
When youâre done, transfer the black salt into a jar and set the crystals around it in a circle. Let it continue to build and charge this way, until you feel it is ready. If youâre not sure, it can also be until the candle or incense goes out.Â
Done! Sprinkle this around the parameter of your wards, such as along doorways and windows. It can also be used during unhexing/curse breaking spells, general protection spells, banishing, and binding.Â
This is NOT FOR CONSUMPTION.Â
Even if you used edible activated charcoal, know that 1. charcoal interacts with many medications by basically absorbing them and rendering them useless, including birth control, diabetes medications, cancer drugs, and more. and 2. Iâm not sure this would taste great?Â
Mind the warnings!!!!!
Shout out to my fellow witches/ wiccans/ pagans with eating disorders. It can be really difficult to enjoy the holidays when theyâre so focussed around food. As someone who mainly does kitchen magic itâs hard not being able to do all the spells and eat all the seasonal food I want.
Blessed solstice, and take care of yourselves babes!
You matter to me more than youâll ever feel. đ

Leonardo DiCaprio wanted to adopt six children, so he went to the local orphanage. The orphanage only had five though, so they brought out the kids one by one. Someone working there grabbed a mini pumpkin and carved a smiley face on it and tried to tell him it was a kid but he said, âThis, sir, is a pumpkin and I do not want it.â And then he put down the pumpkin and left with his five new children. They all became famous.

Easy Ways to Celebrate Ostara
Ostara begins tomorrow, and could possibly be one of my FAVORITE holidays. In traditional Wicca, Ostara celebrates the union between the Lord and the Maiden Goddess. It is a time of love, youthfulness, union, partnerships, and conception. Personally, I enjoy focusing Ostara more on the Maiden Goddess and witchcraft that revolves around self-care, love, and beauty.
Outside of traditional Wicca, Ostara should be a focus on self-love, sharing love, and beauty. Focus on making yourself feel beautiful, inside and out. Focus on sharing love with everyone you care about.
Hereâs a pretty simple list of ideas for how to celebrate Ostara without any big, huge rituals:
Wear pastels or florals or lace to celebrate spring and youthfulness
Buy yourself some seeds and start planting if the weather permits
Go bird watching/listening
Do your makeup or dress up even if you have nowhere to go
Spa day. Treat yoâself, witches.
Do some spring cleaning and get rid of the clutters of winter
Bubble baths are honestly holy af, bonus points if you throw in some magic
Spend a day in the sun, if the weather permits
Buy a bouquet of flowers
Dance under the stars
Get a beauty/glamor spell going for you
Share some love with your partners, share some love with your friends, share some love with your family, share some love with your pets, share some love with your people, share some love with your plants. SHARE. SOME. LOVE.
Do something nice for someone else. Plan a service project or something. Be as beautiful inside as you are out.
Spend a few minutes writing a personal, individual message to the people you care about. Let them know how much you love them.
MAKE. YOURSELF. FEEL. BEAUTIFUL. Whether that be throwing on a puffy dress, going all out on your makeup, not wearing any makeup at all, etc. Do whatever makes you feel beautiful (without tearing anyone else down).
This is the best time to improve on your relationships, improve on your self-confidence, and to come back to life after the dead of winter. Take some time for yourself and for your loved ones.
Blessed be, you lovely badasses!

What Native people say about the use of sage: you can use sage, but you cannot smudge as nothing you are doing (waving sage around) is actually smudging. Smudging is a ceremony and you are, we promise, not smudging. Please buy sage from either us, or someone who sources the sage from us. White sage may not be considered endangered by the US government but corperate sourcing is making it difficult for us to source sage for our own religious purposes. Let alone to sell it.
What white people hear: never use sage ever, donât ever buy it, donât own it, donât even look at it.
Look, yâall. Thereâs a couple of facets to my talk today.
1) Yes! You can buy sage! You really, truly can! Buy it from either native sellers (go to a powwow! Eat our food, buy our stuff, watch some dancing!) Or buy it from a seller who sources the sage from native people. Pick one. And no, buying it from 5 Below doesnât count.
2) you CANNOT smudge. This isnât just you âshouldnâtââ this is a YOU ARE INCAPABLE OF SMUDGING. Waving a sage stick around your doorways IS NOT SMUDGING. It is smoke clensing. Smudging, depending on the tradition and tribe, could easily have dancing and drums involved. You, as a white person, do not have the cultural BACKGROUND to even know how it works. At all. Period.
3) please, for FUCKS SAKE, stop making posts here on tumblr where you tell other white people about cultural appropriation and what they can and cannot do. Please stop, your license has been revoked because none of you bother to get the facts right. We native people are FULLY CAPABLE OF DOING IT OURSELVES. Consider instead: a) reblogging our posts where we talk about it! Weâre here! We have made posts!! b) Making a post that states what we said and then LINKS BACK TO US. Screenshot with a link if you must. Stop centering your own voices in these conversations. You are already centered in everything, stop centering yourselves in a native space.
Iâm tired of this nonsense, yâall.

This is just a reminder for everyone, because I keep seeing this come up:
If you are not of Native blood, you do not have a spirit animal. Native American religions are closed to outsiders, and the term spirit animal is NOT interchangeable with other terms. You may have a familiar, or a patronus, but you do not have a spirit animal.
Please do not use Native terminology or beliefs if you are not of Native blood. This goes triply for sales - it is actually illegal to sell things described or tagged as âNative Americanâ âIndianâ or any Native groupâs name (Cherokee, Nahuatl, ect.) if you are not a recognized member of one of those groups.
