Background: The story is inspired by The Cave of Two Lovers in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Book Two: Earth, Chapter 2. According to legend, the cave was the meeting place of two star-crossed lovers whose villages were enemies. The lovers learned earthbending from badger moles, becoming the first earthbenders. They met secretly by creating a labyrinth that would forever trap anyone who tried to follow them, unless those who entered the cave trusted in love. In the cave were statues of the lovers kissing with an inscription that read: “Love is brightest in the dark.”
