Have Larries never considered the fact that Louis isn’t at Pride because he doesn’t want to be? Or he feels like people would take it as a sign when it’s not? But I guess that would mean accepting Louis as he actually is, and being angry at him rather than ‘1DHQ.’

I’ve thought about this a lot in the last few days. It started with the posts about Louis “not being allowed to post anything” about the Orlando shooting (despite Harry and Liam both making Instagram posts showing their support for the victims, their loved ones, and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole). Those posts made me angry, but I was angry about a lot of things, and I wasn’t prepared to articulate my thoughts until now. As a queer person, I obviously want my favorite artists to support LGBTQIAP+ people. I want them to believe in marriage equality, I want them to support comprehensive health care and legal protection for trans people, I want them to care about the high rates of suicide, depression, and substance abuse within the LGBTQ+ community, I want them to worry about queer kids being bullied at school. Basically, I want my favorite artists to actively give a shit about LGBTQ+ people. And sometimes they don’t. I’m not saying that I think Louis is homophobic. If asked, I think he would absolutely say he loves and appreciates his LGBTQ+ fans just the same as his straight fans. But that doesn’t make him an activist. Saying “yeah, gay people are pretty cool, no one should hate them” is like, the fucking bare minimum of decency, and I’m not handing out cookies for that. I have never heard or read an interview in which Louis seems invested in vocalizing his support for LGBTQ+ people. I have never heard him vocally support his LGBTQ+ fans at a concert, like Harry has. I have never seen him do a full interview and photo spread for a gay periodical, like Liam has. To my knowledge, he has not chosen to attend any of the pride events now in a show of support for the Orlando victims, as his girlfriend Danielle has (and as many people have criticized her for). It would be so incredible to see another member of one of my favorite bands be publicly supportive of LGBTQ+ people. That would mean so much to me. But it’s not happening, and I don’t think it’s going to happen in the future, and I’m so, so, so sick of people (which is to say some, though not all Larries) celebrating Louis’ LGBTQ+ activism, when Louis’ LGBTQ+ activism doesn’t exist. He’s not an activist. What has he even done that people could consider active support of his queer fans? A few t-shirts for specific brands, which some people have decided must be a symbol of his never-vocalized love for LGBTQ+ people? Support of queer people is literally just not a priority for him, and people need to stop pretending like it is. And the default response to this is always, “He’s under Modest/Syco/Simon’s control! He’s under contract! He can’t say anything!” He can. If he wants to, he can. He just doesn’t consider it a priority. That’s something his fans need to accept about him, no matter how much some of us might wish otherwise.
