Wabi-sabi (n.) is a concept, an aesthetic, and a worldview that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of Life and accepting peacefully the cycle of growth and decay. In Zen there are seven aesthetic principles for achieving Wabi-sabi: Fukinsei (asymmetry, irregularity); Kanso (simplicity); Koko (basic, weathered); Shizen (without pretense, natural); Yugen (subtly profound grace, not obvious); Datsuzoku (unbounded by convention, free); Seijaku (tranquility). The state of Wabi-sabi nurtures all that is authentic by acknowledging three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

The Buddha taught us something very important. We cannot wake a sleeper who is unready to awake nor can we prevent the awakening of one who is ready. Such things are not within our power or purview. We can guide others. We can nudge and nurture.
