It’s interesting to note the recurrence of “You” in the titles of Liam and Zayn’s recent songs : “You” for Liam and “It’s you” for Zayn. They always look at each other during the “You and I” part of the song (and often at the “It’s you” in Little things).

I think the ring means something.

Some think that Zayn and Liam were already engaged because Zayn wore a black ring on his ring finger in late 2013.  He also got a mehndi tattoo then, which he had extended in late 2014; mehndi are traditionally used in Pakistani, Indian, South Asian, etc. weddings.

Liam does not wear rings or jewelry, except watches.  For him to wear this ring on his ring finger is unusual.  That he is wearing it on his right hand is interesting, because:

A ring on the left hand would be too obvious, and Zayn and Liam still must hide their relationship.  A ring on the right hand is less conspicuous.

Some gay couples wear their rings on their right hand, sometimes in protest against marriage inequality.  [EDIT: Fixed link.]

Liam might be wearing it on his right hand in accordance with Muslim tradition:

Personally, I think it is more likely to mark engagement than marriage.  If Zayn and Liam got legally married they would have to do so somewhere where their public records would be sealed, e.g. California.  If they got married in the UK or even Ireland, their marriage license would be public record, and we know how nosy this fandom is.

Also, I imagine they would want Harry, Louis and Niall at their wedding (my OT5 heart is bursting, Anonymous—why did you ask me this question?!) but they went hardcore stunting all week while Zayn and Liam were ghost—one of the several reasons that folks think this ring means something.
