("In this sorrow world, what lasts forever?")
The plot is real tragic. Obi-Wan came from a noble samurai family and was the right-hand man of Damiyo Qui-Gon Jinn. Anakin, although having a humble origins (illegitimate child of a Japanese country woman and an unknown English missionary - merchant), was favored by the Damiyo due to his military talent, and sent to Obi-Wan to train.
Obi-Wan hadn't liked the boy at first. But as the years passed, his feelings toward Anakin changed gradually. It grew into deep affection and eventually into romantic feelings he knew he should never act upon. Anakin had become, without question, the most beautiful man in the land. Admirers came from across Japan, and even foreign merchants sought his hand in marriage. He turned away nearly every suitor until he met a French lady named PadmΓ©. She captured his heart completely, and Anakin fell hopelessly in love with her.
Obi-Wan watched it all with jealousy and heartache. He cursed himself for being such a coward, for never finding the courage to confess what he felt. Yet he could not bear the thought of burdening Anakin with emotions that could only cause pain. Wanting nothing more than for his beloved former apprentice to be happy, Obi-Wan buried his feelings deep within his heart and carried his sorrow in secret.
The peace did not last. Qui-Gon was assassinated, marking the beginning of the Jinn family's downfall. As a Fudai Daimyo (θ代倧ε), Qui-Gon had been a loyal vassal of the Tokugawa shogunate. However, after his death, the shogunate stripped the Jinn clan of much of its authority, reducing their political influence, weakening their domain, and plunging the family into economic hardship. The injustice bred deep resentment.
In response, Obi-Wan and the remaining members of the Jinn family abandoned their loyalty to the shogunate and embraced the ideals of the Sonno joi (ε°ηζε€·) movement. Obi-Wan became one of the Shishi (εΏε£«), openly condemned the Tokugawa regime and advocated the restoration of imperial rule, believing it to be both the moral path and the only way to resist growing Western influence.
Following Qui-Gon's death, his youngest son was summoned home from Edo to inherit the domain. Yet Anakin did not share this new convictions. Fiercely loyal to the shogunate, he believed that only the Tokugawa government could preserve order and stability. Encouraged by a neighboring daimyo who supported the shogunate, Anakin resolved to seize control of the clan by eliminating the rightful heir. Obi-Wan discovered the plan and confronted him, hoping to stop the bloodshed. Yet, he failed. Anakin murdered the heir, and the neighboring daimyo's army poured into the Jinn domain. As battle engulfed the land, flames consumed the clan's estate, reducing generations of history to ashes.
Heartbroken, Obi-Wan found himself unable to kill the boy he loved. Instead, he abandoned the battlefield and rushed to find PadmΓ© - Anakin's secret wife. He arrived too late. Gravely wounded, she had succumbed to blood loss. With no one left to protect the newborn children, Obi-Wan gathered them and fled the burning land, leaving behind the ruins of the Jinn family and the life he had once known.
Anakin weakly survived with total body deformity from burns, lost one arm and leg. After being rescued, he was consumed by hatred and sought revenge against his former master...
