Zutara Month Day 7: Dawn and Dusk

When I saw the “dawn and dusk” prompt, an image immediately flashed to mind (”it’s going to be Zuko and Katara dancing in these fancy robes with Japanese style dusk and dawn scenes on them and it’s going to be kind of watercolor-y”, and like… thanks brain, I don’t know how to do any of that). I haven’t drawn/ painted in this style before, so I had to do a lot of experimenting. It was fun, but definitely a learning experience! As is frequently the case with ~art~, there are things I would change, but while it may not be 100% finished in my mind, I am done with it emotionally so it is what it is! ♥

thanks for the tag, @foxy-knowledgeseeker :) i only came back to writing fanfic in november 2020 after 11 years of not writing any. just because it's interesting i'll include the ones from my old fanfics as well, although almost all of them are terrible, problematic and i genuinely dislike them. won't be linking to those ones since i don't want anyone to read them x_x.

1. fabric of your flesh: The firestorm rains chaos onto the caldera with stunning force.

2. after the flame, a pause: As the sun dipped below the caldera's rim, Zuko restored some semblance of order to his office.

3. paper flowers: In the eight years since Ozai's defeat, the Earth King has grown to be a capable monarch, but by no means a conventional one.

4. ba sing se - secrets of the seige: Raucous cheers tore through the air; a messy mixture of cat calls, wolf whistles and glasses banging against wood.

5. the pyromaniac in me: I could feel the beat of the taiko drums thrumming through the air, the rhythmic sound making me open my eyes and look up.

6. kindle my desire: "Toph, would you help me with this?" Zuko said to the earthbender who was leaning against the wall across from him.

7. no rest for the wicked: Her lips were hot on mine, her tongnue darting in and out of my mouth; biting, licking, sucking, nipping.

8. once upon a play: Aang's grey eyes silently followed the slow and circular movements of the fan.

9. on the sands of time: Aang quietly trudged home from school, gravel crunching underfoot with each step and sweat springing onto his forehead with each passing second.

10. inconveniences: "Gyatso! You're back." Aang said, bounding out of the kitchen as he heard the front door slam shut.

patterns? my writing has improved lmao, and also wow, bad punctuation galore. but just in general for my recent works, i'd say they're mostly short and very in line with the tone of the piece that follows, but overall, nothing too flashy or punchy. 1 is a bit abstract and wordy, 2 is quick scene-setting and 3 is an intro to a borderline comic scene so starts off light.

and for 4-10, i'd say i really liked semi-colons and commas? and didn't know how to punctuate dialogue lmao. and i have improved a lot since then whew.

Toph: Yeah...well the other half ship you with Katara so it’s not all bad.

Zuko:

Zuko: I ship myself with Katara, Toph.
