"i can't keep up with all the couples and dramas of the upper east side. it all happens so quickly. by the time i hear about what is happening i'm already three news cycles behind" that what she got for picking a career that keeps her constantly busy and away from her phone "i knew the bar would likely be busy but i wasn't aware an event was on. the queues are relentless in here tonight." zara laughed at the medical drama comparison "i hate to break it to you, it's nothing like it. everyone is stressed, there's no hair and make up touch ups and there's no patrick dempsey. there is a hot surgeon that has earned the nickname mcdreamy by the nurses station though"

"you need to watch more movies, man," tessa said, shaking her head. the absolute lack of references that zara got was painful. "yeah... not twelve, that's my story. thanks, zar. i'm sure it'll be a night to basically remember and a costume to regret peeling off later. right, sorry. is emmeline here yet?" tessa didn't want to ditch her sister now she'd spotted them but she was bringing down her vibe a little.

"i'll try to find some time to do that. do you have any recommendations?" it could at least be a bonding moment for the sisters if she was recommended films by tessa. "you got it. peeling off a costume at the end of the night sounds like you would've at least had a great night out. i've not seen her around but she shouldn't be long. you don't need to hang around here, you can do be with your friends"

"that's me," he laughed. man, it had been a minute since he'd thought of himself as 'rose's ex'. "i'm awesome, thank you! i'm just here with my friend-," sister-in-law... limbo-in-law... "sapphire. i swear, she's around here somewhere but i think she might be taking the long way around back here. for me, it's any excuse to pull out the superman costume. oh, shoot. right, you're actually a doctor and these are your... doctorly garments. i've got it."

"i haven't see many of tessa's friends in a long while. i remember you all by association, sorry if that's awkward" he was rose's ex, but maybe bringing it up that way wasn't the best. "she's probably got caught up chatting to someone she knows or is stuck waiting to be served at the bar. it's a nightmare to get served in this place" they had waited at least fifteen minutes to get to the front of the queue. zara laughed at the description "i can't say i've heard them described as doctorly garments, but i like it. it feels real glamours for an unglamorous job"

"oh. well, i'm sure no one'll notice. at a glance, you could totally be a claire temple or a christine palmer. a doctor... strange-," or doom depending on the vibe. "me? a couple of hours. some friends invited me and i, um, do that kinda thing now so. are you dancing or drinking... or whatever?"

"i don't know who either of those people are but sure, i'll run with that" if it would get people to stop asking her why she was in scrubs then she'd day she was some sort of fictional doctor. "right, yeah, i forget you're not twelve anymore. i hope you and your friends are having a good time. uh, im here mainly a few drinks, it was a rough shift and i came to have a catch up with emmeline since we keep missing one another in the apartment"

emmeline had gatecrashed tonight after getting into a heated argument with lucille's florist. read: she really needed a drink. the dirtier the better and the bar on 6th always knew how to do that. she was just stealing a pair of abandoned cat ears to blend in when she noticed zara. well, zara's scrubs followed by the rest of them.

zara's whole face lit up when emmeline came onto the scene to rescue them "ohmygod, thank you. i didn't know how to leave the conversation" she laughed, looping her arm with her friend "the feeling is very much mutual. are you still fighting with that florist? that's absurd, that florist is a demonic presence. ummm i don't know what you want to hear, i've been at work. though word on the street is that two of the interns are hooking up, yet to be confirmed"

jesse was pretty sure that sapphire was not going to 'be right back' anytime soon. he let out a sigh, shaking his head as he leaned against the bar and looked out into the crowd. he wasn't complaining, of course. any excuse to pull out the superman costume was good with him. it was then he thought he saw tessa, leaning forward and almost shouting her name but... was that tessa?

she jumped at the sudden arrival of a random guy, not expecting anyone but emmeline to talk to her. they wracked their brain for a moment and the lightbulb moment came "oh, right! tessa's friends...rose's ex...hi, how are you?" they asked in hope that he would stop rambling the whole friendship tree "uh...thanks? i'll be honest, i just came from work and didn't know it was a costume thing"

tessa was having an absolute freakin' ball at this thing. she was dressed head to toe as jean grey from x-men, including the red wig and spandex. the costume was surprisingly forgiving though and she was able to dance up a fruity cocktail assisted storm. she would have kept on grooving too, thank you very much, but then she saw them. only, it couldn't have been them. what the hell was zara doing here?

she was instantly regretting coming along to the bar after work. turning around to the sound of yelling, she spotted tessa and weaved their way through the crowd to see her "hi, no i'm meeting emmeline here. i just finished work, i didn't know it was a costume thing. how long have you been here?"
