It took me a long time to realize this, but with the help of my real friends. I cannot suggest enough how important it is to cut out people who intoxicate your happiness. The second this happened it has been so much easier. More friends have come out and my smiles are becoming more genuine and real. You don't NEED anyone in your life. If there is someone there who make you feel bad about yourself, or makes you down, cut. them. out. If they consume you in depression and don't make an effort to make it better, Cut them out. It's good to worry about yourself but when someone is too self centered to give a shit about other people's feelings because they are so focused on their own its toxic. They will make you feel like shit and feel like a horrible person. But you do what makes you happy. Because when you are constantly there for people who don't show they care about you back, you'll get treated like trash. They will use you to make themselves feel better, then once they are happy, you're useless to them. Fucking useless. Then they come back as soon as they need something Your feelings matter and they are important. Don't let toxic people ruin that precious smile :)
