Racing game development log - Day 52:
Hiatus over, started working on a menu for saving and loading replays
Currently, I have most of the rendering part of the menu sorted out, aside from the ∞ in Figure ∞ Stadium not rendering.
I don't have the saving part yet (the files shown here were renamed), but I will work on that tomorrow.

Still on hiatus, this is my first project on this scale, so I don't really know what I'm doing.

No progress again today, sorry, still taking a bit of a break, although probably not too wise to do such just weeks before the release of the first public demo.

Ok, I didn't do much today, but I recorded four demos to be used for the time trials mode when the demo releases (which should be June 13).
Progress is going a bit slow for now, but just wait until I get my motivation back.
Racing game development log - Day 45:
I just wrote 3 lines of code [29, 30 and 86 bytes respectively] which made the demo automatically play when it loads, instead of requiring a button to be pressed.

I added the loading of saved replays, and fixed a glitch where two inputs on the same frame would be skipped during replays.

Sorry, no progress today, I had a lot going on and couldn't find the time to code. Also, I lost my laptop charger so I have to conserve battery until it's back.
Racing game development log - Day 40:
Well, I did it, I made demo files save to the computer, with a very small file size.
Here is the demo file in a hex editor, the first three bytes keep track of file version, vehicle and track used, with the rest of the file storing actual ghost data.
Specifically, I store the frame of each input as a 16-bit unsigned int, and store the specific input as a specific ASCII character.
Tomorrow, I am going to attempt to load this demo file.

Racing game development log - Day 38:
Switching focus for a bit, I started working on a replay system, keeping track of the players inputs.
I intend to use this for a time trials mode, as well as using it for another rework of the CPU movement system (THIS WILL BE THE FOURTH ATTEMPT).

Still didn't get much progress done, tried making the CPUs players crash into walls less, but I couldn't figure out where I went wrong.
I wrote the code, it works-ish, best not to touch it until I become a better programmer, right?
